SURREY vs NORTHAMPTONSHIRE STEELBACKS ROYAL LONDON CUP
SURREY HAVE NAMED A FOURTEEN MAN SQUAD FOR THE ROYAL LONDON ONE DAY CUP GAME AGAINST THE NORTHAMPTONSHIRE STEELBACKS AT THE KIA OVAL ON MONDAY.
Gary Wilson returns to the squad after playing for Ireland in the recent World T20 Qualifiers.
The Surrey squad to play the Northamptonshire Steelbacks at the Kia Oval in the Royal London One Day Cup on Monday 27th July:
Gareth Batty (capt)
Zafar Ansari
James Burke
Rory Burns
Sam Curran
Tom Curran
Steven Davies
Jade Dernbach
Ben Foakes
Aneesh Kapil
Tim Linley
Jason Roy
Kumar Sangakkara
Gary Wilson
hard to call this if we leave both burke and kapil out we start with with only 5 bowlers will that be too much of a risk?
over to you chaps

Re: SURREY vs NORTHAMPTONSHIRE STEELBACKS ROYAL LONDON CUP
Final side selected:
1.Le Roi
2.Interesting
3.Sanga
4.Wilson (wk)
5.That's All
6.Ansari
7.Burke
8.T Curran
9.Norah (c)
10.Kid Curran
11.Dernbach
Surrey make 343/5 from their 50 overs.
Roy making 108 from 79 balls and Davies falling just short of his century with 99 at a run a ball.
From 189-0 after 24 overs we would have hoped for more. With plenty of bowling in the side I'm definitely still expecting us to defend that total however.

Interesting to see Burke brought into the attack before Tom Curran. His bowling appears to be highly rated which is a good sign given our lack of a seam bowling all rounder with Kapil seemingly concentrating more on his batting.

Strange match so far - magnificent start by Surrey which then progressively petered out through the middle overs until there was a bit of a boost in the last few overs. Then Northants start with an almighty collapse. Duckett has now gone onto the attack, but hopefully the last two wickets will fall without too much further delay.

Re: SURREY vs NORTHAMPTONSHIRE STEELBACKS ROYAL LONDON CUP

As Olly alluded to earlier I expect pressure could start to mount on Wilson unless he starts to get some scores soon. His record in one day cricket is far from spectacular and with Foakes showing some good skills with the gloves and Burns waiting in the wings he could be looking over his shoulder very soon.
Solanki and Kapil are making runs for the second XI as well so competition should be strong for this one day cup.

excellent win as said earlier we should have scored more runs but the middle order struggled to score off the spinners it's something we need to work on when the top 3 fail

If this group ultimately gets decided on run rate, yesterday should help.

...but not quite as much as this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/shared/fds/hi/statistics/cricket/scorecards/2007/4/13606/html/scorecard.stm
Interesting to see one M R Ramprakash selected that day, apparently as a specialist fielder: did not bat, did not bowl, two catches.

Ah James Benning and Ali Brown. What an entertaining and explosively effective opening partnership they were in the one day game. Trailblazers for the modern ODI tactics one might claim.
