Well after being peer pressured into this, over on the general chat thread, here we go. The game of the season so far, Glasgow fresh from a terrible start to the campaign (from their point of view) up against an Edinburgh team, who flirted briefly with some attacking nous and have of late gone back to the prudish style they utilised for most of last season.

I'd say I have no idea how this game will go, but the most recent of these fixtures does suggest a clear winner, and that won't be rugby. Prepare for the most turgid game of rugby known to man, culminating in a win for the true heros of Scottish rugby...Edinburgh.

Well, holla you pampered jades of the east, enjoy your quails eggs and low sodium free range bacon rashers this morning...you won't feel like eating tomorrow after the thrashing your mincing knitwear models are about to receive this afternoon. Hope you choke on your Heston Bloomineck mince pies.

oh and a Merry Chrimbo. Hug

Mostly just poor discipline from both sides and Glasgow fans booing a lot. Neither side really deserving to win at the moment. Few injuries starting to rack up now sadly

Tense finish but the Weegies hold on. Fair play their defence was very good throughout and their pack did turn up and put in the better performance with a couple of huge counterrucks and the push over try. Bah humbug.

As I believe I mentioned earlier; Warriors front five well on top, Luvvies' back row made no impact with ball in hand, Ragnar had the Cobbler on toast all day long.

Poor Shug, your heart goes out to him: he played well, set up Aldi for a try and then over ran Blairhorn for the Luvvies consolation score. Then Battleship comes on and plays well.

Ragnar... what a player.

To be fair, Flounder, I thought your back three looked very dangerous but they were on starvation rations.
From a Scotland point of view Bradbury was worryingly ineffective and Batman had a greater impact on the game than Hamish.
Glasgow always looked to attack through the backs, but apart from the try the Luvvies never really looked to play with any ambition.

That's what I'm getting at Jimbo - in the big games we go into what we're comfortable with and so far it's not worked (see Munster QF).

We need to attack if we're going to get anywhere as a team!

Well managed to get home from work and watch the match without knowing the score, no mean achievement.

That was actually a cracking derby game, better than many over the past few years. Two tough old teams bashing it out, that was a proper really physical game.

Good to see Huw Jones finally showing us what he is all about, he actually had a really good all round game in attack as well as defence, hopefully he will be our starting 13 from here on in.

The game was won by the Glasgow pack, who I felt just had the edge. Fagerson, Gray and Cummings were just outstanding and are likely to be all starting for Scotland inn the 6N. If this was a trail match, they won hands down.

Some other good performances as well though, om both sides. Taylor and Graham were both good for Edinburgh, as were their whole back row.

Word of praise for Jackson as well though, who was really really solid at FB and took a few whacks for the cause. If this proves to be his last season, then he certainly is going down fighting!

It is all set up very nicely for next weekend now when the pressure will be squarely on Edinburgh to produce against a Glasgow side who look like they slowly might be re-discovering their mojo!

I wonder if Glasgow will rotate a lot next week. They've got a difficult game away to Treviso after then back into Champions Cup.

Those key players can't play 80 minutes every week!

The league games may be more important to us than the champs cup now to be honest, i can't see us easing up to much for next week.

Hastings and Zander in particular are going to have to sit one out sooner or later though and on current form, they will be very hard to replace.

Good to see Huw Jones finally showing us what he is all about, he actually had a really good all round game in attack as well as defence, hopefully he will be our starting 13 from here on in. Shug had a good match, but if you watch Blairhorn's try he could have trusted Jacko (?) as last man more and covered the cut back inside, instead he sold the jerseys. Nitpicking , I know. Grigg did well when he came on, he wants the 13 spot.

The game was won by the Glasgow pack, who I felt just had the edge. Fagerson, Gray and Cummings were just outstanding and are likely to be all starting for Scotland inn the 6N. If this was a trail match, they won hands down. Agreed, the Glasgow front five won their battle all ends up.

Some other good performances as well though, om both sides. Taylor and Graham were both good for Edinburgh, as were their whole back row. Erm I thought they were pretty ineffective, partly due to the ref's poor managinement of the breakdown but also because, apart from running back kicks the Glasgow back row were all over them like a rash and they were suffocated, frankly.

Word of praise for Jackson as well though, who was really really solid at FB and took a few whacks for the cause. If this proves to be his last season, then he certainly is going down fighting!

If yesterday was a Scotland trial, then this would have been the team I have chosen, assume all players are SQ for the purpose of this exercise:

1. Seuili
2. McInally
3. Fagerson Z
4. Cummings
5. Gray
6. Harley
7. Watson
8. Wilson
9. Price
10. Hastings
11. Graham
12. Taylor
13. Jones
14. Steyn
15. Kinghorn - though Jacko did also have a very solid game!

I did not pick Brown for Glasgow as his darts were a bit loose!

Jimbo was right in that Wilson and Harley were really up for the game and made a big mess of a lot of Edinburgh's ball. Mata had a few decent carries, but not back at last seasons form yet and Bradbury drifted in and out a bit.

Kinghorn gets in on the strength of his try, despite Jacko maybe having the better all round game and doing gather FB basics very well. VDM did not really manage to break free of a ferocious Glasgow defence!

Two other points from last night;

not sure Mata deserved a yellow Headscratch but the way the Luvvies were infringing during that phase of the attack you could see the ref had decided that someone was getting a yellow. I think he realised he'd got the wrong man and then penalised Glasgow at the scrum following in order to salve his conscience

and

I didn't really see it on screen but apparently Batman and Hamish had a bit of a stramash off the ball. if you look at the footage at the end of the match a smiling Batman shakes hands and says something to a stonefaced Hamish. Lip readers among you will spot Hamish's reply, "That's no funny." raspberry

The Warrior Nation have a new song, "Hamish has only got one baw....the other's in Ryan's paw"  laughing

Some amount of crowing from the west just now.

Let’s not forget that in true welsh style, you only won because the ref wanted to be centre of attention.

In all seriousness though, the reverse fixture will be different. Glasgow will be handed a spanking.

I’d bet Bru’s last stone on it

Sure.

Don’t waste your breath Flounder. There’s genuinely Glasgow supporters out there who think that Glasgow can compete with Edinburgh up front. There’s also some that think Glasgow can win the game.

Shoe will utterly school Ragnar in the scrum.

The Edinburgh 2nd row will feast on the lack of ball carrying from Glasgow’s 2nd row.

I fear that these games could put back Cummings development. He’s been coming on nicely but he’s going to be up against an effective pack here and it could dent his confidence.

I don’t think Edinburgh will spank Glasgow our in the Wild West, but we will win the game. Then an utter man shaming will be handed out at HQ

Mmm, some of these predictions don't seem to have aged very well!

It did seem like the pampered public schoolboys could not really live with the powderpuff Glasgow pack.

Who would have predicted that?

A few of the unwashed ones keep saying hes going to Glasgow but theres nothing from the official channels.

I can understand why Graham would want a move as he'll want top flight rugby to give him a shot at international honours.

Glasgow would actually be a good move for him as they will need a 7 with Gibbons rumoured to be leaving at the end of the year. He'd also have a shot at the 6 jersey with Rob Harley not able to play every game (and he sometimes pops into the 2nd row)

Has anyone heard if Bradbury has been cited for his totally unacceptable assault on poor, innocent, defenceless Tommy Seymour?

Stats make interesting reading. would you believe Hickey had more of the ball than Haircut? Edinburgh backs made more metres than Glasgow backs? Edinburgh backs didn't miss a single tackle nor did Ickle Jonny ( 23)

What those stats show to me is that Glasgow had quicker ball to work with that the Edinburgh backline.

Edinburgh just looked a far better team when piecrust and Hickey went off. I’ll leave it to the backs on this forum to say which one coming off made the bigger difference.

Jesus wept. Just watched the highlights of Leicester vs Exeter and Taufua just obliterated Stuart Hogg to go over for a try

So, who is going to be running out at Murrayfield for the second leg this Saturday.

A bit of a quandry for DR, as he needs to win this game, but also needs to rotate a little bit under the SRU protocols for internationals and he still has three more games tough games coming up. Gray, Hastings and Zander in particular are all going to need a rest at some stage in the not to distant future. Will he give them that this weekend?

Europe looks like a little bit of a lost cause now and you really do fancy that he should probably prioritise the league, but then again, we are not mathematically out yet and if we were to win our home game against Exeter, could still go through with 4 wins. It would not be good for the fans or moral generally if we put out a weakened team for a home game v Exeter.

I suspect then, that we go pretty much full strength this weekend and a few will sit out the trip to Italy the following week and we might see something like this:

1. Seuili - a toss up between him and Keeble, but we have 2 good LH options now
2. Turner - seems crazy to risk Brown, even if he is over his concussion, give the week off
3. Fagerson Z -a would rather he did not play the full 80 mins again though
4. Gray
5. Cummings
6. Harley
7. Gibbins - best game for a long time last weekend
8. Wilson
9. Price - I think we will see a lot of rotation now
10. Hastings
11. Niko - I am not sure Tommy S will be fit as he took a clattering
12. Johnson
13. Jones - surely he will get a run now?
14. Steyn
15. Jackson - he had a very solid game last week, again, best in a long time

Subs:

Keeble
Stewart or maybe the new Fijian guy
Nicol - badly needs some game time, won't do anything for confidence spending 80 mins on bench
Ashe - a better cameo last week than recently
Gordon
Horne G
Grigg
DTH/Tagive/Nairn (whichever back three is fit) Lee Jones also played in Super 6 last weekend

Sides out. Could be another close contest depending on which glasgow shows up and whether Edinburgh backs are allowed to play and if they are, ignore Hodge tactics of run at the line for 20 minutes
