Task 1
In your teams of 4 i would like you to come up with a plan to get Everton to compete in the top 4 obviously with their takeover it gives you a high budget which will be set at £250m, You may also sell players via their TM Price but anyone bought for this season will not be eligible to be sold (Including Fat Sam). Incoming players must be realistic.
Money may be put towards other things such as youth facilities & staff etc

I think someone who has participated before should be PM just for the experience in what can go wrong
Similarly to the other team, I think we need to clarify a few things on what our budget covers and how success is going to be measured

I know I'm going to be struggling for time Monday-Weds next week, so probably best I'm not the leader. If nobody else takes it, I will go ahead though

Understand what you're saying - we'll see what Miky and Nadz think about leading first. I'm no bottler though, I was PM on the first task last time

So I think the approach should be looking at the squad and seeing what the best players are and what system we can build around them, then supplement with signings
For me - Pickford, Coleman (fitness dependant), Gueye, Siggy, Bolasie and Keane are central to our approach and we should be looking to complement them with any signings

Coaching staff
Upon taking over from Arsene Wenger, I would need to bring in assistants who would bridge the gap between the manager and the dressing room. Having Thierry Henry in to coach Aubameyang and Lacazette would be cute, but not addressing the core issues at Arsenal. Arsenal have struggled ever since Patrick Vieira left the club, and although he's in coaching roles for Manchester City (or for a foreign variation with the same owner), I believe that Vieira would take on an assistant manager role alongside me with a view to becoming manager when I am finished.
Vieira knows the club inside out, and more importantly he knows the areas where Arsenal are struggling badly. While we would have to address the centre back and defensive midfield issues in the transfer window, having Vieira on board will ensure we get the basics right on and off the pitch in terms of being solid defensively.
We would still bring in former players in coaching roles, the aforementioned Thierry Henry to coach the attackers, I would also bring in other popular ex players such as Emmanuel Petit and Freddie Ljungberg. These are players who fully understand the Arsenal ethos and would be huge assistance in coaching what we want to achieve into these players and getting back to the Arsenal of old, who had the mentality to win big trophies. We also have Per Mertesacker retiring at the end of the season to take on a coaching role so he would work with our defence on a full time basis.

Transfers
Key positions that need filling are centre back, defensive midfield, right back and centre midfield. As we are taking this as realistic rather than fantasy, making 9 or 10 signings in one window would create too much upheaval, especially with a new management team coming in.
Seeing as Arsenal have the funds, I believe that bringing in a few world class players for big money rather than blanket signing good players is the way forward. Our transfer targets are;
1. Koke (Atletico Madrid) - £120m
Offered £350k per week to match Ozil, which is £18m per year
Koke is a huge part of Atletico Madrid's midfield, and while they would be reluctant to part with him, Atletico are known as a selling club. We would make Koke Arsenal's joint highest earner along with Ozil/Aubameyang, and pay a large transfer fee to Atletico to convince the player to move. Koke would absolutely transform the Arsenal midfield, adding the workrate and physical attributes lacking from the Arsenal team while also fitting in with the footballing ethos of the side as a technically very gifted player.
2. Julian Weigl (Borussia Dortmund) - £30m + Granit Xhaka
Xhaka on £90k per week, Weigl would be offered £150k per week, so £60k per week outlay = £3m a year
Weigl has been a revelation for both Dortmund and Germany as a solid defensive midfielder which is exactly what Arsenal needs. As with Koke, Weigl's club would be heavily compensated but following the recent deal with Aubameyang there is scope for a deal, and also considering his reputation abroad would still be somewhat intact, I feel that a deal involving cash and Granit Xhaka could be reached. Weigl would earn a huge salary moving to Arsenal, and being ably assisted by our new assistant manager Patrick Vieira, Weigl could become the key to success at Arsenal.
3. Milan Skriniar (Internazionale) - £35m
To be offered £95k per week in line with the other top defenders at the club, which is £5m a year
Skriniar is young yet has very good experience in Serie A, he absolutely fits the bill for the Premier League and also we feel that Inter would accept a large bid from Arsenal. Skriniar would slot in alongside Mustafi in a very good back line, with the experience of the ageing Koscielny and the promising Rob Holding more than adequate cover over the season. I have picked Skriniar over other young centre backs because I believe his style is perfect for the more physical nature of the Premier League.
4. Emre Can (Liverpool) - £0
No transfer fee means the player will command a bigger salary, offering £200k to match Lacazette and Aubameyang, which is £10m a year
A bold yet controversial signing, and a player who would fit in with the footballing ethos of the club. Emre Can is a free agent in the summer, we would offer him a significant amount of money to stay in the Premier League, and feature in our Premier League challenging side regularly. We would often need a midfield trio and many would be hard pushed to beat a trio of Koke - Weigl - Can in terms of creativity and stability.
5. Jeremy Toljan (Borussia Dortmund) - £10m
Offering £70k per week, which is £3.5m a year
A far less glamorous signing than his Dortmund teammate Weigl, however I've identified Toljan as an ideal utility player for us. Arsenal have been forced into playing players out of position to fill in at either wingback or fullback this season, and it has led to weaker performances as a result of an unbalanced side. Toljan has played for Dortmund frequently this season so they would need a decent transfer fee to let him go, but I don't expect this to be an issue. Toljan covers RB, LB, RWB and LWB, and all to a high standard, so I feel he would be perfect cover for Bellerin and Kolasinac over the course of a season.
6. Malcom (Bordeaux) - £35m
Offering £85k per week, which is £4.5m a year
Malcom has been linked with Arsenal for several months, and while Arsenal do (or will) have a settled side, any title challenging side will need to have different options. Malcom is an out and out winger, who will provide us with direct pace to get at opposition fullbacks to create opportunities. I don't feel the price will be too much of an issue, Arsene Wenger rejected the idea of signing Malcom in January however he has been quoted as saying he is leaving Bordeaux in the summer, and at only 20 years old he is young enough to mould (under the tutelage of ex players like Henry and Ljungberg) into the player Arsenal both want and need him to be.
One more signing will be made in this summer transfer window, but one that will not affect the squad for at least a year. Petr Cech is ageing, and his contract expires at the end of next season. What I planned to do was sign a younger goalkeeper who we can loan out for next season at his current club, and then come in to replace Cech for the start of the 2019/20 season. We would of course offer Cech a coaching role if he so desires, and then the new goalkeeper would challenge David Ospina for the number one position. Therefore...
7. Jack Butland (Stoke City) - £35m
Butland already has significant Premier League and International experience, is young but at 24 is not too young, as we feel a goalkeeper needs a certain level of maturity, and would be able to cope with the pressure of being the number one goalkeeper at a big club.
As stated above, we would sign Butland but leave him out on loan at Stoke. This would ensure he is still playing regular Premier League football, and give him an extra years experience, hopefully with more England gametime, before he steps up to Arsenal.
Total spend on transfer fees: £275m
Additional annual wage bill increase for 2018/19 season: £44m
We feel that while this looks excessive, we have justification for this expenditure. The first reason is because Arsenal a year ago had £226m sitting in the bank. Since that year has passed, more prize money and more TV money has come in, and while a good sized chunk of money went on Lacazette and Aubameyang since then, I feel that a large amount of that pot is still available. It is also common knowledge that Alisher Usmanov wants to invest heavily in the side and while previously shot down by Stan Kroenke backing up Arsene Wenger, a new manager means a new era and for once a manager who believes Arsenal need to spend big money to be up there with the best. I'd also suggest £275m is not as much in this market as it was 2 or 3 years ago, transfer fees escalating have played a big part, Koke costing £120m is a reflection of this as two seasons ago I feel the fee would be half as much. In terms of wages, we are looking at an extra £44m per year on the wage bill for the new additions, minus what we save on any outgoing players.

Contracts
Two players have contracts expiring in the summer, Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere. With Cazorla's injury worries, I would be letting his contract expire, taking his £90k per week (roughly £4.5m a year) salary off the wage bill. There are rumours Jack Wilshere would be offered a new deal on lower wages. I would offer Jack a continuation of his current terms as he would be a great addition to our squad.

Current squad
The squad isn't actually the biggest, with Per Mertesacker retiring we don't really need to lose any players from the back, we have a few central midfield options in Xhaka, Ramsey and Wilshere, also Cazorla when fit, but only Elneny as a reliable defensive midfielder. Although Xhaka would be leaving the club as part of the deal that brings in Julian Weigl.
Our defensive and attacking backup is homegrown, which is something we need to take into account when building a squad, so I don't see a need to lose the likes of Chambers, Holding, Iwobi or Welbeck even if they aren't quite at the same quality as our starting line up. Over the course of the next 5 years we would definitely improve our squad, but we would retain Arsene Wenger's ethos of scouting Europe for youngsters who can break into the side from the youth team.
I don't want to lose Wenger's motto of "making stars instead of buying stars", but finding the right balance is key to preventing Arsenal turning into just another Tottenham, or just another Man City. Arsenal have been compared to Barcelona in their methods, but even Barcelona buy megastars from time to time to compliment their academy prospects.

Targets
First and foremost, our target absolutely has to be winning the Premier League. It is our bread and butter, it's been 15 years since Arsenal last won the title and the Premier League trophy is something Arsenal Football Club used to be synonymous with. Success in the domestic cups would be good, but not a priority.
Playing in the Champions League is vital to ensure we can keep our better players and attract more big names to the club, if Arsenal make the Champions League this season then great, we will happily play in it and try our best to win it, but if not, and if it's the Europa League again, then we will use the Europa League to best prepare our squad for the Premier League. Whether that's blooding youth, resting key players or giving key players fitness, that will be something we address at the time. The Premier League title is our number one ambition.
Going forward over the next five years, aside from transitioning the club from being run by an outsider to being run by former players, the goal once the Premier League has been obtained is to win the Champions League. The Champions League is something many Arsenal fans crave, even more so since rivals Chelsea won it in 2012. Arsenal haven't come close since the 2006 Final, and a club the size of Arsenal needs to be doing better than regular last 16 exits (or not even qualifying for the Champions League).
The best way to do this is to build a squad capable of challenging on all fronts, and not be reliant on certain individuals. One area we are already well stocked is upfront, where we have two world class strikers in Aubameyang and Lacazette, some may say they only need one but if we were to compete in the Premier League and the Champions League then that's at least 50 games over a season, not including domestic cup competitions.

Playing Style
Formation wise, there isn't a lot to alter. With the right players we shouldn't need to do more than tweak things rather than flat out start again. Our stock formation would be a 4-3-3 with wide attacking midfielders either side of the striker. Our first team would look like this.Cech

Mkhitaryan - Aubameyang - Ozil
Mkhitaryan playing at RAM and Ozil at LAM as attacking midfielders working from the flanks, and cutting infield to allow Bellerin and Kolasinac to overlap and get crosses in. In Koke, Weigl and Can, we would have three players more than capable of maintaining a solid base as well as providing cover when the fullbacks are caught forward.
We would aim to have two players in each position, and although there would be room for improvement, we would also have a "backup" side of;Ospina
Toljan - Holding - Koscielny - Monreal
Ramsey - Elneny - Wilshere
Malcom - Lacazette - Welbeck
With Chambers, Maitland-Niles, Iwobi and Nketiah making up the rest of the squad, filling the Homegrown quotas for us as well as providing cover.
We believe we have the squad capable of adapting and changing formation. We have fullbacks capable of playing wingback roles in Bellerin, Kolasinac and Toljan, and if we played a back three then Monreal is able to move from LB to LCB to give us a pool of five centre backs to fill the three positions.
Our ideal midfield three I feel would be more than capable playing in a two (in any combination) if we needed to be more attacking, and we would also be able to use Lacazette and Aubameyang together if chasing a game, as both are proven goalscorers. We have two players able to play a central AM role in Mkhitaryan and Ozil, and if needed an out and out winger in Malcom, who can run at opposition fullbacks to create opportunities.

Summary
Just to summarise, my plan will be to bring former players into the coaching staff, eventually leaving the club in their capable hands. We would spend an initial outlay of £275m in transfer fees, and £44m a year in wages, to bring in players who would turn the side from also rans into legitimate title contenders, with the marquee signing being Koke. We would play a 4-3-3 with our new midfield bridging the gap between our back four and our attack. Part of the plan with Aubameyang and Lacazette is to rotate them, as if we had a successful season in the cup competitions we'd be playing over 50 games which is too much for one striker to deal with. The new midfield, along with the addition of Skriniar, would in my opinion, make Arsenal strong throughout the XI instead of just in certain areas, and give us the platform to allow our attack to win matches and ultimately, silverware. Kostas Manolas - £30m - He has a release clause at that price inserted into his new contract recently signed - Would be on wages around 80k a week on a 4 year deal well above what he earns in Italy (4.1m a year after tax) (16.6m for contract)
Alvaro Odriozola - £35m - Again he's release clause and will be apart of a back 4 restructuring taking place at RB over the departing Hector Bellerin - Wages at 60k a week on a 5 year deal (3.1m a year after tax) (15.6m for contract)
Alternative - Alvaro has been linked with Real Madrid recently but nothing appears to have come of it. On the off chance that they came back in then we would target Benjamin Henrichs of Bayern Leverkusen who would cost £25m but be on the same wages as Odriozola.
Nabil Fekir - £60m - Whilst rumors suggesting a move for £45 in the summer before the world i don't believe Lyon would sell for this and would want closer to 60m. We would like this to be done pre-world cup so the price doesn't go up or attract a Real Madrid who go for WC standouts like James - Wages - 100k a week 4 year deal (5.2m a year) (20.8m for contract
Marco Reus - £35m - Wages 115k on 3 year deal (6m a year after tax) (18m for contract) - Marco needs a fresh start and has a year left on his contract at Dortmund. We believe a fresh start from his injury nightmare and the chance to re-unite with Auba & Henrikh would appeal to him
Mario Lemina - £30m - Recently signed for Southampton and impressed for them this season but Southampton are a selling club at the best of times so shall look to take advantage of this by doubling their money to get hold of a desperately needed defensive Midfielder - 80k a week for 4 years for Mario (4.1m a year after tax) (16.6m for contract)
Total - £207m on transfers fees - 103.6m on wages = Overall total = £310.6m
New Contracts for Aaron Ramsey, & Jack Wilshere to keep them at the club on long term contracts. Reiss Nelson will also be tied down to a long term deal and promoted to the 1st team squad

Hector Bellerin - £40m - Hector has endlessly been linked with a return to Barcelona and with his contract extended we believe now is time to cash in on someone that hasn't progressed as well as he could have by now. (100k a week) (20.8m for contracts saved)
Alex Iwobi - £20m - He has been a known partier before games and we don't believe he has the attitude to succeed so shall be moved out the club possibly to a Turkish side due to many African stars moving out there for the money alternatively a side like Inter/Roma in Seria A - 30k a week (1.5m a year) (6.2m saved on wages)
Calum Chambers - £20m - Crystal Palace - Previously have come in for Callum (25k a week) (1.3m a year) (5.2m saved on wages)
Petr Cech - £6m - To move back home to Czech Republic with Sparta Prague where he made his name (100k a week) (20.8m for contract saved)
Rob Holding - To go on loan to Bournemouth for the season with a call back clause due to our relationship with them (50% wages paid so 12.5k a week saved for the year) (0.65m a year) (2.6m saved on wages)
Danny Welbeck - £20m - West Ham - They are chasing PL standard forwards but seem to get knocked down a lot so Danny would be a risk worth taking for them (70k a week) (3.6m a year) (10.9m saved)
Outs - 101m on fees - 66.5m on wages - Total - £172.5m
Total outlay - £106m on fees & 37.1m on wages for a net spend of £143.1m which is a reasonable outlay for a team of our positioning at the moment with an owner who is reluctant to spend. It may seem a lot now but over the length of the contract it's roughly £28m a year to pay off + what is taken from the club value to continue paying off the stadium.
Realistically Arsenal should be aiming for the top 4 over the next 5 years. Whilst we have a lot of money we can't go about spending like Citeh or United who have an open chequebook so we plan to get closer to them over the next 5 years pushing them all the way.

We shall revert back to 4 at the back as 3-4-3 hasn't worked to well for us. We shall continue to pass the ball about but shall look to move it quicker with 3 am's rotating across the middle to keep other teams guessing with Aubameyang using his pace to stretch space for them by running in behind

I’d like to reach out to 2 people in particular, Thierry Henry as assistant manager and Dennis Bergkamp as Head of Youth Development.
Henry has been working as assistant manager for Belgium recently to gain experience, has continued to have knowledge on the English game due to his participation in Sky Sports punditry and is regarded as Stan Kroenke’s preferred choice of manager. He’s also obviously a huge fan favourite so would create a more positive reaction from the fans especially as large swathes of the fanbase of late has grown toxic towards the direction the club has been going in. Bergkamp has been working at Ajax until recently as head of youth development and it’s a role that we’d like for him to do here. Again he’s an old fan favourite so to have him involved with the club is only a positive, to also have someone with his technical knowhow overseeing the kids can bring forth a new crop of gifted players to the first team in the coming years.
Further on from the two main appointments I’d like to overhaul the physio staff at the club, Arsenal for several years have been known as a team that has half their squad on the treatment table and this needs to be looked at. The Juventus medical team is regarded as one of if not the best in the world currently so I would be looking to acquire their services, Gianluca Scolaro & Emanuele Randelli as physios, Stefano Grani as Sports Scientist)
Scouts wise Arsenal have recently secured a new chief scout from Dortmund, I’d look for him to build a team of his choosing going forward.
2. Transfer plans for the next window - both in and out.
Players out
3 current 1st team players have contracts expiring this summer in Cazorla, Wilshere and Macey, whilst Cazorla when fit is an outstanding player it’s well documented that his career hangs on a thread, he’s 32 and on £90k per week, so we unfortunately have to act as a business rather than a charity so won’t be looking to renew his contract. In the case of Wilshere he’s recently shown that he’s regained his form and is looking the player that burst onto the scene so will offer him a new 2 year deal with a 1 year extension option at his current 90k per week. Matt Macey we will allow his contract to expire. Selling players is obviously dependent upon the offers that come in but we will make it known that reasonable offers for the following shall be seriously considered:
Cech – Still only 35 but from the player Arsenal bought who was meant to gain Arsenal 15 points a season he’s often become the reason Arsenal have dropped points, on £100k a week as well so look to move him asap. (5m)
Ospina – When he’s come in he’s not been good enough. (5m)
Monreal – no real fault of his own but with both him and Kolasinac it’s two decent LBs fighting out for the main spot and at 31 I’ve gone with the more youthful to remain, he himself will want a club where he’s clear 1st choice (10m)
Welbeck – 13 goals in 60 appearances, only thing he’s consistent with is injuries. (10m)
Lacazette – Was a good purchase in the summer but already now behind Aubameyang in pecking order and too similar a player. (50m)
Xhaka – Inconsistent and struggles with distribution and defensive duties. (15m)
Chambers – Just never come on since joining the club. Still young though so willing to listen to loan offers. (15m)

Max Meyer – Heavily linked with Arsenal already and deemed to be the main transfer target, Meyer has been the best defensive midfielder in the Bundesliga this season and plays similar to Verratti, he’s also available as a free transfer this summer which allows us to strengthen elsewhere and with Bayern already bringing in Goretzka and having a plethora of midfielders the usual move for German players to Bayern is probably not on the cards. Christian Pulisic – The Dortmund player has recently made it known of his desire to play in the Premier League and when recently asked about his friendship with Aubameyang he said ‘What I think you guys really don’t know is just how nice of a character he is and how much he cares and how hard he works. I mean, he brought me along so much as a player and helped me and guided me, and he’s been such a great guy.’ The chance to reunite with him at Arsenal as well as Mkhitaryan should be a draw for him as well as the mix of English/German speaking players that the team has in depth. £45m, wages of 70k (current wage is 25k pw at Dortmund), if we’re unable to acquire Pulisic then Leon Bailey or Hirving Lozano would be targeted.
Clement Lenglet – Lenglet would be brought in as 3rd choice CB and understudy to Koscielny. £20m, wages of 60k pw

Promoted from Youth Team: We want to show going forward that we are a club that promotes youth players, in doing so this then in turn should snowball to attract more talented young players to join us at a young age. As a result we’re looking to give more game time to Reiss Nelson, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Joe Willock, Eddie Nketiah & Donyell Malen, by freeing up 3 spaces in the squad this will provide them all with more opportunities to come off the bench etc.
3. Targets on the pitch for the next five years.
Whilst the Premier League is the most competitive league in the world currently it comes at a price for the clubs at the top end with the volume of games played over a season. If Arsenal as expected aren’t in the CL next season then this allows us to be fresher domestically, utilise the squad in the Europa League and to blood in the younger players whilst also looking to improve in the big games domestically where currently Arsenal have struggled. Our first focus would have to be qualification for the top four as a bare minimum. With less demanding games, improved medical staff and a high focus on these pressure games we should be able to attain this. Once acquired, financially Arsenal are now probably the most secure club in the world and being based in London we can begin to use that pull to attract world class players with CL secured. Domestic cups are a nicety and are not to be used to gloss over a poor season which has been done for the last ten years of Wenger, we will use the squad players for all games in the cups until semi finals, and then those that have excelled in the cup games will remain. The priority has to be continued domestic league improvement, currently there’s only City that are head and shoulders above the opposition so targeting a regular 2nd place is not beyond imagination and possible title push.
4. The playing style and XI that would be used next season.
With the recent acquisitions of Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan then we’d be looking to adapt the style of play going forward to one that’s already being used successfully by Liverpool and Tottenham in the league of a high pressing game that allows our pacy forwards to then exploit mistakes before the opposition are able to recover. Arsenal’s style of play prior was lauded but it’s moved on from the attractive but lacking finishing, Liverpool etc are getting press coverage and playing attractive yet penetrating football and we have the players that can play this high pressure game.

Summary
My plan for Arsenal is relatively straightforward in what I think needs to be done. My primary objective would be to request that I am only given the job if I will be backed by the board to make the signings that I need, am able to let go of the players that I think are detrimental to where I want the club to go, and the support to bring in my own staff.
In return, I would guarantee a return to the top 4 next season, and to continue the success that Arsenal have had in the cup competitions. I recognise that immediately challenging for the title will be a massive challenge given the work that the squad needs, and how far ahead Man City are this season.
Budget Request
I request a transfer budget of £300m solely for the immediate summer transfer window, to make a splash and really get the club buzzing again. This budget would cover both fees and wages
I request that any transfer fees received from sales, and any wages saved from those players are added to my budget, and help form the basis for wages for any new signings
Team Culture
I want to instil a winning culture back into the club, and get the fans on side immediately. There has been too much negativity in the stadium and across social media, the players will inevitably be scared to make mistakes and their heads will drop at the first sign of discontent in the stands.
My first step to do this will be to bring in club legends as part of my coaching team. The following appointments will be made
Assistant Manager – Dennis Bergkamp
Steve Bould has done a good job, but he is too closely associated with Wenger and his regime. I want to bring in Bergkamp as my assistant manager. He has had 4 years’ experience as an assistant at Ajax, a big European club. I think it is time that he brings his experience and knowledge back to Arsenal to act as the first team coach.
First team coaches – Jens Lehmann, Neil Banfield, Robert Pires, Santi Cazorla*
I would keep Lehmann and Banfield to ensure some continuity, and keep some knowledge around me. I offer Pires the chance to come back to Arsenal as a first team coach, as he has previously expressed an interest in working with the club. Cazorla will not have his contract renewed due to his fitness, but is 100% welcome at the club to train, and if he is unable to resume playing we would be delighted to have him as a coach
The goalkeeping and fitness coaches will remain as they are – Gerry Peyton, Sal Bibbo, Tony Colbert
My reasons for centring my coaching team around the Invincibles of 2004 is to bring a winning mentality into the club. My record speaks for itself, but the club’s players and current coaching regime have become accustomed to average performances – this will not continue
I am happy to work with Raul Sanilehi and Sven Mislintat as my effective directors of football, and rate their expertise in finding players highly.
I will continue to invest in youth, and at my first press conference as manager, I will commit to bringing the most talented youth players through into the first team squad.
I believe that by bringing in club legends like Bergkamp and Pires, and recommitting to bringing through the very talented youth players that Arsenal can produce, I will begin my reign with positivity from the fans, and aim to continue this with a strong start to the season.
Transfer plans
My broad aim for next season is to build my side around the talents of Mesut Ozil and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang. I think the club has invested heavily in the two players, and in an attacking sense they are the best we could have at this moment in time. I will look to the rest of my squad to complement their abilities as best as possible, as well as giving them the strong foundation from which to play.
We will be playing a 4-2-3-1 system.

My aim for sales is not so much to bring in additional budget for transfers, as it is to show the players that remain that being a big name signing doesn’t mean that you are untouchable. By selling off big name players on large wages like Kolasinac, Mustafi, Perez and Xhaka, I want to show the players and the fans that I mean business, and expensive luxury players are no good to me.
Adding £141m to my transfer budget will also obviously be of great help when it comes to bringing in the players that I want to work with
We will sadly not be renewing Santi Cazorla’s contract due to his fitness. He will continue to be offered the opportunity to train with the club to try and regain his fitness, and also has the option of joining us as a coach if that is something he would like to do.

Summer 2018 signings
Stefan De Vrij and Jonny Evans – CBs
De Vrij has been announced to be leaving Lazio on a free transfer. I do not believe there is a better defender on the market this summer that would be a realistic target for Arsenal – with the Dutch influence of Bergkamp behind the scenes, I believe we would be able to offer sufficient wages and prospects as a club to lure him to join us. We would offer £10m as a signing on fee to Stefan.
Jonny Evans has been linked to Arsenal repeatedly and we will finally give him that move this summer. I believe he has a £3m release clause if WBA are relegated, but will assume £10m will get our man.
Stefan and Jonny are to be the foundation of our side, I want physically strong, ball playing central defenders with the experience of being leaders at top clubs, which they both possess. I am not worried about bedding in a brand new centre back pairing, as Stefan is available on a free and Jonny is likely to be relegated with WBA, I would look to secure the signing of these two on 1 July, as neither is playing in the World Cup this summer.
Lucas Torreira and Abdoulaye Doucoure – CM/DM
I want to continue to strengthen the spine of the team, as I feel that is where Arsenal have lacked so much over the past seasons. Lucas is a top talent, and has shown his ability as a defensive minded midfielder in Italy over the past season. I see him as potentially one of the next generation’s finest midfielders and think he has the ability to grow into that player with us.
Having said that, bringing a 21 year old over from Italy and throwing him straight into the Premier League may not be the best way to succeed. For this reason, I’m bringing in another midfielder with the experience and proven success to be able to play in the first team. Abdoulaye has shown with Watford the impact he can have in all areas of the field. I feel that between Torreira, Doucoure, Wilshere and Elneny, we can put out any combination of those 4 that will be a strong foundation as the 2 sitting midfielders in our team.
Nabil Fekir – AM/LW
As much as I think the attacking talent of the team is already strong, I believe Alexis Sanchez must be replaced – he was an unbelievable source of goals and assists, and very few players can match that level of productivity. Nabil Fekir has proven himself in France for a number of seasons, and looks ready for a big move.
Nabil has been linked to Arsenal for some time, and historically the team has had success with French players. I want to bring him in as our big signing for the summer, the blockbuster player who will really energise the fan base and help push the club on. I am aware that he will be an expensive signing almost in line with Aubameyang, but the funds are available.
I want to use Nabil and Ozil as complimentary players, both able to float between the wings and central attacking midfield areas, making it impossible to track them effectively.
Philipp Max – LB
Monreal has been a great servant to the club, but he is ageing and has only 1 year left on his contract. Philipp Max has been one of the most attacking full backs in Europe this season, and has the stats to back it up. Using Milinstat’s connections in Germany, I want to steal a march on my rivals and snap him up. He will initially be brought in to rotate with Monreal, but I would eventually like to see him become a first team player.
Bartomej Dragowski – GK
Petr Cech is 35 years old, but will be a very good goalkeeper for at least another season or two. His long term replacement is Dragowski. We’ll bring him in and let him work with Cech and Lehmann, two top Premiership goalkeepers, with a view to him being our starting keeper in 2 seasons time, sooner if he proves his ability
Club targets
I’m committing to the following goals
2018/19 – Top 4, Europa League SF, win a domestic cup
2019/20 – Top 2, Champions League QF, progress to latter stages of domestic cups
2020/21 – Title win, CL SF
At this point, I believe my term as manager should be evaluated with an option for both club and manager – I think one of the reasons for Arsenal being where they are today is due to staleness. If I am succeeding against my goals and am being backed by the board, the option should be picked up. If not, then it won’t be
Future transfer plans
I do not intend to panic buy in January as per the previous regime.
Summer 2019 window will see another top class central defender brought in to partner De Vrij depending on how I think Evans has gone. I would also like to target a similar level of midfielder to come in and partner Torreira in my first choice midfield - with the level of football we are playing, the likes of Evans, Doucoure and Wilshere will still get plenty of game time

Cech offers the experience and knowhow of the PL at the back, and he will continue in that role.
A strong CB pairing will offer the base for the side to be built on, both good on the ball but also strong defensively against physical and pacey players
Bellerin is the more attacking FB, Monreal can play both ways. Max will be a very strong rotation option when we are likely to dominate, but needs work on his defending
Torreira/Doucoure and Wilshere are charged with setting the tempo, protecting the CBs and really driving the team on from midfield. Arsenal will no longer be bullied in this area, with all 3 able to mix it physically as well as really play when we have the ball
As mentioned, the side will be built around Ozil’s talents releasing a very talented attacking trio around him. I will use him the way he was used in Madrid – number 10 role but he will have the attitude and discipline drummed into him to do his defensive duties in every game, not just the odd game.
Even if he isn’t producing in an attacking sense, I want to see the work rate to put pressure on the deepest midfielder for the opposition and drop deeper if we’re under pressure. I truly believe this will elevate his game to the next level, as he will then be at minimum a 7/10 player with the quality to be a 10/10 any given game. If he doesn’t deliver, Ramsey offers a very strong alternative in that position and Ozil is not too big a name to be dropped
Fekir/Mkhi are free to rotate with Ozil, all 3 have the intelligence to play across the pitch and thrive, Fekir also offers the option of a false 9 type of player
Aubameyang/Laca/Welbeck are all great at running in behind, stretching the opposition. They will be measured on the goals they provide, the trio behind are excellent creators so I just want goals and that ruthless edge that Arsenal have had previously in the likes of Henry and RVP to return

I, Oliver Inwards, propose the following as my plans for moving Arsenal out of the current rut they are in, if I became manager at the club.
Style of play
Firstly I would like to details the style of play I will be bringing to the club. I would like to install a strong 4-2-3-1 formation into the club, of which we will be very attack minded playing cutting penetrative football - I will place less emphasis on possession based football. The forward four plays will be given free license to roam, with one of the midfield two also being given the creative license to push forward. We will have one of the midfield two be an enforcer/DM type. The back four will all look to be athletic defenders, who are able to hold a high line and build attacks from the back.
Staff
These are the following staff I would like to bring with me to the club, to help us progress the players we purchase as well as the young players coming through.
Assistant Manager - Mike Phelan - A man proven at the highest levels of the game as an assistant, Mike has experience in crafting a team built to attack and handling some of the biggest names in football. Currently out of work, Mike is willing to jump at the chance to become a part of our coaching staff
Goalkeeping Coach - Dave Watson - Currently at Southampton, Dave has worked as England's goalkeeping coach and in the Premier League for many years, with proven success. He is looking to take the next step in his career, and we'd like that to be with us.
Set piece coach - Gianni Vio - something we feel Arsenal need to become better at is set pieces, and Gianni has worked for many years across many countries crafting some of the best set pieces around. Currently at Leeds, under a manager who didn't hire him, he is looking to move onto a new venture.
Attacking/shooting coach - Thierry Henry - this is the biggest risk of the group, but a man with his heart in the club who would get the fans on board, we believe Thierry would have some great ideas to bring to our attacking game
Of the current staff at Arsenal, we would demote Steve Bould from assistant manager to defence coach, and have Per Mertesacker support him. We would also keep Colin Lewin and his physiotherapy/sports science staff, as they do a good job.
In terms of Director of Football - we would keep the recently appointed Sven Mislintat as Chief Scout and Raúl Sanllehí as Head of Football Operations.
Summer window 2018
We believe that the Arsenal squad as it stands needs a radical overhaul during the summer transfer window of 2018. Whilst we appreciate a lot of turnover can sometimes cause issues, this squad is in a state of nothingness at the moment and some change and shakeup wouldn't hurt us. As noted above, we are looking to install a specific formation and style of play, and all transfers and targets would be with that in mind.
Firstly we would deal with out of contract players. Despite having an option to extend him for a further year, we wouldn't take this up and will release Santi Cazorla due to his injury issues and wage. We would offer and extend Jack Wilshere's stay at the club.
Next we would look to sell or offload the following (anticipated sale prices taken based on TM values)
Petr Cech - sell to a European side for circa £10m
Matt Macey - sell for circa 250k to lower league English side.
Per Mertesacker - retiring, move to a coaching role.
Konstantinos Mavropanos - loan move to a European side for first team football
Calum Chambers - sell for circa £10m to a lower half PL side - not good enough for our squad.
Mohamed Elneny - sell for circa £10m to a European side - surplus to requirements
Danny Welbeck - sell for circa £15m to a lower half PL side - too high wages for his role
These moves would bring in roughly £60m worth of budget in terms of fees and space from wages freed up.
In terms of incomings, we would be looking to bring in a new GK, a new CB, a new DM/CM and a new RW as a priority for the first XI. We would also be looking to bring in a backup RB, a backup CM, a backup AM and a backup LW. We will look to make sure the backup players are young players with potential for the future. See transfer targets below;
GK - Alban LaFont - Toulouse - Fee £20m - one of the best young goalkeepers in the world, we would purchase LaFont to be our goalkeeper for the next 10/15 years. Whilst the inital investment is large, this will be great value for money long term.
CB - Jonathan Tah - Leverkuesen - Fee £30m - our squad needs a strong, CB who has great leadership potential but also fits our style of play. Tah fits all boxes, and a step up in terms of team will be what his next career step is. Again a large fee, but he could be our main CB for a decade, so is worth the outlay.
DM/CM - Amadou Diawara - Napoli - Fee £25m - Diawara has fallen slightly out of favour at Napoli this season with the play of Jorginho, so we would look to bring him into our midfield and make him a mainstay. He would be the enforcer that Arsenal have needed ever since Vieira left.
RW - Malcom - Bordeaux - Fee £40m - Arsenal are noted fans of him, and so are we! Malcom fits exactly what we are looking for from the RW position, and has the potential to be a world class talent for us.
Backup RB - Vitinho - Cruziero - Fee circa 500k - with Bellerin installed as our long term RB, we feel we need a young up and coming RB to take over from him in around 4/5 years time, who could also do a job if needed due to injury etc. Vitinho is one of the best young RB prospects in the world, and relatively cheap too, he would fit right into our specified criteria.
Backup CB - James Tarkowski - Fee circa £15m - Tarkowski has been great this season for Burnley and would fit right into Arsenal and our style of play - he could potentially push Koscielny for a starting XI berth too.
Backup DM/CM - Ruben Neves - Wolves - Fee circa £20m - Neves went to Wolves to give him a showcase to get a big move to a top PL club, and we will take him on that! He could easily be the backup to Diawara or if he plays well enough, could be the starter. Either way, he comes into the squad as a valuable asset.
Backup AM - James Maddison - Norwich - fee circa £25m - Maddison is the top young English talent in football in our eyes, and would be the perfect backup to Ozil in the AM role, especially considering Ozil is getting on in years and will need plenty of rotation. He would also flourish under specific set piece coach Vio. A top top signing
Backup LW - Ryan Sessegnon - Fulham - fee circa £20m - the other top young English talent in football, Sessegnon would be a perfect backup for Henrikh and could take over the LW slot in a few years.
A rough outlay of £200m, and incomings of £60m means we will need a budget of around £140m to make this all happen. With the players we have signed, we would be looking for this budget to come from further years budget, as these players will be mainstays for a while and as such will not need so much money in future windows.

Tactics - as we said, we are looking to play penetrating attacking football, less emphasis on possession and push high up the pitch. LaFont would be a sweeper keeper, the FBs will look to push on and overlap the wingers who look to cut inside more often than not, Diawara at CM would sit all game in front of the CBs to allow the FBs to push on, and Ramsey would push on from the other CM role. Ozil is the creator in chief, and Aubemeyang will look to link up and get in behind. We are looking to outscore the other teams.
Plans for the coming seasons
For the 2018/19 season, whilst installing our new style of play and new players, we are looking to return to the Top 4 of the Premier League as our main goal. We would also like to give the young players a run out in the Europa League for experience, but this competition isn't a priority, it is all about getting back into the Top 4. Cups wise, we would look to target and win the FA Cup, to give fans a day at Wembley to remember. Carabao Cup is not a priority.
Getting back into the Top 4 is crucial from an income standpoint, marketing standpoint, but also footballing. It would allow us to attract a new calibre of player to the club, and is the first step to rebuilding the dominant Arsenal side of yesteryear.
For the 2019/20, and 2020/21 seasons, we would look to be competing for the PL title year in year out, whilst also holding our own in the Champions League. Whatever other cup runs happen, happen, but are not a priority.
By the 2021/22 season, and the end of that season the goal is to have won the Premier League and reach the final four of the Champions League. If it comes earlier than planned, that would be great, but by the end of this season that is what we need. From there forward, it is a case of repeating success, and maintaining our status at the top of the game.
Transfer Philosophies for future
Our main philosophy is to buy young players who we can build into the first XI in coming years to replace older, outgoing players. However, once in the Champions League, we would also look to make one "splash" signing per season, to give us a boost on and off the pitch.

We will look to make sure the academy continues to produce youth products for the first team, but mainly they will be loaned out during their development years to clubs who play a similar style to us, and then we will judge if they can make the grade for our squad or if they need to be sold.
Conclusion
As you can see, we are proposing something that is going to be bold and will take guts for you to invest in. But, with your full commitment and backing, we believe this plan will get Arsenal out of their current slumber, and take us forward in the Post Wenger era, unlike how Man Utd progressed in the post Fergie era.

I'd also scrap Jagielka and Niasse. Not sure on whether Bolasie is good enough for the team we're trying to build and I would be tempted to offload him rather than make him a key player.

Happy to take a consensus on Bolasie - just think that if we're focused on top 4 we need depth in the squad, and there may not be sufficient funds to get in enough wide players to completely discard him, and he'd also be a great impact sub

Hello Hero, welcome to the interview. Thank you for providing your submission on time.
I will cover three broad areas, each one with a couple of questions. First of all, I want to ask about your set-up and staffing.
Firstly, I am pleased you have spotted our recent appointment of the chief scout. I also think bringing in the Juventus medical team is a good idea, but how would you ensure that they join Arsenal?
Can I ask your thoughts on whether Steve Bould will be retained?
You have chosen to bring in Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp. Do you think that it was a romantic decision rather than a logical decision?
Please provide your response to this, and then I will move on to the next topic.
1. In regards to the medical team I'm aware that the club have recently redeveloped the medical facilities at Colney Park for last season to include cyrochambers, ice baths, spa and has dedicated space for yoga and pilates. I'm all for our players to not only to be in peak physical fitness but also peak mental well-being. I'd hope that these facilities and my vision for Arsenal to become the leading sports club in the world for player well-being will entice the Juventus medical team onboard.
2. Steve Bould would be thanked for his long standing commitment to Arsenal but I'd like to bring in my own team with new ideas and fresh impetus. I appreciate the thought process of continuity between eras but in bringing in both Henry and Bergkamp we retain the rich history of Arsenal football club whilst also pushing forth in a new direction.
3. Will Henry and Bergkamp create an excitement for the fans and the club as a whole with their appointments, yes of course. Are they both experienced in those roles? Yes as well. It's documented that Stan Kroenke actually wants Henry for the outright manager role so clearly there's belief he's worth the gamble, by bringing him as assistant allows him to gain knowledge within the club with the eventual aim take on the helm from myself. Bergkamp has been involved in in the youth development process at Ajax for several years, a team with world renown for promoting young talent and we wish for Dennis to continue his work us to transform the development of younger players within the club. London has a higher population than Scotland and Wales combined, it's a hotbed of talent from across the globe and we wish to reach out into the community more to become The London club for developing and promoting youth talent.
I'm aware of the size of London, and that the likes of Henry and Bergkamp would bring a buzz. But my question was whether they have that tactical nous and coaching experience. In any case, I would like to move on to look at the squad you have proposed.
Regarding the players leaving, do you think it is harsh to let go of Monreal given his excellent form this season? Same question for Lacazette, who we have made a significant investment in.
Do you think it might have been wiser to bring in a player or two with Premier League experience? Other than Butland, all of your players are gambles from Europe.
You have proposed a net spend of £5m with a saving of money. Do you think that you perhaps could have been more ambitious, spending more money and creating a better team?

For all the players leaving I’ve made it clear that it’s dependent on the offers coming in and that I’d be happy for either player to remain, I wouldn’t though stand in either players way if they decided to move on knowing that they wouldn’t be the first choice for the club in the season ahead. Both are talented players who deserve better than being on the bench, that at present is all I can offer them. If though they remained and then warranted a name on the team sheet through their performances then I would be more than happy.
Do you think it might have been wiser to bring in a player or two with Premier League experience? Other than Butland, all of your players are gambles from Europe.
Premier League experience is not the be all and end all of players. Many a player can play for one team in the Premier League and move to another only to be a flop ala Fernando Torres, Robbie Keane, Andy Carroll. Of the first teamers coming into the squad there’s 2 from overseas in Meyer and Pulisic, the other two will have time to adapt over time. Both Meyer and Pulisic come from the Bundesliga which historically has been an easy transition to the Premier League for players, our club itself has a large number of German speaking players to have acclimatise the players and Pulisic would be playing in a system he’s already accustomed to with players he’s already built a playing relationship with. As previously mentioned I’m also extremely passionate about the mental well-being of our players so all steps would be taken to ensure all new team members are integrated fully and feel at home.
The Premier League itself has evolved in recent years to a more continental skill based game, the pitches, diet etc all improved and I have no doubt

A spend of £120m is a vast amount for the club, far in excess of the £48m spend last summer. As previously stated as well, the departures for the club is a maximum number and dependent entirely on offers coming in for these players so the net gain may be less if offers aren’t forthcoming. In the same respect an offer may come for a player I wish to keep that either the player themselves wishes to move upon or that the offer itself is too good to turn down. My original plan is not one that’s set in stone, things can and often do change overnight and I would be flexible to meet those changes.
I’d be looking to bring in my initial quintet early into the summer but that’s not to say based on circumstances of the summer transfer window that I’d then like to reinforce the team further if budgets allow.

Not necessarily, again I think this harkens back to the English game of yesteryear from which the game has evolved, the current Man City team has a midfield of De Bruyne and Silva, neither of which are bruisers, where I wish to improve is the desire and camaraderie of the team. For each and every player to have that will and hunger to win, to have everyone playing for the badge and for each other. By ensuring that the players are in peak physical and mental health they in turn will put 100% in, they’ll raise their game to meet the challenges when in other times their heads will have dropped.

I’d like to reply in regards to this, I do have a clear vision of my targets as do most managers as the summer transfer window approaches but I’m also pragmatic and realistic in how the industry works, a club has targets, not always do they have 100% success in acquiring those targets and at that point a manager has to make decisions. Take for example Man Utd last summer, they had clear targets of Griezmann and Perisic at the start of summer, Griezmann was 90% done until Atletico were hit with a transfer ban and hand pangs of loyalty to the club, the Perisic deal dragged a& dragged and eventually never happened. Meanwhile Lukaku, a player who previously was nailed on to rejoin Chelsea suddenly came onto the radar and a deal was done for him, this January the same again occurs with Sanchez & Mkhitaryan, neither Utd or our club Arsenal expected to end January with the players they have but when opportunities or problems arise then you have to be flexible enough to meet them.
I have a clear list of preferred players both in and out of the club. It is not though a inflexible and unadaptable plan based upon what occurs in the market.

I would like to see the fruit of my labour with the youth system and well-being coming through into the first team so I have a 5 year plan, beyond that I would like reevaluate as sure you will do based upon success on and off the pitch.

We start the season on the same points as everyone else, as seen in the last few years it’s anyone’s to be won. Man City currently look to have a great set up but clubs will adapt and raise their game when playing them so they will find it harder to defend their crown, after them we’re certainly in the mix and with our new attacking unit and chemistry we should fear no-one and strive for glory. It will not be easy but through a process of resting first team players for cup games and targeting more points from the big 6 clashes we should be in a better place to challenge than recent years.
Would you accept that an Arsenal side should always be targeting maintaining the high-quality attacking football which many fans have enjoyed?
I’m a manager that wants to win trophies, but I do still have a clear principle of attacking attractive football as shown by the players I wish to bring into the club, the main difference is I want put together an Arsenal side that puts the ball in the net when the opportunity arises rather than do another 5 or 6 passes.

I'm glad you are pleased about me keeping newly appointed staff members in place, I will answer your queries specifically below.
Mike Phelan would be a good, experienced coach to add to the team, no question. However, would he be accepted by the players and the fans given his strong connection with Man United?
I strongly believe he would be accepted very quickly by the fans, providing the results on the pitch are positive. You have to look no further than the recent pickup of Mkhitaryan (albeit in a playing role) to see that Arsenal fans are more than willing to accept people with United connections. Phelan has also been away from United for such a time now that those connections are not quite as strong, as they once were either and was noted at being annoyed with United for not being given a role in the post Fergie era setup (which in my opinion, was one of Moyes's biggest errors).
You mention Steve Bould would be demoted to defense coach. With Per Mertesacker joining the coaching team, is it necessary to have two people effectively in the same job? And also, do you think that Bould would remain at Arsenal?
I think in this specific case that it would be needed to have the two people doing the same role. With Mertesacker just retiring, this would be his first coaching role, and whilst I am sure he has the ability to do so well, I wouldn't want to risk throwing a coaching novice into such a crucial and high profile role on his own - you'd be setting him up to fail if you did it like that in my opinion, thus why I have partnered him with Bould.
And yes I do think Bould would remain at Arsenal. By all accounts he absolutely adores the club, and even though he is currently assistant manager, a great deal of his role is defence focused, so in some aspects it would be a rebranding of his current job. I also think it would benefit him to have someone new to work with on the defensive aspects of the game, because his current methods have not fully reaped rewards yet.

No problem, Trebs, my dear hombre
How would you go about convincing the likes of Ryan Sessengnon and James Maddison that they should be coming to Arsenal, rather than a mid-table Premier League club where they will be guaranteed gametime? And following on from that, while I accept they are decent bets for the future, are they good enough to come off the bench and change a game now.
That is something I considered greatly when selecting them, but what we offer is both a good amount of gametime, they won't be sat on the bench week in week out, they will be playing many cup games and in Europe, along with Premier League appearances - as well as the chance to work and develop under some of the best coaches at some of the best facilities in the country. We also offer them a style of football which suits their style of play - would they really want to go and play in a negatively minded side like an Everton, or a Stoke, where they spend most of their time without the ball, looking to defend? Personally I wouldn't. Finally, they get to learn from some great players at Arsenal too - to work with Ozil day in day out would be great for someone like Maddison's development.
As for the here and now, I 100% believe they can come on and change a game in the Premier League. For me, they are two of the top 5 players in the Championship currently, and have both demonstrated this season they are easily above that level. They'd both be raring to go at the opportunity to play at the higher level, and there may be the odd teething pain, they both have the talent to impact games greatly. Particularly Sessegnon with his pace, and Maddison with his set piece ability.
You have brought in plenty of decent young players, but do you think a bit more experience in the squad would have been wiser?
Personally I think this Arsenal squad has a lot of experience in it already, players who have played many internationals, at the biggest clubs, in the Champions League etc - guys like Ozil, Aubameyang, Koscielny, Monreal, Ramsey, Mkhitaryan are all examples of this. What Arsenal's squad needed in my view was not more experience, but an injection of really talented youth players to compliment these talents, both in the first XI and on the bench/in reserve - some players like Tah and Diawara already have great experience in big leagues across Europe already, and even with those who don't they will bring good competition to the squad. I always think an experienced player is worried more about a young talent coming in and taking their slot for a long period, than they are a fellow experienced pro, and should up their game accordingly.
How would you ensure that Jack Wilshere remains at the club when it doesn't appear that he's first choice? Also, is it time we cut our losses on Alexandre Lacazette?
We would ensure that Jack stays at the club because although he isn't in the first XI, as I have mentioned with Maddison/Sessegnon, he will still get plenty of games, and with Aaron Ramsey's injury history, that will only be enhanced too. We would also play on the pull of playing a long career with the club he loves, the chance for him to play at Arsenal for another five years and write himself into Arsenal folklore would be a big pull for him.
Regarding Lacazette, we believe he would flourish under this new style of play post Wenger. At the moment he is constantly up against teams that are set after Arsenal have played around with the ball for five minutes, and as such he has little space to play in. In this new style of play, the attack is going to be quicker, more incisive, and that will suit him down to a tee.

Personally I think Arsenal need a lot more than a centre back and a defensive midfielder. The depth of their squad at the moment is absolutely shocking, especially in the attacking midfield and midfield areas. Whilst obviously they needed improvements at the back, we felt that the issues ran beyond getting one or two players in.
I am still unconvinced that those two players are the ones to snatch a late equaliser in a big game, or find the winner against a Stoke. But we shall move on. I would like to finish by asking about your targets and the future.

Without wishing to labour the point, I think you only have to look at the impact someone like Dele Alli or Marcus Rashford made to see that these massively talented young English players do have something to offer right away - and in Alli’s case he was way more unproven that Maddison/Sessegnon
I intend to stay as Arsenal boss for as long as Wenger/Ferguson did at Arsenal/United - for me Arsenal have the potential to be a real European powerhouse, a huge fan base, a wealthy owner, lovely facilities and an amazing ground - they just need to get the on field product right and they’re setup for success for a long long time.
Do I think we could win the Premier League in the 2018/19 season? No. Realistically it would take everything to go our way, competing across so many fronts whilst installing a new style of play would make it tough to really challenge to City’s/Utd’s of the world - our aim for 18/19 season would be to regain our top 4 berth and win a cup competition
And regarding the high quality attacking football, I think that is what every side should aim to be doing, especially Arsenal who’s fans are let’s face it quite highly strung! Not only do I think it’s the best way to win football matches, but you need to put bums on seats, make people watch you on TV across the globe, to help secure sponsors and investors. You ain’t getting no sponsorship deal over Barcelona/Man City etc if you setup to grind out a 1-0 every game

Steve Bould has been involved with Arsenal for the last six years. Do you think that it is a mistake to not have him, or any of the other coaches as part of the current set-up. I would argue that this provides both continuity, and adds some experience. I'm sure Patrick Vieira would be a popular choice, but perhaps lacks that experience.
You make no mention of the Youth set-up at Arsenal in your presentation. Would you leave it as it is currently?

I never said specifically whether or not I would retain any of Arsene Wenger's backroom staff, just that I would be bringing in additional ex players to help with the coaching. Everyone will stay on, every physiotherapist, fitness coach, doctor, kitman, analyst, nutritionist, sports scientist, academy staff and everyone involved with the Arsenal Ladies side would be kept on. Everyone down to the tea lady. It is my firm belief that the issues at Arsenal FC are caused by Arsene Wenger and Stan Kroenke. When Arsene leaves, a new manager can make a lot of differences but it would definitely be detrimental to the side to just gut the club from the inside out.
Maybe it was seen as an oversight on my part for not mentioning it, but there is very little wrong with the Arsenal youth setup, and I am definitely of the opinion that I would leave it as it is. Bringing back ex players to help the youth coaches would definitely provide inspiration for the next generation of Arsenal players as well, but the ex players wouldn't be replacing the current academy coaching.
Specifically referencing Steve Bould, he would continue as a first team coach, and eventually be Patrick Vieira's assistant. If there was that much of an issue, Steve Bould would be offered the managers role, but realistically not everybody can be a manager.
Thanks for your answer. My concern is by adding more people to the coaching staff, you will end up with an oversized backroom team. However, I would like to move on to look at the squad you have proposed.

There is no doubt that Koke is a talented player. However, is a £120m fee excessive and should we looking at someone even better or with Premier League experience if we are spending that kind of fee?

With respect, Monreal and Ramsey aren't guaranteed first choice players anyway. They would still be key figures in the squad, as I said, with at least 50 games in a season if we have reasonable success in all competitions, we need to have two players in every position, and Monreal and Ramsey are both one of the two in their position. Monreal is already competing with Kolasinac for the LB position and I've not changed that. Ramsey would be backup to someone who's a better player in Koke, and the onus is on Ramsey to fight his way into first choice, by performing in the matches he'll need to play across the season.
I massively disagree with anyone who thinks Arsenal should cut their losses on Lacazette, he's a proven goalscorer from his time at Lyon, he's 6 months into his time at a new club in a new league, and cost a lot of money, there is no reason at all why we would get rid of him just because he's not hit the ground running. He and Aubameyang, either alternating, or as a partnership, will be key to Arsenal's success next season.
Regarding Koke, I'd argue that a £120m fee "was" excessive, but because of the inflated transfer fees I believe that is the going rate, when someone like Kylian Mbappe is moving for £170m, it's a reflection of the market. Also, when you say "someone even better or with Premier League experience", Koke is legitimately one of the world's best in his position, and while he doesn't have any Premier League experience (only La Liga and Champions League experience...), I don't believe there is anybody who is better than him available, the likes of Kroos, Thiago Alcantara, Rakitic wouldn't be sold by their clubs, but Atletico Madrid are a lot more likely to sell a key player based on history. And if you looked at the other players in his position who are already in the Premier League, who are at that elite level, the likes of Gundogan, Pogba, Fabregas, they already play for a rival club who would not allow their player to move to Arsenal whatever the fee.
I agree to an extent that Arsenal would be sorted with leadership and steel, and in those key areas. They are definitely lacking, which is why I've addressed this with the signings of Skriniar and Weigl, but to say we are sorted with that alone, when our rivals have superior midfields to Ramsey and Wilshere, is naive in my opinion. Which is why Koke and Emre Can were brought in, because those two would bring our midfield up to the level of, and maybe even beyond, the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea. And give us the platform to win major trophies, which is ultimately our ambition.

I am pleased that you have suggested a timeframe of 3-5 years to stabilise the club and have put thought into a successor.
However, you have not identified any priorities. Which competitions would be the focus for you?

I did prioritise the Premier League in my presentation, as our main target, and once the Premier League has been won, the Champions League would be our next target. I wouldn't be against FA Cup and League Cup successes but recent years have shown that the Arsenal fans are not content with domestic cups. They want major titles.
I do believe my side can win the Premier League in the first season, the core of the squad is already in place, with only my new signings needing to settle in. We should theoretically have the attack of Mkhitaryan, Ozil and Aubameyang firing right from game one.
I do accept that an Arsenal side should always be targetting maintaining the high-quality attacking football which many fans have enjoyed, I believe this is shown in the type of player we have signed, the likes of Koke, Weigl and Can are technically gifted as well as providing the strength and leadership required. Playing attractive football isn't enough though. We need to win titles at the same time. I believe we will do that.

Hello Fernando, welcome to the interview. Thank you for providing your submission on time.
I will cover three broad areas, each one with a couple of questions. First of all, I want to ask about your set-up and staffing.
I am very disappointed with your comments regarding this section. Do you rate the current staff highly, as there has not been much suggestion of bringing any fresh faces in?
Would it also be reasonable to suggest that you need to bring in a couple of people to show that you are your own man.

Over the last 12 months Arsenal have brought in a lot of new staff.
From Steve Bould as first team coach even under Arsene has brought new ideas including why we've been playing 3-4-3 as Arsene was adamant it wouldn't work for us
To Sven Misinlatat as head of recruitment one of the best scouts in world football
To Raul Sanllehí who is our new director of football who brought Neymar & Suarez to Barca
To Darren Burgress our new fitness coach one of the worlds leading coaches in that department
We already had Shad Forsythe in place as a head of fitness developement since 2014 who is amazing at his job.
Whilst it's always nice to bring in new staff i don't believe it's necessary all the staff have shown signs of their quality and the ones that are new need time to settle in.
It is one thing to think that new staff have been brought in and that they should be given a chance. However, I didn't see that in your presentation. In any case, I would like to move on to look at the squad you have proposed.
First of all, I am pleased you've decided to give contracts to Nelson and Ramsey. You have been very bold in your plan to cut the squad.
How would you ensure that Jack Wilshere remains at the club when it doesn't appear that he's first choice? Also, is it time we cut our losses on Alexandre Lacazette?
Do you think you should have picked a Premier League proven defender? And, do you think signing Marco Reus a gamble given his injury record?
A common criticism of Arsenal is that they need leadership and steel, with a centre back and a defensive midfielder and they would be sorted. Do you agree with this?
I believe if you offered Jack a contract he'd sign it regardless whether he was 1st choice or not he loves the club can see him being a one club guy like Gary Neville.
I don't think it would be right to offload Lacazette either, Just remember not signings hit the ground running it's much faster league then Ligue 1. Even Thierry Henry & Dennis Bergkamp struggled for his 1st season and everyone wondered why the hell we bought him.
It would of been nice to get a PL defender but i don't believe there is one available better then Manolas honestly even as much as i like Johnny Evans it wouldn't be an improvement. Realistically we'd be relying on cast offs of other top 6 clubs.
It's very much a gamble with Reus but with his talent i believe it's one worth taking it's also why i signed Fekir so if he gets injured then we have a quality replacement.
I wouldn't agree with that it's why i changed the goalkeeper and right back aswell which both needed upgrading aswell as much as i like Cech & Bellerin one is past his prime and one is awful at actual out and out defending. I believe our back 4 & GK now would be more structurally solid compared to what it has been

I accept you want to get top four, but don't think you can compete with the two Manchester clubs. But can you give a little more clarity on which competitions would be the focus for you?
How long do you intend on staying on as Arsenal boss?
Do you think your side can win the Premier League in 2018/19 season?

When we get back in the champions league we would focus on that unlike the PL it's mainly one games where a bit of luck will get you a long way. I believe targetting the FA Cup once we are further in the competition would be a good target too.
Aslong as im doing my job well enough for them to keep me on.
Realistically it will be hard to compete against the manchester clubs but with a pinch of luck like Leicester i don't see why we couldn't.
Whilst it's nice to play pretty football it's not always the best way to win games so there will be times when i have to sit in and counter rather then playing open expansive football.

Once we decide on what positions we want to target for improvement, I think we need 1 person to target upgrades to the 1st XI, 1 person to target quality depth and 1 person to look at sales, staff and youth upgrades

That's fine, but think there's overlap in first team and others. Personally I'd prefer to say an England scout and a Euro scout. Big Sam likes players with premier league experience so that should factor in heavily.

I think Euro scout gives a lot of responsibility, but agree that Big Sam would prefer Prem players

Not necessarily only younger players, just players we think could come in and be quality depth able to replace some of the players that we'd look to sell - work with Miky on this

Will do bam. Think we should get rid of the deadwood/players we don't need and add a bit more cashola to the budget first, then it can tie in with trebs and miky finding some good players that will help fill out our team.

Question 4 is crucial to have an answer to - because that particular target Nadz identified will be at least triple his TM value if it's real values.

Incoming players must be realistic.
How are you guys interpreting it? Does that player we're discussing need to be bought at his TM value or should we be using the fees banded about in real life for him

I assume if new players wages are to be included within the 250m budget, the wages saved on players we sell can be added to the budget? Yep you may add them to the budget
I also assume it is only 18 months worth of wages we should be including for new signings for our budget? Not necessarily as not many players will take an 18 month contract
