Agent Scully in X-Files - Pamela Anderson....

Indiana Jones - Tom Selleck..

Apparently Sean Connery turned down Gandalf in the original trilogy. And Burt Reynolds turned down Hans Solo!

Any of you seen the stills of Eric Stolz as Marty McFly? He was sacked as opposed to turning it down but it looks weird!

If you see a successful Richard Gere movie from the 80s chances are John Travolta turned it down !!

Must make a confession though......I did stay to watch at least 30 minutes of Battlefield Earth !!

I wonder how much they actually filmed?

Poor old Stoltz..............Guess he'll be remembered for The Fly 2 which bombed.......and Memphis Belle...........Saw him scraping the barrel in a bit part in Anaconda too.........

Stuart Townsend was removed from the role of Aragorn in the LOTR trilogy having filmed for 4 days because he looked too young. Sometimes having a baby face doesn't help!

He was also going to be given a portion of the profits: 15% netting him $400 million. He turned it down because he didn't understand the books. (I imagine most of the cast didn't.)

He then also turned down The Matrix where he was going to play Morpheus, again because he didn't understand it.

This led him to accept The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen so as to not make the same mistake, it was obviously a disaster so he retired. 

Reportedly, he was also offered Dumbledore, John Hammond and Austin Powers' dad!

I saw an interview with George Lazenby once, after On Her Majesty’s Secret Service the Bond team offered him a long term contract to do the next few films. His agent told him to play hardball and either ignore the offer for a while or ask for more. He did this and rather than them coming back with an increased offer they gave the job to Roger Moore who did about the next seven. Some terrible advice for poor George.

Anyone out of Friends trying to convince the world they were "serious" actors....basically all just played themselves in any film they've ever done.

I initially misread that and had convinced myself you were talking about George Formby.

I think Edward Furlong getting arse-faced on set of Terminator 3 was a big mistake. Would have been a good film had they not had a ginger John Connor and female Terminator

He was never on the set. He was cast, but the role was re-cast before filming because of his drug issues. Shame really, as I reckon he'd have been 50 times better than the utter wet lettuce that was Nick "Whine whine whine" Stahl. The film didn't exactly launch Stahl's Hollywood career (apart from Sin City) as he's done mainly B-movies and TV work since...

She wasn't neither her or Reeves were contracted, but she accepted to get money from Fox for another venture she was working on
