Cotto vs Canelo is official.

Only one winner for me at this stage. Canelo too strong,too big and got youth on his side.

Canelo vs GGG next May or June.

He's bringing kids into the ring? Canelo starts favourite but I'll go with Cotto.

Well he's younger, fresher, stronger, bigger. I'm just not sure he's that bright and Cotto has a veteran's brain.

Cotto's brain will go out the window the moment he gets tagged just like it does every time, he looks good when everything is going his way but wilts under pressure.

Agree Hammer. He has looked good but been well matched. Canelo is getting him at the right time.

Cotto is class but I feel this will be too much for him. Hopefully the winner vs GGG.

50/50 fight, Canelo is the younger and the stronger but Cotto is the better fighter and the smarter fighter

Whilst I agree If you're a middleweight champ you should fight within the limitation or not at all...

He beat Martinez................If Martinez was struggling it wasn't his fault.......

Wasn't his fault he beat a cripple, but it doesn't support him as a credible 160 champ, especially considering his 'defences' have been at catchweights at pretty much LMW.

I hope Cotto loses. I'm tired of him and all the catchweight nonsense that seems to be seen as something normal now in boxing.

Pity Cotto was a favourite of so many but is really tarnishing his legacy these last few years....

I still love him! War Cotto! Hope he rolls back the years again, I won't be betting against it.

Hope the manlet gets clubbed like a baby seal. Wouldn't bet on it, though. Cotto fades late, but Alvarez doesn't really press the situation, and his stamina is still maybe a slight question mark. Think we'll see a close fight. Hoping Canelo, but it's not exactly a forgone conclusion.

Don't think Cotto fights GGG after this either.

I think the ref waves this off after 8. Cotto can't improve,Canelo can.

Cotto never will. He's had his career, made his money, why risk his health that significantly??

I'd like to see Miguel win(still a fan despite the negative press he gets on here,)but don't think Miguel will take the GGG fight so probably better Canelo wins.

Canelo/GGG is for the middleweight championship of the world proper and a big fight. Maybe GGG becomes first man to stop Canelo for me. But if he doesn't stop him, wins that one quite tidily on points.

Cotto /Canelo is a good fight and no foregone conclusion. But don't fall for the hype, hardly fight of the year, just an eliminator to face GGG.

Cotto used to be my favourite fighter so I do like the guy and think he's been reinvigorated under Roach. That said, I really do hope that this is the moment that Cotto exits the middleweight division. For the same reasons as others.


The problems are his catchweights, mainly and I find it unlikely that he'll fight Golovkin after.
Could be wrong there (and I'd hope to be if he wins) but I don't think he needs that fight at this stage of his career. No matter what you think of Golovkin, if you rate/don't rate him, he will destroy Cotto.

A move back down either way would be preferable. If he wins he'll probably want to milk the titles for a while longer though.

Yes Coxy will be extremely suprised if Cotto wins. Think Alveraz has improved and I fancy the stoppage myself.

Canelo by mid-late KO. Too strong. Cotto’s ‘middleweight’ ‘reign’ (both deserve to be in inverted commas) has been an insulting farce. Beat a completely shot Martinez*and has then (and I still can’t get my head around how much of a joke this is), insists that 160lbers aren’t allowed to fight at 160lbs for the title.

I actually like Cotto as a fighter but, come on, if you’re too small to fight at middleweight, don’t fight at middleweight. Pathetic. I’d actually have a lot of respect for him if he was defending the title at 160 – would be a great achievement and testament to his skills to do so for someone of his size.

*Not Cotto’s fault he was shot, but let’s not kid ourselves. I mean, Danny Williams beat Tyson for Christ's sake.

Canelo catches Cotto and then we get to see what Freddie "what's defense" Roach has as a backup plan if his man is getting punched. Repeatedly.

From memory I called Mayweather's performance a 'masterclass', which you love to overlook, but that Canelo was poor and, despite several fighters setting out how to at least challenge Mayweather, he didn't do anything that was required and looked very poor in doing so.

His lack of ability to impose his size advantage may have been to do with the catchweight tho......

Also, if Bute is a journeyman, then so is/was Canelo.

Canelo was never going to beat Mayweather. For me, the fight was built up as some sort of big fight purely because of the ticket sales and PPV numbers that Canelo brought with him into the fight. When it actually came to fight ability, Canelo was never in Mayweathers class.

The catchweight stuff didn't help him, but at the end of the day he just was never good enough. Someone like Thomas Hearns would have flattened Canelo in two rounds, possibly even the first.

Like Barkley and roldan...Who were ten times better than Alvarez...

I don't think Cotto can go 12 at a good pace.......I'm not sure Alvarez is smart enough to make him fight at a good pace....

Hence it's an interesting fight..............Canelo ko 11..

I genuinely think Cotto can win. I'm backing him. Although I shan't be risking £5 on it. That sort of money can get you two pints in the darker corners of the valleys!

Alvarez doesn't fight at a good pace - he tends to fight a bit tight. I think Cotto can outbox him, outthink him over 12 rounds.

As easy as that eh? 47 fights in, his coaches tell him to work and he completely changes his style to defeat Cotto. You don't actually watch boxing do you?

People do learn...........That's why they get better...

Canelo matches well against come forward fighters but not so well against boxers.

Cotto being a box fighter makes this very interesting. Hes easily the second best opponent Canelo has ever faced, even at his advanced age.

Cotto's tank is the big thing for me..

No one doubts he can do well early...
