Will all players get medals (winners and runner up), even those who have been released through injury, providing they have played a part in the winning (runner up) squads.

Surely they have to, as it would be so unfair for a player to have played their part in getting his nation to the final to then be injured and released, and then a replacement called up and maybe not even played to get one.

Anyone know the protocol.

From what I can find about the playing side every player who is selected for the World Cup gets at least a 'participation medal'; those are for the 17 teams who don't get to the Final or win the 3rd place playoff. Then there are medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd (Gold, Silver, Bronze).

Because all the players who aren't in the top 3 teams get these 'participation medals', I assume the whole squad from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed teams also get medals but can't find it spelled out anywhere.

There are also medals which are given out to some of the volunteers for their work making the tournament run smoothly.

Thanks guys... Makes sense that all involved get a medal. Wasn't sure whether a Gold, Silver, Bronze was there for 1st, 2nd and 3rd, knew there was a runner up, but that makes sense...

Good to know there are participating medals, that's great as every player has played his part in making this age at cup.... And of course it means the hosts don't go home empty handed Whistle
