The NRL thread
First topic message reminder :
Following on from other threads to make the RL section easier to follow, we know have this thread. So all news etc from what is in my opnion the best league in RL, views and other things that people want to add or put across about the Aussie/New Zealand leagues, please feel free to put in here.
Parramatta's remarkable skipper Nathan Hindmarsh has announced that this year will be his last. After a fantastic career that has spaned 15 years, and over 300 games, all for the Eels.
Melbourne's Cooper Cronk has signed a 4 year deal to remain at the club.
New Zealand Warriors utility Lewis Brown will be leaving the club at the end of this year. After agreeing a 3 year deal with the Penrith Panthers.
A potential white night has gone public with his intentions to save financially stricken NRL club the Gold Coast Titans.
Billy Rae has said that his consortium are deadly series in there take over bid. Meanwhile media reports say that Scott Hill & 5 other buisness men are a rival consortium to take over the Titans.

Forgot to add, Mick Potter is apparently the red hot favourite to take the West Tigers coaching job, whilst Tim Sheens is favourite to take the New Zealand Warriors job.

Apparently the Warriors have offered Craig Bellamy the coaching job at $2 million a year, out of that he pays whatever/whoever coaching staff and trainers he wants.
This time next week the story and names will probably be completely different.

Re: The NRL thread
From reading the NZ press Laurie, it seems Bellamy is free to see out his contract at the Storm next season and the Warriors will have a temporary coach as a stopgap (Tony Iro?). Talk about sacrificing short term gains for long term benefits. This better come off because the Warriors will have next to no fans if they have another stinker of a season next year.

Think I've said it before but I'd like to see Stacey Jones at the helm.
The guy is a legend of the game and a great football brain - I'm sure the players would look up to him but not so sure if he is a great coach / communicator? I really wouldn't mind seeing the Warriors win it in the next few years.

Stacey coached Point Chevalier in the Auckland Fox Memorial competition in 2010 and 2011, they won the comp, but he had two good mates helping him, Monty Beetham and Arwin Guutenbeil.
Stacey besides making Subway sandwiches works for the NZRL.

I don't know who is initiating it. If it's a case of the players making the decision then that's OK but in a perfect world there would be the same amount of Aussie/Kiwi players going to the UK.

Re: The NRL thread
My Four comments on the shoulder charge:
A lot of people dont appreciate that the shoulder charge is only permitted at the top proffessional level, show me someone that says that their little johnny will get maimed by a shoulder charge, then I'll show you someone that doesnt know what they are talking about.
Its not the shoulder charge that should be the center of attention here, its the contact with the head that should be policed.
Most coaches try to dissuade the use of the shoulder charge on the grounds that many miss, and result in a "missed tackle".
Finally, I must admit that the Sydney player that said "Whats next, they may as well ban the ball" brought a wry smile to my dial.

I just looked up the Roosters 2013 squad, and Jennings might find he's got competition for a centre jersey, theyve also got :
Daniel Tupou
Tom Symonds
Michael Oldfield
Tautau Moga
Mitch Aubusson
Sean Kenny Dowall
Plus a second rower that knows a bit about the position...Sonny Bill.

A real shame George.
I'd like to see Souths return to their former glory years (even as a Manly fan)... even more so now with Rusty gone from the scene.
(In other news - I've just bought a house in Auburn - so I might catch a few Berala Bears matches this winter and also make Canterbury my "Official 2nd Team". It's been Manly for over 40 years... and always will be... but since I'll be living 10 mins from Stadium Australia I'll definitely go to a few more games there during the season)
