Mardy Fish, who turns 30 in a month, reached his career high ranking of #7, joining fellow veterans Roger Federer (#3 at 30) and David Ferrer (#6 at 29) at the top table of the game. Fish, who was so disheartened at his inability to compete at the top level earlier in his career that he ate himself to Nalbandian-esque levels of rotundity, has grasped the opportunity presented by the relative lack of depth in the current mens game to launch himself into a true Indian Summer career.

I hope other members will join me in congratulating Mardy on his tremendous success.

Are there any precedents for such a venerable top 7?

Could it be that Mardy was on the same diet as Novak!

He certainly demolished DavyD without much trouble.

Maybe Nickolay should give it a try.

Well done Mardy but probably a bit late in life to hit the dizzy heights!

If Davy goes on a strict diet he may have to start shopping for clothes in the children's section of the store. One guy who doesn't need a diet is Davy.

Mardy has been the second hottest player so far this hardcourt season. Win in Atlanta, finals in LA and Montreal. He was always a more talented player than Roddick, he lacked Roddick's fire and commitment to the game before. His weight not only hampered his movement, but also caused him to suffer many injuries as his body was just to heavy too make it through an entire tennis season without breaking down. Always a very talented underachiever who seems to have worked out the formula later for success later in life. I think it has a lot to do with his super hot new wife Stacy. She has to be my favorite wag right now, Tipsy's wife is pretty awesome looking to. It comes down to the power of Stacy, she even got him to start wearing socks.

True but he then may become invisible and that would certainly give his opponents a problem Laugh

Lets not forget that tennis geriatrics such as Melzer, Youzhny and roddick have all been in the top ten over the last 12 months.

Only in the golden era could this be possible.

Indeed, it's heartening to see these guys getting an unexpected second chance at the top.

It's a terriffic time for tennis; in any previous period a player virtually always had to get it done early, but now they can take a year or two off with injuries, whatever, and come back looking better than ever!

Yes golden oldie era with 3 of the top 4 players in the world being 25 and under. Fish lost 30 pounds if he lost 30 pounds 5 years ago he would have had even more success. When Roger reaches number #1 in the world in 2014 like Andre did in the scrubby era then you guys might be onto something. Still licking your wounds I see from having your lack of logic destroyed in all the other weak era threads.

What a shame to see a celebration thread invades by ab Djokovic fanatic pursuing his single-minded agenda.

Did you never ask yourself why Mardy was so despondent in the mid 2000's about singles success that he didn't push himself? No, instead you revert to utter speculation again, and dress it up as something more than wild opinion.

I deal in irrefutable facts; this is unquestionably the Golden Oldie Era.

Good post. I like the way Mardy plays. He seems to have variety in his game and come to net more than any other top player.
Other day Tsonga was talking about the era getting stronger and how acuurate was he Smile

cmon Socal.

The reason that Agassi was able to compete so well at 35, is mainly to the fact that he didn't have as many career matches under his belt, due to not competing as well as Sampras and Fed have consistently. He only had 8 slam titles and only once did he win more than 1 slam in a season.

Doesn't even compare.

Ridiculing Fish wasn't a great idea. The guy has really picked up his play recently and the only player on an upward curve other than Djoker.

Mardy Fish i'm disappointed. You lost a whole 7 games to this Nadal.

No excuses Mardy, that was not good enough steam
