David Price Q&A : Your Questions Please Empty David Price Q&A : Your Questions Please

Post by Union Cane Thu 9 Feb 2012 - 15:15

Commonwealth Gold and Olympic Bronze medal winner David Price has made a solid start to his pro career, having compiled a record of 12 straight victories, 10 by way of knockout. Impressive wins over previously unbeaten Tom Dallas and seasoned campaigner John McDermott had propelled David towards a showdown with British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, but Fury has decided to vacate the titles and thereby avoid a clash with Price.

david price:
Price said "I'm just disappointed because of all the talk in the past and everything he's had to say about me, and disrespecting me as a fighter, I wanted the chance to get in there and prove who's the best heavyweight in the country."

Things are already moving on, with Price scheduled to face Norwich's Sam Sexton (15-2) for the now vacant British and Commonwealth titles in May.

Through his promoter Frank Maloney, we have managed to secure a Q&A session with David, so please submit any questions you have on this thread and we'll do our best to get them all answered.

Why don't you fight more often - you seem to be totalling yor opponents quickly - so maybe if youu fougt more you could get the experience required and move your career along faster?

Who is your boxing hero and who do you admire the most away from the sport?

What did you think of the condition that John McDermott turned up in?

Can you ever find jeans that fit in Next or Topman?

These small hall fights are all very well and good but where do you hope to be fighting in say, two years from now? What would your dream venue be? And you're not allowed to say Anfield!! Wink

Do you think a fight with Tyson Fury will happen soon and how do you see the fight going if you did?

This one was answered on the Frank Maloney thread - Frank has a template he uses with his fighters to which David has stuck to. Frank stated that he expects David to fight around 5 fights over the next year as part of that template.

We recently saw Dereck Chisora get on the wrong end of a very questionable decision in a Euro title tilt at Helenius, given he is Euro champ and world ranked is Helenius a fight you would be willing to take given what happened to Dereck?

You were put over a couple of times in the amateurs, with smaller gloves and no headguards are you confident your chin will hold up at world level.

Why such a rigid template - I imagine a gruelling fight requires much more recovery than a one round blowout. Just change as results do. At this rate he is going to end up with 25 fights and about 40 rounds of experience - Do you envisage a disparity between where you should be and where you are?

Although you are a relatively inexperienced pro, you are already relatively old for a professional sportsman. Do you feel the need to hurry on and what age do you envisage as suitable for retirement?

PPV or terrestrial TV? Do you want to be fighting on a free-to-air channel to build exposure, as one of your rivals has done - or would you rather face tougher challenges, with more limited exposure but richer rewards?

What are your thoughts on Seth Mitchell and how far he can go?

Congratulations on your SuperHeavyweight bronze in Beijing. America's medallist from those games, Deontay Wilder, is also competing in your division. What are your thoughts on the promise he has shown thus far?

How many more fights before you are looking at a Euro title shot or even a world shot?

Do you think that subscription only boxing channels benefit or harm the sport?

Given that you have won your pro fights so far quite easily, how beneficial do you find these fights to your development as a fighter when compared with the sparring you do in the gym?

Outside your own boxing career, do you watch or follow much boxing? If so what fighters out there do you like watching and what fights would you like to see made?

Given that the Klitschko brothers are the top guys in your division at the moment, what is your opinion of them as fighters? Which one do you think is better?

If Wlad Klitschko needed a late sub to fight, would you step in at 3 weeks' notice?
