David Price wants rematch with Thompson

BBC Sport British heavyweight David Price wants a rematch with Tony Thompson and would consider fighting in the United States for a smaller share of the revenue.

The Liverpudlian, 29, lost his 15-fight unbeaten record with a shock second-round defeat on Saturday.

"If there's any way to right a wrong it would be by defeating Tony Thompson," Price told BBC Sport.

"And if it meant going to America to fight him that would all be part of the learning experience."

Price's last seven bouts have all been staged on Merseyside but he is ready to go wherever necessary to reignite his career.

"If it meant me taking a little bit less money to get the chance to avenge it then it's something we could look at," he added.

"We'll talk about it this week and if we could get him to agree to do that, that would be great."

Thompson, 41, has backed Price to go on to become a heavyweight world champion despite his victory.

Thompson said he wants Fury next.

It would be a good fight for Fury.


Imagine if Thompson beat Fury. That would put an end to the hype about a new generation of British HW's.

Why would TT want a step backwards? He's looking for bigger and better things next. Let's hope its Fury.

I cant see Thompson ever getting a title shot again. Hes had two and failed miserably in both. Theres nothing in a third fight unless he gets a miracle set of results.

Thompson will probably leverage this win to fight Fury. Fury beats him though I reckon. As for Price. With his chin exposed like that, he will need to work very hard on his defence

Why? The guy has lost twice. He's past it. Why should beating a novice put him I line for another shot. But he's better than Fres.

but been beaten by one brother doesn't mean he can't fight the other. if he beat fury he probably deserves another shot, or a least a fight for number 1 contender. BUT fury will lay out thompson, and i think he would have to catch fury a little better than he did price to stop him.

Why do some boxers insist on talking in the third person. They just sound like w@nkers, all of them. Michael Vaughan used to do it when he was England cricket captain. He is intelligent and educated and still sounded like a w@nker. Ricky Hatton as well. Plus he says 'ickle' instead of 'little' which is ridiculous as well. My youngest kids are two years old and have the capability to say the word 'little', correctly. Knob.

What's really remarkable is that Amir Khan often manages to display both the third person and the 'we the team' traits in the same sentence, which really does take some doing!

He got sloppy, was caught by a decent enough shot but in a pretty horrid place and he got KO'd. Why is he not allowed to speak of redemption and why is he now consigned to boxing's dustbin?

He might want a rematch but conventional wisdom suggests it would be over Maloney's dead body!!

Looking at a dwarf with feather fists for Price's next fight.....Maybe bashful or sleepy!!..........

Vitali will happily retire if you can convince that shameless ducker Lennox Lewis to finally grant him the rematch he so richly deserves.

I appreciate there may be a few problems with Lennox then agreeing to fight me, then my brother again, then me and my brother again but we are businessmen at the end of the day and I'm sure you can see this makes good sense.

In all seriousness..It wasn't the loss that was damaging but the manner of it....

It was half a punch and it completely destroyed him.........

He can comeback......but now you'd fancy anyone with half a dig.

If it was half a punch on the chin, I'd be more willing to accept his career at the very top is nonexistent. As it was a clip behind the ear and we've all seen what happens when a fighter gets caught with one of those, I think he deserves the opportunity to prove it was a bit of bad luck as opposed to an out and out inability to take a punch. If that was the case, he'd be getting KO'd in sparring every fifteen minutes and no promotor on the planet would be foolish enough to try sell their man to the public with that knowledge.

So you are telling me that Ali, Holmes, Lewis, Mccall etc never got half a punch behind the ear..

Do me a favor....Durability wise he's got problems.

I'm not saying there's not a concern, I'm saying it's unfair to write him off completely when he's already taken shots flush and not flinched but has gone down from a shot which is well known to rob many fighters of their equilibrium.

How many fighters have you seen who were generally quite durable also got staggered with a something and nothing shot? Price isn't the only one it's ever happened to.

Corley had Mayweather on wobbly legs when he caught him a glancing blow high on the temple. Don't recall anyone suggesting Floyd is chinny though.

I've seen them staggered..............but generally with a harder shot.

Gonna be difficult to get a run of wins against DECENT opposition without being hit flush.

Thompson was so cool and composed. He knew very well the outcome of that fight before it begun.
