Thankgod we're safe, hoping Ashley's comments are geniune about being shocked & not wanting to be in this position again. Hopefully some big investment this summer, although Carver needs removing ASAP.
Also, beating Sunderland in the league is an added bonus.

I'm happy with 13th in the league, seeing as we looked in trouble pre Pulis & we had a decent cup run. James Chester will probably end up at WBA now too.

"Be careful what you wish for" is my favourite comment from people who don't watch West Ham.
Thanks for the 4 years and stability, Sam, you shall be remembered better on paper than on the pitch. Time to move on for all parties.

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
My feelings on Big Sam are well documented.
That said, you can't argue with his record in the PL. While the right manager can take West Ham forward in many different facets, the wrong one can easily see them sliding back to the exit door.
I can't disagree with the decision to move on, but I think that should be acknowledge

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
Thing is, he's a guaranteed mid table finish man, but to go to the next level & challenge the likes of Spurs/Liverpool for fifth or sixth, you need mega investment & WHU won't commit to it or can't attract the better players to take you there. Can see Bilic coming in or whoever & WHU not doing anything dissimilar to this year or what Big Sam could of achieved. To me, it's a separation, just to look at a different type of scenery & it not actually taking the club anywhere of note

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
One only has to look at Stoke to see what West Ham are hoping to achieve, a slight move up the table playing a more expansive brand of football something you don't get with either Big Sam or Pulis. If you're a team battling relegation or looking to secure your long term future in the league then Pulis is the man, he is without doubt the best defensive coach in England but he does not bring entertainment.
If West Ham stick where they are but are more entertaining with a new manager then the fans will be more than happy.

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
Its not about definites, although Bilic is by no means confirmed and Benitez was agreed on both sides until Real came in, its about aspiration. There seems to be a perception in football now that clubs should be happy with their lot. I'd rather finish 16th with some intent to attack than 12th with a dour style of football and a man whose mantra is "respect the point."
If ever there is a time for us to make that move and look to be better then its now. We have a decent squad, we are settled, we have one season in the Boleyn then onto the Olympic Stadium, we have alright investment.
At the end of the day we finished at the bottom of our table. To slide so far down we finished below an appalling Everton and then Crystal Palace after their start just shows he'd lost the plot. There is nothing that suggests we wouldn't have gone more backward than forward under him. The next level for us is to be beating Southampton and Swansea in the table, not getting top 6. Thats the step after. We will have good money available, we have London, the new stadium and decent wages.
Be careful what you wish for makes it seem like fans want him out because we haven't maintained our position from early on. Its not, we want to be entertained, we want intent and we want aspiration. We don't want a team that is lead by someone too committed to Nolan and always desperate for Carroll to be playing.
Bilic can finish lower if he gives it a go and goes about things the right way.

Easy to say now, not as easy to say if you find yourself in a dogfight to beat the drop.
Like I say I don't disagree with moving on, but it is a major risk.

Can we finally close the door on Steve Bruce being some diamond in the rough.
He overachieves with minnows, but has no ability to sustain that or take a team forward.

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
Easily the worst quality league season in a decade
Villa lost 20 games, scored under a goal a game, easily survived in the end.
Newcastle barely won a game since January stay up.
Spurs finish 5th despite being pony
Awfulness all round

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
Agreed. What we need to do is adopt the Spanish league example of splitting 90% of TV money between Man Utd and Arsenal and let the rest of the league have the other 10%...
That way we can get a team to the final of the Champions League every year and then say we have the best league in the world again.
It's a shame Chelsea strolled it but failed so epically in the Champions League. They were extremely worthy champions.

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
Just watching motd back now, united were pretty much uninterested from the first whistle, di maria has absolutely no fight in him at all (an observation from catching the first 20 mins earlier), if we can get half the money back then id sell, if de gea goes we deffo need a new keeper, valdes does not instill confidence, decent shot stopper but his general command of the area is balls (as proven when he punched his captain in the head)
One positive though, the fellaini red. At least that useless lump will be suspended for the beginning of next season. Hope the FA throw the book at him, he may have been a productive member of the team since january, but that speaks more about the standard of the squad than Fellas ability

I'm trying to imagine the look on John's face if Ashley decides to spend serious money, but gives it to Carver.“I still want this job, I love this club but I know this is a big summer. We have to invest, Mike has said that and that is encouraging. I want a summer where I can bring in the players I want. Today has given me more enthusiasm to do what I want to do.”

Re: We Go Again! The Premier League thread
I'd be fuming if Carver stayed on. We've waited eight years or whatever to hear Ashley speak & even though it's only words, at least it's a positive step. Imagine then investing with some serious clout & then giving it all to Carver to throw away. I'd imagine it would be like Brendan Rodgers with cash, but 10x worse. We'd basically be ferrying a boat load of Obertan's in.
I'm still hoping for McClaren or maybe someone else might be interested, given the statement from Ashley.
