Re: 2022 T20 World Cup thread
It feels certainly a fair bit under par, but it is a chase to win a world cup against some great strike bowlers.
Pakistan have to bowl England out youd think. If Hales and Jos bat for a while there won't be much of a total left

Clinical from Eng so far.
They plan well and today could execute perfectly.
PAK did not have a Pandya /Kohli to get break them free in last 10 like India did.
On paper should be a cake walk for Eng from here
Cricket though is played in mind and not on paper
PAK will need early wickets

Re: 2022 T20 World Cup thread
137/8.
Take a bow, England, that was an amazing 20 overs. Curran and Rashid world-class. Full credit to Jordan who has come into two knockout games, having not expected to play, and delivered. No Pakistan batsman made a big score, that's been a theme through the tournament, and whenever Pakistan seemed to be getting ahead, England would strike with timely breakthroughs.
Fielding was good, not great, few errors in there, but not too costly. Pakistan ran well between the wickets.
I'd like to say everything's OK, but there's a bit of rain on the radar...if it gets rained off tonight, do they start over again tomorrow?
Presuming they play on, Pakistan are going to need their match-winners to deliver. Shaheen should get some swing and Shadab will like the surface, but they'll need other bowlers to step up to defend this.

As I understand it, yes Pakistan have now had their innings and won't get a second chance if 10 overs aren't possible today. We would resume tomorrow wherever England are in their chase.
Where I'm unclear is what happens if we lose time, come out and England get an adjusted DLS target. Presumably that target stands tomorrow?

Perhaps Pakistan don't need to take all ten wickets - but you'd think they need to take several fairly early to get back into this. They have some very good bowlers though so I'm taking nothing for granted...
Would kill for another fifty plus opening stand now.

Well you knew that would happen as soon as the commentators started rabbiting on about Pakistan looking flat and needing a lift

Crackerjack from Shaheen. Just what Pakistan needed from their main man.
One of the bad things about Buttler and Hales' opening stand v India is that it means none of the rest of the batting order have had a bat in at least a week.

Not liking the look of this rain...
Might need to keep an eye on the DLS figures .
Buttler away brightly. Would like to see Afridi off after this quick start.

What was thr need for salt to play that?
Eng need to check their adrenalin rush...that carried their batting against India
The target is modest....doable in one's and twos

Have to say I didn't think Salt would last long... Do think Malan would have a far better fit tonight but guess he just wasn't ready , unfortunately.

Shame for Salt, his ball-striking was excellent on a few of those.
Two down, time for Stokes to steady the ship with his old mucker Buttler. Together again in a world final.

I agree. In fact I'd have had Stokes in at three rather than Salt ; but I guess England thought a quick thirty from Salt might settle the issue...after the Ireland game , they seem to have settled on a variant of Bazball...

England maybe a little bit guilty of playing the occasion more than the game so far, Salt looked a bit skittish to say the least.
Pakistan fired up now, two batsmen who have been here before in. Might be the game right here

Would have kept Shaheen on for his third over, but Naseem's getting some good movement. He can be a bit wild though...and after a good first nut, the second goes for five wides.
This is really reckless and intense from Pakistan.

Intense , yes...but Naseem has beaten Jos outside off three times. His wicket is a prize worth taking a bit of risk for , no ?
Think they've figured if they don't get wickets (especially that of Buttler) quickly , they are gone...

Re: 2022 T20 World Cup thread
Buttler is just different class. Shot of the tournament when you consider the two previous balls. Outstanding.
England should absolutely keep attacking. It's how they win games, since 2015. Plus they bat to 11. So turn it up to 11.

But it's Rauf who has found Buttler's edge...45/3 and this game is wide open now. Can't say I'm surprised , ball is doing plenty.
Keep attacking ? Well keep busy , yes...but I honestly don't think you can go too silly against these bowlers , in these conditions. Need to keep their heads on straight...

Shadab Khan time. He's had a good tournament, but NZ handled him (0/33) pretty comfortably.

Re: 2022 T20 World Cup thread
Pakistan have fallen into the post-PowerPlay trap, in that they've moved fielders out of the circle just because they could, not because they needed to, and Brook and Stokes have just been able to tick over for the last couple of overs without much effort.
Liked how Brook's going about it. Using his feet well, though he's just taken a knock.

Re: 2022 T20 World Cup thread
Only need just over run a ball. Really don't need to be taking daft risks , do they ? I get the "attack , it's what we do " thing... But perhaps a bit of discretion might be in order for the next few overs , with three down already ?

Yes he's used his feet well... Just every now and then he seems to get a bit more ...adventurous ...than he probably needs to. Think he can score at a good rate with fairly normal shots .

Yay, no reserve day required.
Agree. Pakistan need to bring Shaheen back and bowl him in the 11th and 13th overs, if he can get a couple of wickets (or more) he gets Pakistan back in with a shout. Shadab hasn't quite got his lengths right yet. They also need to bring the field up because England are just milking the singles.

Great fielding by Rauf on the boundary ...one run saved by a terrific dive . Pakistan really giving it everything...
Naseem really gets movement , eh ? No wonder they keep thinking he's tickled the edge. Umpires doing well

Brook gone now...this game remains in the balance , after a couple of quiet overs and another batsman unable to really go on...
Pakistan still have some good bowling options for the late overs...that's if injuries haven't messed them up.
Need 51 off seven. So RRR has gone out a bit since the break. Here comes Naseem...and nearly a run out...

Good three overs from Pakistan since drinks, but just the one wicket and the rate still isn't a problem for England.
Pakistan still have 12 balls left from their fifth bowler - if Shaheen can't continue that goes to 24 from a fifth/sixth option.
Eek, nearly a runout!

Timely boundary from Stokes. We can all just relax - England have got batting in hand, Pakistan have 12 balls to come from their fifth bowler, and Shaheen is hampered by injury.
Unless it goes all 2013 Champions Trophy, England have got this. Here's Shaheen...

Important boundary then...England at the moment are missing with too many of their "big" shots...
Would have liked to see more singles recently.
Afridi now ...if he can ? A very important over in more ways than one...
