Should there be the possibility for more cards to be entered for high handicappers and less for low handicapper?

Who was it that ran this last year? Is it being done again this year?

I didn't play last year due to injury but I'd be up for it this year

Was it OS or OP that was the officiator of this last year with JD prevailing.

Sounds like a good plan, maybe less than the 8 rounds of last time as many struggled to complete them but i'd be up for it indeed.

Guess the first thing to do is get a volunteer to run it and set the rules..

then get a list of players, we can get a sticky up and chart how well the leader board is going.

OldShanker ran the show.

Last year between November 15(?) and March 31 you submitted 8 cards from which your eclectic score was calculated. You had to declare prior to playing that you were entering a new card to count for the eclectic. I believe cards were to be signed as if it were a regular comp.

Normal rules of golf applied, no gimmes allowed seeing as most cards might have been submitted from bounce games.

O/S then had some kind of funky formula that tried to even out par for everybody, I know it screwed me and I was additionally handicapped in that I had to play all my games within a very short period of time. I only managed to get 7 games in before my course closed in early December and then it didn't reopen until after April 1. Cheated, I tell you, cheated...

Not that I'm bitter and twisted about it...

Just think in fairness for all it's better if the organiser isn't involved in playing as some may think i'm doctoring scores..

But will look at putting something together.... Need to see how much interest we can generate so i'll look at seeing if we can get numbers together..

Need names as definites to play

Count me in - but I feel we should trust you as organizer to enter your own scores. Lets face it, it will all be on trust anyway (we won't actually be snail-mailing the scorecards in so signing the cards isn't necessry - we will all be taken on trust)

I've got no issues whatsoever with the organiser entering as well. It's only a bit of fun and all the winner gets is bragging rights.

And it's all done on trust anyway as there is no way of validating peoples scores.

Davie last year the cards were scanned and emailed to O/S.

Mav - thanks for the offer, I'll reach out to O/S see what his "fix it" formula was.

I'm thinking together we set rules and format. I'll need scorecards from participants so I can prepare the spreadsheet and we can kick it off sometime later this month.

As a starting point for the rules, I'd suggest that as many people will be playing bounce games/stableford type scores that something like a triple bogey is the "default" score for a hole - so anything not holed out/gimmes/pickups get that default score. Only holes correctly holed out can be counted but over winter games I can't imaging many people being able to get in 7 or 8 cards under proper full medal conditions

Got to go play with a real spreadsheet now so will be off of this thread for a while.

How about open discussion for rules, that way I just have to implement them?

Once rules and format are agreed I will create a new thread for the Winter Eclectic Invitational

I ran an eclectic for our group this year for club comps. Generally everyone evened out their scores over 5-6 rounds with only a few improvements thereafter. Handicap allowance was half your lowest exact handicap recorded over the season. This worked well for our group (handicap range 5-24). However it still favours the lower handicapper slightly.

I'd suggest in addition, that a reduction in the number of cards submitted for players of greater ability would be appropriate to help level the playing field. Something along the lines of: max 3 cards submitted by cat 1s (5 or below), max 4 cards for cat 2s (6-12?), 5 cards for cat 3s, and 6 for cat 4s.

No problem with using the same rules as last year, and I have no problems with the organiser playing, it's only for a bit of fun anyway. OS didn't play last year but there was still collusion going on as OS was deffo giving JD one Laugh

Entrants just need an email addy so that cards can be emailed through. I used a simple exel spreadsheet to create my score card, which was replica, including SI and par etc, and remember to let the organiser know your handicap, as he made some serious cuts to some of us last time out.

You don't need it Mary, just do it on exel: hole - yards - par - SI and email it through to whoever is organising it. All you need then do is email your gross scores for each hole through after each round. Keep a record of your scores, and each time you play just email through the scores for the holes you've improved on. Hug

Count me in! I seem to remember last year photographing my first card with my camera phone and sending it to OS. After that we just emailed the intention to complete a round and the improvements if any afterwards. It was all done on trust. I didn't get my 8 rounds in either.

These are last year's rules:

1) The format is to be an eclectic strokeplay over 8 rounds to be taken before March 31 st 2011.

2) For the first card, I will need either a scan, photo or detailed score card giving your score, Par, the SI and your handicap, via email.

3) DNF’s on the first card will count as 9, after the first card, I will just need the hole numbers where you have bettered your previous score, and of course the score.

4) If you do not keep a tally yourself, then each round will need a full scorecard.

5) I will be adjusting your competition handicaps either up or down depending on your results if it is needed. I’m not sure exactly how this is going to work at the moment, will probably just ‘wing it’.

6) We will start with ¾ handicap rounded up from 0.5

7) Your rounds can be bounce or competition, it is totally up to you. Just remember to drop me an email before you do the round nominating it as part of your eclectic group.

8) I will post any results onto the 606 board hopefully weekly, so all can see what they have to do to make up places.

9) Gimmies – I know some of you never play gimmies whereas others do and the groups they play in expect it. Play the round as you would normally, but I would suggest that if you are putting to better your previous score on that hole, then the ball needs to drop

10) Start date is…………..The day after Remembrance Sunday. Monday 14 th November.

11) Hopefully these are all the rules we need to enjoy ourselves. Remember, this is supposed to be just a bit of fun, but hopefully it will get exciting at some stage.

Please let me know which rules we should keep and which we should amend.

I thought Ban_Bam's idea of increasing the number of cards by handicap range was a good one; I thought maybe having 4/5/6/7

Thoughts please people? This is your competition, remember this is for the glory of 606v2...

I don't think I ever saw the full rules last year as I had a foot injury that was going to stop me from playing but they look pretty good to me - and incorporate already the couple of earlier suggestions I made

I keep my own eclectic results for purely my own interest so should be able to submit a first card (with lots of 9s I expect!) then add the improvements as they come.

I'd vote for keeping those rules pretty much as they are unless anyone has any improvements

Thats sounds cool, as i have said dont have handicap

I was thinking as average round is between 95 - 100+ with occasional better round, That between 20 to 22, 3/4 of that would be 15 - 16.

Though happy for it to be whatever.

And a silly question does it matter what tees we play from, as i always play from yellow, will change if need be

NB - I'd guess if you send in your full card the first time, then your scores can be adjusted for the yellows as that is likely to have a different SSS from the whites. I'm sure 1GG can clarify that though

And I also propose the motion that as you have no official handicap, from the scores you mention, you should be off single figures :P

Davie - can you please amend the title of this thread to Winter Ecletic rules discussion?

If possible could you add a poll to see what people's thoughts are on the number of cards, less chances for low handicappers and more chances for higher handicappers.

I don't want to create a load of confusion by creating a new thread so soon. My thoughts are to create a new one with the finalised rules, entry list and sign up.

Thanks, Grumpy

Surely the whole point of the handicap system is to put lower and higher handicap players on an equal footing, therefore the number of eligible rounds should remain equal for both.

I'm off 28, by the way. Whistle
