Price-Thompson: Predictions? Empty Price-Thompson: Predictions?

Post by Mr Bounce Sat 23 Feb 2013, 12:45 pm

Well, Thompson's come in at 262lbs, his heaviest ever. And judging by his comments about retirement he is expecting to lose. Price is at 247, the same as when he pancaked Harrison.

I don't see this going past 4 rounds, and if it does, it'll be target practice. Thompson turning up for a payday and hopefully showing slightly more than Johnson did against Fury. However, the first power shot Price connects with, Thompson goes down.

My actual reckoning is 2 rounds max, unless Tony gets lucky. It's going to be a walkover.

A fat 41 year old. Joke of a fight. Feel sorry for price. Any lustre has been eaten by Thompson.

Although fat, I'm expecting Thompson to be slightly more durable.

Predicting Price to win by KO in the 5th.

Thompson's come in at 262lbs?? what a disgrace, he should be made skip in a sauna. I thought this might be a good fight for price when it was first made. But Thomspons weight shows what he's thinking of this fight. I've seen Thompson take a dive against WK, so now fully expect him to do the same once he's felt Price's punch. This farce will be over in 2.

Feel sorry for Price, this was meant to be a test, now it's just a case of Thompson looking for the best time to take a seat.

I've bet Price 2,3,4 for what it's worth.

He's been a pretty good earning in the early rounds recently - hoping the first round is cagey.

Thompson won't engage, it's not his style. I expect him to circle the ring until he gets tired which won't be very long. I think he will make it to the secod half of the fight on experience.

It's was always a dud fight. Price needs to look to begin focusing on taking the Euro belt and making his way to The Ring Top 10. Maloney could be a fly in the ointment with his milking of Price at domestic level.

As I said I reckon he will get a few more rounds in than his last few fights but he still won't learn an awful lot.

thompson has no ambition. he wont get hurt here. he will sit down and just miss the ten count first time he gets stuck on the ropes. this fight could be the least interesting for Price so far. Skelton and Mcdermott did actually hope to win. Thompson retired after the Wlad fight and is coming into this for one extra payday he was probably talked into. i bet thompson is getting a good figure for this.

Despite the criticism Price is moving along nicely and while Thompson is getting on a bit he is still an experienced good boxer who has only lost to the best, so a tricky fight that should move Price towards the fringe of a title shot.

A fight that has probably come at the right time and if he puts in a good performance it should push his credibility up a bit..

Can't see it lasting two rounds, once Price lands a big right it will be game over man, game over.

Prizefighter should be much more entertaining, which given the line up seems ridiculous.

chisora is the only option to give price a test , fury wont fight him belives the fight is bigger than it actually is ! haye and the klits are a step to far for price at this stage and wont fight him anyway, chisora was unfit against fury and put up agood show against haye and vitali , i really belive chisora has talent and hes record is a bit unfair to him , price is desperate for a real test a pressure boxer with a good chin , chisora fits the bill to me

Have had a look through Thompsons record and he's normally weighed in between 248 and 260 so I don't think the weight will make much difference, in comparrison Chisora weighed the same weight against Fury.

How was I to know Thompson would come in in that condition? On paper he is a good opponent. But a fat ill prepared 41 year old is not a good test. As I said I feel sorry for price. He won't get any credit for this farce.

You class Chisora as a good opponent for weighing the same against Fury don't you? With his height he'd have been clinically obese on a BMI test.

I have to agree. This will take the shine off of most of the victory (if, as I expect, Price wins). And if the weight is indicative of the way that Thompson has prepared for this - which it probably is - then Price will likely be in for another non-testing match up. A shame because this was set up to be an excellent stepping stone. Maybe TT will surprise us, but when a fighter comes in 15-20 lbs over their normal weight, it's usually a very bad sign. Very unprofessional.

I never said they where the same level did I? But a man who could be classed as clinically obese is not a good opponent, and as for him being hungry I think it's clear he was very hungry during training camp, nothing against Fury because as with Price there's nothing he could of done about it.

Honestly I think they're both quite poor based on their weights. Had Chisora came in fit then it would have been a real test but he didn't.

At the moment Thompson looks a poor opponent and maybe trained at Burger King, but he may be able to test Price and take him 12 rounds, unlikely however.

The fact that he was touted for a title shot prior to the fight, he is young, undefeated shows a level of ambition. More so that a guy who came out of retirement to take this fight. Had Thompson came in at a decent weight I would claim that it was a decent fight for Price. As it is, I feel sorry for Price as he will ko a fat semi retired fighter. He deserves better and hope he retains his professionalism and does a number on Thompson who imo is disrepecting boxing and the paying public.

Complete lack of discipline and commitment. I have never argued against that. What I have said is 1) Fury had zero idea Chisora would come in fat. 2) A fat Chisora is still a step up against anyone Price has fought. 3) A fat Chisora is better than a fat and semi retired Thompson. 4) Both are an embarassment to boxing for entering into a fight fat.

What people seem incapable of doing is being honest about Fury. Always a rider when it comes to his record especially regarding Chisora and Kingpin. Both og whom are better than anything Price has fought. Yet credit is taken away from hik because of the opponent. Yet I reckon the Price fan bots will gloss over a fat and semi retired Thompon.

Not really Az, haven't seen anyone claim this fight is going to prove he's a world beater. If Thompson comes to fight and tests Price then it may show a few things, however I think once that right hand lands its game over.

My issue with the Kingpin fight is Fury fans keep using it as a measuring stick, the fact he showed about as much ambition to win as my four old daughter would gets ignored.

Proves nothing as his opponent clearly has one eye on retirement, but on we go to the Price-Fury showdown.
