He either has that Flex Wheeler work-out mentality, or he's pretty much maintaining character. Hmm.. a bit of both methinks. He's letting you in a little bit without breaking kayfabe on the character. Ryan Reeves was certainly less gym intense (in terms of persona, not ethic) pre-Ryback.
