Scotland Women RWC Thread
Pool A
Sco vs Wales 09/10/22 KO 05:45GMT on ITV S4C
Sco vs Aus 15/10/22 KO 03:00GMT on ITV
Sco vs NZ 22/10/22 KO 04:45GMT on ITV
Scotland Team for Wales
Scotland: Chloe Rollie; Rhona Lloyd, Hannah Smith, Lisa Thomson, Megan Gaffney; Helen Nelson, Caity Mattinson; Molly Wright, Lana Skeldon, Christine Belisle, Emma Wassell, Sarah Bonar, Rachel Malcolm (capt), Louise McMillan, Jade Konkel
Replacements: Jodie Rettie, Leah Bartlett, Elliann Clarke, Lyndsay O'Donnell, Eilidh Sinclair, Mairi McDonald, Meryl Smith, Shona Campbell.
Some early starts but a must win for Scotland women straight up against Wales. Scotland and Wales are quite evenly matched so this could be a really great watch. Some familiar faces in the Scotland side that agonisingly let it slip away against Wales in the 6N so this will be a chance to avenge that loss in front of a buoyant NZ crowd in Whangarei.

Gréât half of rugby from the ladies. Welsh backs are doing very well in attack but they’re also giving away a lot of penalties. If Scotland can have more sustained periods of pressure in the 2nd half Wales will surely be getting a player sent to the bin.
0/3 from the kicking tee has hurt Scotland but the wind is making pretty difficult. The pack are getting a lot of go forward ball and making some great turnovers aw well. Driving maul seems to be Scotland’s best weapon.

Do they still have the fly-half kicking for the posts but not for touch? Thought that was odd in the 6N.bsando wrote:0/3 from the kicking tee has hurt Scotland but the wind is making pretty difficult

Miraculously no yellow for Wales after multiple pens on their own line. Strong defence holds out Scotland but they now need to get the ball out their 22 from a try line scrum.
This is the game - if Scotland get a try from all this it's game on. Or if Wales can exit cleanly the should go on to close it out.

Yep it’s a bit ridiculous now. The ref is far too casual with the players as well. Lay the law!

Lisa Thomson has been kicking to touch and then the fly half for points so yes that’s right. Must be some reason behind it but not sure what. Not been a good day for goal Kicking today.

Finally a yellow, and finally a try!
Winger could have made the kick a bit easier...

Yeah that was coming, great work for that try. But shame to concede so much territory after the restart. Awesome tackle by thomson to save the day though. Still in it

Scotland score at the death! Hard kick is missed again - all 4 kicks at goal missed. 15 all - last phase to play

Will be a shame if Wales win but they did well in the first half to get their tries. 15 all would have been a fair result.

Wow yeah what a shame. They did really well in that second half. Loads of positives for them.

Also, shame to see the Scottish curse of not being able to take restarts.has made its way into the women's game too.

It really is strange, because frankly neither of them look convincing enough to be considered specialists. Don't understand why they don't just pick one and back her.bsando wrote:Lisa Thomson has been kicking to touch and then the fly half for points so yes that’s right. Does any one know if the SRU will be giving the scotland women full time contracts any time soon( may be before the next 6 nations?)

SRU has announced funding for 30 players
Back in June, Scottish Rugby announced it will be handing out contracts to at least 30 players post-World Cup as part of a four-year strategy to grow the game.
Two new semi-professional teams will be created, with the idea of them playing in a cross-border tournament. The aim is to increase the number of girls and women playing the sport

Re: Scotland Women RWC Thread
Another narrow Scotland defeat! Incredible again that they had a chance to win in the first place against a team like Australia, but very disappointing that we let another slip.
One thing that stood out for me was just how bad our kicking is. We got a penalty in our 22 right at the death and our kick to touch literally gained 2m. We then got another penalty just outside our 22 and the kick was almost worse. We desperately needed to get into the Australia half but instead had to play out from our own 22!

Just watched highlights and aus put in some shocking tackles! Shame it was too late to influence the game but that has to be some kind of record to win a match while receiving two red cards.
I’m very surprised by how tight Scotland have been at set piece. They have a great pack it seems but lack the backline talent to compete with some of the better sides. Really promising signs though! Sad they lost this one.

Yeah the pack looks like it can compete but our backs have no attacking threat at all really.

Unfortunately it just seems they can be summed up as 'team with two kickers, neither of whom can kick'. Recipe for frustration.RDW wrote:One thing that stood out for me was just how bad our kicking is.

Will both the Aussie hookers be banned now for the game against Wales?

Only one, who got the straight red, she got 3 games
The other, no ban as was 2 x YC and not dsngerous play

The 2nd one surprised me - it was a shoulder to the head with force! The ref said there was a dip in level but not that much...

Not a surprise, but this is a very not good matchup for this team.

Re: Scotland Women RWC Thread
Scots blown away in first half by NZ but a much better second half showing. Few chances but had they been a bit more careful with theur one attacking lineout they might have got on the board. NZ was a massive step up in intensity and physicality!

Really put to the sword by a NZ side that never looked like losing.
