Deontay Wilder Faces An Unbeaten Opponent
Don't get overly excited...
http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=45596&cat=boxer
His opponent is respectfully 14 -0 with 10 KOs, however I think a quick glance at this guys weight leaves you scratching your head.
His opponent has fought once in 5 years and when he was fighting consistently he was around 170 his last fight he turned up at around 225 pounds... (Which is a bit of a difference)
So all in all he's facing guff...
Thoughts?

No surprise here, to be honest. Of all the unbeaten, highly-touted Heavyweight prospects coming through (Wilder, Mitchell, Price, Fury, Boystov etc), Wilder seems to be the most revered and the one able to whip up the biggest frenzy amongst fans - and yet his opposition has almost certainly been the worst that any of the bunch have faced.
Ideally, the aforementioned Heavyweights would square off against each other now and then, but that won't happen - they, nor their management team, are likely to take that kind of risk when defeat will almost certainly set them back a year or so in their quest to cash in on a beating from Wladimir or a cakewalk to the WBC belt which Vitali will soon be leaving vacant.
Alas, we can expect more of this guff for another year or so yet.

It won't happen but could you imagine if Vitali loses the election in a landslide in the Ukraine and said well politics is clearly not for me am going to refocus on boxing and keep going for another few years. The management teams of about half a dozen prospects would be in tears, they might have to go to plan B and actually fight other prospects.

Wilder's record is even worse than Michael Grant's at the same stage of his career. At least Grant had the audacity to have faced Mike Dixon, Ross Purity, Louis Monaco & Al Cole by that time.
Grant was hyped as an All-American unbeaten beefcake who would destroy all before him. However, he was badly dropped & hurt early in his Golota fight then was utterly destroyed in the Lewis fight. I see exactly the same thing happening to Wilder as soon as he gets tagged. The moment he meets a fringe contender who connects with half a punch he is likely to be on queer street. True, his punch power may get him out of trouble but the dangers are all there to see.
There's a reason why he's facing nobodies methinks...

Lewis got away with some very dirty tactics when he fought Grant. Holding and hitting has never been so blatant in modern boxing.
Give Grant his due, he took his beating like a man. I've no clue how he got up at the end of the first. He caught Lewis with some cracking right hands too. It kind of makes a myth out of Lewis' glass jaw.
Wilders opponents stink. We'll only get to see if he's any good when he fights for a version of the title.

apparently wilder has been calling fury out but because wilder is no where near being world ranked, it wouldnt make any sense.

I read an article on box**g ne*s 24 that appeared to think Vitali must be running scared from Deontay, as he won't even face Haye. Apparently Deontay's proven himself more at Heavyweight than Haye.
It also mentioned that it would likely be a KO win for Wilder as, although Vitali survived Lewis' right hand, Wilder's right hand is clearly a more potent weapon.
Jesus christ.

Was giving Wilder some stick on Twitter on Friday and he actually replied with a bit of banter. Think he knows his opponenets are a joke and is just waiting for an easy run at a title once a K-Bot goes.

Yea so it makes more sense to fight an unranked Rogan and a 100-and-something ranked Maddalone.
Re: Deontay Wilder Faces An Unbeaten Opponent
Got to agree Reborn, irrespective of ranking Wilder is better than Maddalone or Rogan and is well thought of in the states, beating him would do wonders for Furys repuation and standing on the other side of the pond

Re: Deontay Wilder Faces An Unbeaten Opponent
This is a disgrace. Wilder's "opponent" has just weighed in at 262lbs. (Wilder was 229).
That is 32lbs MORE than when he last fought in 2010. Even Odlanier Solis would struggle to put on that much weight. I haven't seen any pics (thankfully) but I get the impression that McCreary will be as chiselled as blancmange...
Oh, and he's 8 inches shorter than Wilder. Don't think Deontay's gonna lose much sleep.
