Wilder Vs Ortiz - Predictions?
This is really Wilder's first fight against anyone with a half-decent record really. Ortiz is a decent puncher and does actually have some ability - when he can be bothered. We all know Deontay is all about the big knockout and to hell with anything as basic as footwork and head movement - however what actually happens when he can't drop the bombs because his opponent can actually time him and slip the punches? Nobody knows.
Ortiz will have done one of 2 things: turn up for the payday, much like Stiverne recently, or he will actually be in a bit better shape than some of his previous fights. He has a pretty good amateur record, and whilst there's not too many names on his record either he did put Jennings down and out, something the master technician Wlad could not do.
I want to see what happens if Wilder's put under sustained pressure and cops a big punch. I think he's going to crack. Ortiz isn't a great by any means, but he's a southpaw, and can really bang. If he's not done the Stiverne thing I think he'll have trained his heart out for his first World Title effort and will have the nous to avoid Wilder's hayemakers. A tired, outfoxed and possibly bloodied Wilder is felled somewhere in or around round 7 for me.

Re: Wilder Vs Ortiz - Predictions?
I was thinking the same and the odds are inviting. Won a bit on Groves the other week and feel the odds in this one are worth a few quid too. I'm not a fan of Ortiz but he is the better boxer and can punch, even if he is a dinosaur. He sparred with Lewis so God know's how old he really is but he might just have enough boxing knowledge to nullify Wilders big right. A lot of questions around Brook this weekend too. His opponent is 10 to 1, can punch and is used to fighting at light middle. With Brook now having two broken eye sockets it feels worth a punt, although only at those odds.

Re: Wilder Vs Ortiz - Predictions?
As noted, Ortiz shows the mercurial nature of most Cuban heavyweight professionals, although better than most. Good amateur pedigree but lack of discipline and applications.
I assume his tactic will be to ride the first 2-4 round and then box and KO wilder.
Wilder obviously has a suspect chin, or his corner wouldn't have been overly protective of him. Although, I have to say, he has also improved along the way.
But, if Ortiz has prepared well (and avoids a big hand) for this I can see him winning.
It's a good night of boxing and I've agreed to go out!

Ortiz will crease Wilder. Ortiz was a standout amateur so unlike most of the bums Wilder has KO'd, Ortiz won't just stand there. Ortiz in 6

Ortiz looks in reasonable shape. So, looks like he's taken it seriously. Nowhere near as lean as wilder but not the tub of lard he's looked like in some of his other fights.

Re: Wilder Vs Ortiz - Predictions?
Personally I don't think this should be made, Ortiz has failed two drug tests in the last three years or so and should be be banned, if he was a sprinter at the Olympics people would be jumping all over this e.g. Justin Gatlin.
However sadly it is on and whilst not a big fan of Wilder I suspect his power will quickly diminish Ortiz's ambitions and not long thereafter end the fight. KO within 6 rounds.
Nice card at Sheffield tonight, hoping Brook has plenty left in the tank, not an easy fight imo. Yafai v McDonnell should be a good match.

Tougher tests ahead for Brook but faultless and just what he needed.
Ortiz too old and wrong attitude. Wilder on points or late ko for me. Won’t be staying up though so will watch in the morning. Hope it’s worth for the ones that do watch it live.

What a good night of boxing, so far! Only disappointment was the Allen fight.
Thoroughly enjoyed the brook and Taylor fights. Both looked impressive.
But highlights were the supports, Yafai v McDonnell and Easton v foot. Both thoroughly enjoyable, good matches.
Both Easton and Yafai will have learnt a lot. Well done to all 4 in those matches!

Re: Wilder Vs Ortiz - Predictions?
Fair to Wilder for getting the win, but Ortiz lack of fitness or age caught up with him at the end there after him being clearly the better fighter. I dont see Wilder lasting more than a couple of rounds with AJ.The idea Wilder was up on the cards is outrageous and tells you Ortiz could only win by KO no matter how well he fought.

Re: Wilder Vs Ortiz - Predictions?
Just watched it. Wilder did alright. We all knew Ortiz was the better boxer and Wilder was cautious which was the right thing to do. He did manage to get through before he had his own gut check and if he catches AJ like that he will stop him. Yes if Ortiz was younger he’d probably have won but Wilder got to him before he got tired. AJ isn’t the great technical boxer most say he is and if Wilder starts to make him miss AJ leaves himself open. AJ is favourite sure but I’m not writing Wilder off.

Re: Wilder Vs Ortiz - Predictions?
Brook looks comfortable when he's up against these eastern European bin men. Come forward plodders, Brook's power is vastly overrated. Aside from a retirement bout Khan, Brook get poleaxed by the elite guys at 154

Re: Wilder Vs Ortiz - Predictions?
I was impressed by Wilder's survival tactics when tagged. However if that had been 1 minute earlier in the round it would have been curtains. Kudos to Ortiz for bringing the fight to Wilder. Thankfully he was certainly no Stiverne.
Sets it all up for a mouthwatering fight with either of Joshua or Parker.

Re: Wilder Vs Ortiz - Predictions?
Wilder continues to learn, and all credit to him.
Ortiz shouldn't have let him off but then, maybe, Ortiz is just getting old.
Good win for wilder and showed he could take I punch.
Think AJ would handle both relatively easily. Wilder is no Klitschko.
