RG - Day 11 - Page 3 Empty RG - Day 11

Post by sirfredperry Wed 07 Jun 2017, 6:40 am

First topic message reminder :

Due to Tuesday's rain, all four men's Q-F are scheduled for today plus two women's quarters. Bacsinszky took out Mladenovic yesterday and will face Ostapenko in the semis after the teenager overpowered Caroline W.
Rafa, Novak, Andy and The Man to come through. Reckon Halep and Pliskova will reach the semis, with the winner of that one likely to take the title.
Should Rafa win his 10th RG he would, I think, be on course to recapture the number one spot, particularly if he did well at Wimbledon. But should Djoko upset Nadal and then have a good Wimbledon then he might dislodge Andy.

Hard to believe if wawrinka was to win the tournament he would have more slam wins than Murray!

Certainly has. Very hard not to see him still at No.1 come the end of Wimby - particularly as it depends on Rafa finding his 2010/11 form on the grass.

I think Wawrinka has the bigger weapons (harder ground strokes) than Murray - which helps him when he is on his game.

The thing about how many points the number one has got is that we've got used to some dominant years from the likes of Fed, Rafa and Djoko. Nole had around 16,000pts at one time last year.
I still think that whoever ends up numero uno this year will have a good raft of points to show for it. Rafa, for instance, is already beyond 5,000 points for the year so far excluding a possible W/F at the French.

Assuming Rafa wins RG, he will be on nearly 7000 points in the race. Almost 3000 ahead of Federer.

Even if he performs badly on the grass, you would expect him to at least pick up QF/SF (as a minimum) in a lot of the hard court events. Unless Fed wins W/Cincy/USO it will be difficult for him or anyone else (Murray?) to finish above Rafa as YE 1.
