Federer - Nadal , for tennis fans Empty Federer - Nadal , for tennis fans

Another classic of Federer-Nadal awaits us today. What makes this interesting is after a long time they are scheduled to meet in a Grandslam semi, if I remember FO 2005 was the last time they met in a Grandslam semi so this is special since its coming after 7 year long wait.

Ok whats special in them meeting in Semi's than final, for once the players and Fans wont be that much disappointed in seeing one of their stars lose rather than seeing them reach till the final hurdle and loose a heart-breaker. Very Happy

Wimbledon 2007, 2008, AO 2009 and FO 2011 were all heart breakers, they were all close and loser was unlucky.

No idea whom people think as favourite, in my view today Fed will start as favourite and will go for the win and it could be in straight sets, but thats given Fed plays his A-game, this time around there is no much pressure on Roger as its just a semi-final compared to a final and secondly people expect more from Rafa to beat Roger than viceversa, and Fed is very much determined to prove a point and he is not gonna lose before the clay season starts Very Happy , but I wont be surprised given Nadal's quality he could pull an upset if he plays his A-game too, nothing less than his best will beat Rafa and Roger knows it better than anybody else.

Annacone and Roger would have devised all needed strategies for this particular match, thats one of the key reason Fed pulled out of Doha encounter against Tsonga.

Lets see whether the clever thinking and strategy this time around will work around his talent to pull a stunning win over Rafa.

Wish both the players all the best, can't wait for the match.

How were those matches all close and the losers unlucky? I'm especially curious about FO 2011 and AO 2009.

Effectively, for the tennis spectator / fan we have three "finals":
SF1: Nadal v Federer
SF2: Djokovic v Murray (with Lendl)

Winner of SF1 v SF2

For the legacy of this tennis era (with the discussion of the top four rather than a top three plus a nearly man), Murray needs to win a Slam this year and it might also benefit for Federer to win another slam to prove he still "has it" (and knock on the head that he was a "whelk era" champion).

I agree with Nore staat the strength of this era is at the top. I really think murray will get one this year and the Australian based on past performance might be his best chance. Federer I really can't see beating Nadal in a five setter, especially on a slower higher bouncing hardcourt. Maybe the USO is his best chance of getting the monkey off his back. Nadal in 4 sets, and I think pretty routine.

Given Feds only won one less Slam than Nadal n the last three years, that's scotched anyway.

I just hope the match is decided on the tennis and not lungs tomorrow. After that, let the best man win!

That would make it very one-sided....a bit like WTF. I doubt this will be the case....unfortunately.

Nore Staat

3 finals? I disagree. In some ways the real final is being played tomorrow. Who played in the 2005 FO final? You don't have to answer as after a few years few are interested...

I love how you two never quit, I hope tomorrow's match will be decided by tennis, not me I hope tomorrow's match will be decided by Tenez deciding whose shots look prettier like something akin to synchronized swimming with racquets

Unfortunately the fact that I've had to enter the grind of the 9 till 5 (after years of glorious studenthood) means that I'll be able to watch precisely none of this match. May be able to check the scores on BBC sport every so often if I'm sneaky.

Don't worry with Nadal's time wasting you might still catch up the end when you go home.

Do you mean when he has complete control of a match for the first two sets and then wastes time by losing the next two on a tie breaker before coming back and winning in 5?

I wouldn't say complete control, he was 4-1 down in the second.

I've got an all-day external audit. Might find out the score around tea-time.

Come on SA, you calling AO 2009 wasn't close?, Fed was so nervous on FO 2011 to lose it inspite of playing brilliant through out the tournament, he was certainly unlucky, just guess what would have happen to Nadal had he not stopped Djoko reaching the final Very Happy .

@Hawkeye I strangely missed the other thread, anyways its Fedal match and deserves more attention so we can have fun with more than 1 thread Very Happy . I voted for Fed in that thread, as I think it will be straight sets if not he will lose, I dont think so he will beat Rafa in 4 or 5 sets, so either St. to Fed or Rafa will walk with an upset win.

Yea technically speaking this match will have more media , sponsor and fan attention than the finals, but I can't wait for Djoko - Murray semi too, I wish Murray win the title or lose in the semi, i don't want him to have another unsuccessful final.

Exicting days ahead.

I disagree and perhaps agree with the OP's synopsis that this will be a classic.

(1) Agree we should see a classic in terms of close match and competetiveness.

(2) Unfortunately disagree that this match will be a classic in level of play, unfortunately both players are now heavily reliant on unforced errors from opponents.

Fedal matches are rarely classics. Even the 2008 Wimby final is grossly over-rated

Ha ha! There is no accounting for taste. I suppose you enjoy watching the more talented players. If you've nothing better to do maybe you could offer to do Chazzfazzers 9-5 shift so that they could watch? I'm sure they would be very apprectiative...
