How Great is Roman Gonzalez?

Gonzalez is poised to go 47-0 this weekend against top five ranked super fly Srisaket Sor Rungvisai. He's then scheduled to face the dangerous Carlos Cuadras (ranked top three behind Inoue and Gonzalez).

Should he come through those two, "Chocolatito" is then eyeing a super fight with Inoue and a rematch with Juan Francisco Estrada.

Rarely do fighters move up into a fourth division and then look to take over the thing - especially with the likes of Inoue and Cuadras about.

How great is he? How much greater can he become before he's done (he's still only 29)?

If he keeps fighting the best and moving up then if he gets the plaudits and the exposure that others have (*cough *cough Manny and Floyd) then no reason he won't be seen as the best of the generation AND hopefully if he continues to fight only the top ranked fighters should be seen as a blueprint on how to make your name in boxing.

It's tough for Gonzalez - he only made his HBO debut recently and obviously has to keep fighting the top men to keep their attention. He doesn't have the luxury of taking a gimme (or three).

Hoping the Inoue fight can happen before he slips.

He is only 29?! Wow. Never knew that. Assumed based on his record and how great he fights (ring generalship etc) that he was at least 33-34?!

He fought Cuadras last year. Good fight.

Gonzalez is obviously a cracking little fighter and if he needs to keep finding live opponents to keep the interest up then all the better for fight fans.

Amazing fighter is Chocolatito. Work rate is incredible. Power and hand/foot speed is sensational. 46/0 and he's always willing to face the best.

In my opinion he has gone as far as he can go in terms of weight classes

He's not huge.....only 5'3 and in his last fight, why cuadras is a good fighter, he was the smaller man and his punches didn't quite have the same impact they did at flyweight

I'm surprised at the lack of action on this thread since last night. I am on holiday and didn't see any of last night's card. For anyone that did what were the opinions of this fight and the decision?

Great fight and had it for Gonzalez narrowly. Srisaket was outstanding - fought like a tank, however, had Gonzalez not been butted, he may well have hung onto his unbeaten record. He now has the chance to answer the question posed by this thread!

Well said Haz, a loss is not a devastating hit to your legacy IF you come back and avenge it or ahow people it was a fluke as you go on and beat better fighters.
