Tyson Fury - Still overweight Empty Tyson Fury - Still overweight

Post by Pedro147 Mon 05 Aug 2013, 11:17 am

pic.twitter.com/fJNR7rfVrz

This is his picture he posted today, I know the fight is still a few weeks away but you can't help but feel he still needs a kick up the a$$. He's got massive love handles despite saying he's training almost every day for the fight at the moment. Although he has improved the last 12-18 months, I still think that mentally he's not where he should be. With a more professional outlook he wouldn't be overweight like this. All the top guys keep themselves in good nick

Wow he getting some lip from fans regarding that pic. If he seriously thinks he looks in good shape then he needs to pull out of the fight and concentrate on darts or something.

I have to agree, there is literally no excuse for being overweight in such a fashion when there is millions of pounds and a potential title shot on the line in the biggest fight of your career. If you look at the Klitschko's, David Haye and even Chisora recently, all of them look like boxers in fighting shape. If we look back into the 90's we have athletes like Bruno, Tyson, HOlyfield, early Lewis (he started carrying a bit of weight at the end) - look at the 80's - Bowe, Ruddock etc.

There's no excuse. If he's fat, he's slow and if he's slow - he's going down. The way Wlad squashed Haye was because he was actually dare I say it, faster. That jab was a piston all night, Fury hasn't got that and at the weight he's looking, he won't have it.

This is always my slight bug bear with Fury. You never really get the impression he is taking the game all that seriously. Remember years ago in the run up to the first McDermott fight which was something of a step up at the time he was interviewed in Boxing News and he said the only sparring he had was with his cousin Hughie, his explanation for this was Hughie was a “big lump”, is hardly ideal preparation and does not bespeak a fighter taking things as seriously as he should.

Similar happened with the Cunningham fight where his trainer could not get a visa. I know they are working to get this resolved but until this is resolved surely he should not be taking fights in the states and if it is not going to get resolved you have to think he may need to get another trainer. I personally do not think Fury is all that, but you do get frustrated with the idea he is not always giving himself the optimum chance to achieve all he could.

Rocking the love handles a bit, have seen him in better shape but also much much worse. He's still got plenty of time to cut down another 10 pounds.

Nothing to get Haye excited IMO.

Thats a lot more than 10lbs Toppy, thats a good 1-2 stone he needs to cut to break into the 17 - 18 stone area which is where he should be given his height.

Yeh, my point being I don't think he'll want to cut more than about 10. You don't need an adonis figure to compete at HW, I think 250lb about suits him. Be interesting to know exactly what weight he's at now.

Maybe I'm being generous, but come weigh-in I think he'll be in the best shape of his life.

hahaha

I even posted a balanced comment re Trade Unions on the off-topic section, Jab!

Something's just niggling the back of my mind with this fight, think it'll be closer than many (incl. me) expected and whilst I'm fairly confident of a Haye win I think he'll have to work harder for it than most think. Dare I say it, maybe even get off the deck??

I can't view the pic, but is it reliable that the picture is recent?  He may want the Haye camp to think that he's out of shape when, in fact, he's not.  I don't think it will matter that much unless Haye lacks motivation for this fight- which I don't think he is.

The haircut and promo stuff in the background suggest at last fairly recent.

What's next, tweeting a picture of a slightly grazed finger so Haye will think Fury has hand trouble?

If he thinks the two brain cells he has floating around his skull are on a par with atoms being fired around the Hadron Collider, he's even more stupid than we think he is....which I have to say, is pretty damn stupid.

That's a fair point - he comes across pretty calm.  The only time I've ever seen Haye show any kind of reaction is during his staredown with Manuel Charr Shocked.

Dont think this is that recent to be honest. And even if it is, he looks in close to the same shape as he normally is anyway bar about 2 fights were he looked in "properish" shape.

Doesnt make a difference if he loses the handles, he is what he is.....slow, average and lumbering.

You just dont know with Fury anyway, he admitted on the v2 Podcast that almost everything he puts on Twitter has an agenda so maybe he wants a negitive reaction to the pic, I dunno.

But reading some of these comments, are you really that surprised that a guy who has been in shape for about 3% of his pro career is out of shape over a month before a fight??

When you consider who he's fighting and what's at stake, it does beggar belief that he would allow himself to be in such poor condition just so he could post a picture of it on twitter to try and gain some kind of psychological advantage.

Why waste time with all this when his time would be better spent trying to figure out how to beat Haye? Given he needs to copy the Wlad M.O. but lacks much of the ability to pull that off, there's a great deal of thinking still to be done and unfortunately the Fury brain trust seems to have come up with the tactic of showing him looking like a man who is definitely going to get a spanking. What's next sending pizza to David Haye's house in the hope he does a Danny Williams?

Maybe he's just very confident that, irrespective of what shape he comes in, chances are he's going to lose. Would explain why he pulled out of the mandatory status fight for the much much bigger payday.

Take the loss on the chin, so to speak, gain the experience, and move on.

Problem is, there's a very real possibility that Haye does such a number on him that he never gets anywhere near this level again (some would argue that, despite his high ranking, he's done precious little to demonstrate he's capable of, let alone worthy of, winning a world title.)

Does not matter what weight he comes in at, he will be flat on his back within a couple of rounds anyway. Probably even knows this himself deep down so maybe is not bothering to kill himself in training.

There is also the possibility carrying a bit extra timber is a conscious plan of Tyson's. Lets be honest no matter what he weighs he is not going to match Haye for speed so his plan may be to carry a bit extra with a view to leaning on Haye and tying him up close with a view to slowing him down as the fight goes long.

Problem is that Fury clearly lacks the stamina to cart all that extra weight around himself so he's in danger of blowing out his rear end before Haye does. If his midriff isn't in fine fettle, Haye should be working the body to drop the hands and expose that chin.

As tactics go from Fury, it's a bizarre choice

Tony Tubbs could go 15 rounds whilst carrying some extra..........Yet Bruno was dead after 5........

Just because you have a bit of extra doesn't mean you are not fit....

Not impling anything...I'm stating as fact that Fury is a poorly conditioned "athlete" and, going into the biggest fight of his career, he should be ashamed of himself. Mayweather could go into the ring without having done the roadwork as the possesses the skills to make that a minor issue but even Riddick Bowe is looking at Fury thinking, "this lad's a disgrace"

Something about Fury tells me he's quite ambitious.............Not sure he'll roll for the money..........and Cunningham gassed before Fury in his last fight....

However have to agree he could be conditioned better.........maybe a new trainer that's required.

Don't think he'll deliberately fold either, but his poor conditioning coupled with lack of experienced means that Haye will fold him in two. Fury is ambitious alright but only in the way these talentless idiots go onto X-Factor convinced they're the next superstar.

Fury believes he can win. He is the new Audley. But he still hasn't lost, so his confidence is based on something no matter how much we all deride it. He is just trying to drum up more interest and keep in the news.

considering he's got a slight 6 pack, he must have a pretty low body fat percentage. he simply might just have big hips.

he could be ripped and his hips will stick out. that said, there's no way peter will let him be anything other than in prime condition.

their fitness workouts sound brutal. running, pausing to do various circuit training type exercises then carrying on. anyone who runs will know how hard that is. plus they do the old running while giving someone a piggy back thing. peter is a great trainer, the fact he's respected by booth and others means something.

Doesn't appear Fury has ever turned up at these punishing workouts. Does he have an identical twin who does it all instead.

BTW, anyone want to bet whether Haye will wear a t-shirt depicting Fury punching his OWN head off?

Perhaps he's keeping a bit of weight on to act as extra cushioning for when Haye bounces him off the canvas, or maybe he thinks it won't be a problem as he's not expecting to last more than a couple of rounds.

It's hard for a big man 6'9 tall to look good unless he's roided up which I suspect a lot of the tall fighters that come in good condition are. Fury does however look like he's packed on some muscle and the fact the rough outline of his abs are showing he is probably only 4 or 5% bodyfat points off looking in good nick. 4 weeks is a long time especially with aids like clenbuterol readily available. Fury looks like he is coming in big and that might be to insulate himself against Haye's power also hoping for a bit of rough and tumble as Jeff said further up the thread. Can't insulate the chin as we know so I still expect Haye to win by KO.

I've been reading some of the ped forums recently and there are boxers on there looking for advice on what to take, dosages etc and how to avoid detection. In fact there are athletes of just about every kind looking for advice on ped's. It's all out there in the open for anybody to read.

Hopefully this isn't a yard stick we will use for this fight but ....

Williams vs Skelton 2. Williams came in large as the first fight was very physical. Skelton came in light and boxed around Williams all night, easily taking the win. Let's hope that Fury doesn't sacrifice mobility (what it is anyway) for strength. Otherwise, we are going to have another boring fight ala Valuev.

Peds are rife, when I was active there were a few people who were taking various things from various websites without really thinking. A big one is some herbal thing which allowed them to drop a weight class in a week, I forget what it was called - women take it....quite readily available...makes them mental, well more than usual....adios?
