Favourite Punch
Hey Guys
I'm having one of the boring days at work ever, I know there are some people who box/spar/compete on here so i thought i'd ask the question. What is everyones favourite punch they like to throw or have more sucess with?
Obviously i'll start with mine, i've been boxing about a year now have over the last few months i've been allowed to venture into the squared circle for some sparring although at the minute i'd say my record is about 1-4(4)-0 not very good to say the least, i'm right handed but fight out of the southpaw stance as it's how i feel more comfortable, the punch or punches that i find the most satisfying to throw are short rights to the body or short right hooks to the head with the former actually dropping someone, which only served to fire him up with devestating consequences
Over to you guys

Re: Favourite Punch
Straight right hand for me mate, although i love to throw straight right/left uppercut/straight right and straight right/left hook/straight right, the jab will always be the most important though.

Jumping, spinning, leg-breaking, off-cutting, reverse spinning, screw shotting, slicing, double-fisted fist pumping punch
KO every time baby.

Don't know about favourite, but my least favourite was the un-gloved overhand right that I gave my newly installed heavy bag which resulted in a broken fifth metacarpal.

Got a punchbag hung up in the garage (no-one knows she's there) but my favourite shot is the right hook.

Re: Favourite Punch
I remember that, hilarious. You come on asking for advice about your bag and come back like two days later with a broken hand.Union Cane wrote:Don't know about favourite, but my least favourite was the un-gloved overhand right that I gave my newly installed heavy bag which resulted in a broken fifth metacarpal.
Straight right btw.

E Honda's 100 hand slap is pretty devestating, not even sweet pea to dodge that

Ducking left hook a la Tyson. Managed to counter some one in a kickboxing competition with it, though not quite as Tyson-esque. You can generate so much power with it!

Agree that the hundred hand slap is a formidable weapon, and that E.Honda was the master of this but not sure it counts as a punch. Perhaps it would fall under favourite combination?

Re: Favourite Punch
Not sure what my favourite punch is, but I did land an awesome headbutt on this obnoxious American in a bar in earlier this year.
He did unload on me and duff me up, but in my defense, I was off my head on acid at the time.

I heard that JC has a 100 slap punch too

I'll never forget watching a slow motion replay of JC vs Hopkins when he's doing his Honda impression with a venomous look on his face but with no actual damage being done......priceless

The helicopter punch is my favourite.
Extend your arms and make two fists and spin around wildly. Gets them all the time!

genius.
Given that I have had all of 1 boxing training sessions, I'd have to go with the jab

quality I might try that next time, if anything it might just bamboozle the other for just enough time for me to get a sneaky punch in

You do realise I was joking Balti? It was an homage to Truss and a previous thread.

I did have my suspicions, yes. I'm not sure if women and kids count. Kids don't put up much of a fight and women...well do they count as proper people..?

Re: Favourite Punch
My favorite punch combo of all time would have to be the Birdseyepotatowaffle punch followed by a short but powerful Donkey punch to the back of the neck.

Re: Favourite Punch
It was always the jab for me. I switched to southpaw just to get more snap in my jab because my left hand was pathetic. My main problem apart from being void of any talent was I was far too predictable I threw far to many right hands.

Same reason i switched as you Kev, how long did it take you to be able to throw the left hand with any real venom?

Re: Favourite Punch
Never really managed it mate.
I gave it up after twenty odd fights and a couple of very sore early nights. I tried to move around a lot and kept my hands quite low because that was the way I wanted to fight but it never really suited me.
I haven't done it in 6 years now. I keep thinking of trying it again but I'm well out of shape and not sure I could find the time to commit to training properly.

Re: Favourite Punch
I tried to keep my hands low like i was the second coming of Ali but a couple of real hard rights soon stopped that, its well and good keeping them low but when youre as slow as a tortoise i kind of defeats the object,
It took me at least 7 months to get my left anywhere near decent enough but the only way i can measure it is with them arcade punch balls which i don't think are entirely accurate
