rofl Simon???? get's broke back by the worst returner in top 100
And Murray breaks serve for a 3rd time in this set, poor Don.

Murray gets some first serves in, and as a consequence holds. See how easy that was Andy?

Isner wins the tiebreaker. Slap for Simon too!
Murray decides he might actually hold serve.

On the basis of what I'm seeing here Djokovic must be phoning home to get his Mum to clear a space for the trophy.
Federer just might have surprised him on a good day, but having to do it immediately after Tsonga (when Nole will have had a Serbian Stroll) is not on.

Just a rank awful day of tennis it seems. Young likes DFing on break points. Simon just can't string a point together and Muller has decided to give the game up before the rain comes.

Now that Young has played Murray's 'get out of jail card free' for him, let's hope that Murray speeds off with the final set and gets himself inside and out of the rain

Pretty rubbish, isn't it.
Murray just needs to get balls in play and first serves in court. Don't have to be big, just get it in and Young will gift him the match.
Really disappointed in Young. Wondering how the hell he beat Wawrinka and Chela!

Isner must've improved from earlier this year.. first set to him.
Murray got this win now, his serving is still quite poor though anyone in the top 20 will be licking their lips at this weakness..

I'm being reminded why Muller has lost more singles matches than he's won in his career.

Roddick vs. Ferrer has now been suspended for more than 1hr - surely they've got to be getting an outside Court ready for them? I know that there are spectators and all that, but they are there to watch a "Tennis Championship" and the schedule is way too far gone to muck around waiting for this problem to resolve itself if the farce isn't going to get worse.

What a loob by Nadal to have the break, Muller can only smile at it. At least he will have some showing to do weather permitting tomorrow.

Ferrer-Roddick should be moved to another court.
The other guys look like they may finish their matches.
If the rain comes again Ferrer-Roddick will be at a huge disadvantage.

Murray is pushing like a woman in labour with almost half the number of winners than little Donny, bad for the game.

Re: USO day 11 08/09
The WSJ blog on events at Louis Armstrong:
Brian Earley, the tournament referee, later joined the group and began stomping on the court and then toweling off the water that bubbled up.
“It seems to be getting less and less, so keep working on it,” he said. “Just keep doing what I’m doing here. I don’t think it’s a bottomless pit there.”
Water was bubbling up when you stepped on it, so they stomp and dry to drain it off and, apparently, the players are out now. If it works I guess kudos to Earley for offering a simple solution and sticking to it - but what a major embarrassment for the USTA.

Another break. Bizarre match.
Roddick and Ferrer off court again as crack in court still leaking water. Ref tries to claim its ok, Roddick furiously disagreeing.
"Why did you bring me out? Did you think I wouldn't notice it's still leaking water? I'm baffled at this!"

Re: USO day 11 08/09
So, let's get this straight:
* No covers on the Court
* When 'play' resumes one end of the Court seems to be filled with under-surface water after rain
* We are desperately behind on the schedule - the Roddick Ferrer match just has to be finished ASAP to preserve the integrity of the draw because the other R16 matches are progressing more or less satisfactorily
* Let's pop out with a towel for a precious hour and a half of play-time to see what happens
* Only after that is not satisfactory do we try a new Court.
* Let's not forget - Roddick is the last American to win a Slam, Ferrer is the No. 5 seed and beat Nadal at an HC slam, these aren't A'holes
It's amazing - get them playing, at least there are later matches scheduled for Armstrong when you might have a chance to get it right.

Grand Sham !
Break point Murray... Taken.
Match over. All he has to do is hold, which he's had no problem doing all match!

Murray through in straights in a strange match.
Serve wasn't great, but a quick match was essential and he's done it.

Murray through in what was to be honest a pretty poor quality match. Murray didn't serve well, but you got the feeling he knew he could break Young at will so wasn't particularly bothered about it, cruised through in second gear in less than two hours, job very much done!

Quite surprised by the Rod-Fer match.
Thought Fer would grind through quite comfortably. But he doesn't appear to be playing well.

Roddick's FH has completely lost it's pop. He used to have a huge FH around 2003.

Roddick seems to be on the zone this tournament, not even got tested in any set yet! He has the weapons to slap Nadal silly next round but does he have the balls and focus???

I have Nadal as extremely strong favourite vs. Roddick if that should be the QF.
I have Nadal favourite vs. Murray should that be the SF too - but Murray seems to have been getting closer to him in the last two SF's and USO is a better surface for him.
Nadal's greatest struggle may be with the organisers lobbying for 1st SF, if he wins that one I fancy his chances against the winner of what I would expect to be a Djoko vs. Fed sluggfest. If he gets the 2nd SF I have the other finalist as the favourite.

Re: USO day 11 08/09
yea, right about the semi's Murray will not have a chance with his easy serving and wayward forehands, Roddick hasn't played Nadal in a slam for years though, could be a tight one, saying that Ferrer just broke him in the 3rd set.
Murray has had some fortune up to now with the draw, he got Young when he could easily have met either Chela or Wawrinka, should be able to get past Isner or Simon quite easily.

Re: USO day 11 08/09
Agree Barry about Nadal-Roddick.
Nadal will just block a lot of serves; once they get into a baseline rally Nadal will take control of the point.
Roddick could bother Nadal in the past because of his serve (which rafa doesn't seem to have a good read on) and his big FH. The latter, however, is no longer the weapon it used to be.
Ferrer is a tougher opponent because of his grinding style, and he can rally with Nadal from the baseline. Unfortunately, if he does make it back to win this match, he'll probably be gassed for the quater final tomorrow.

Nice to see Serena actually pushed.
Isner a break up in 4th.
Ferrer a break up in the 3rd.
