Irish Crowd noise at Aviva Empty Irish Crowd noise at Aviva

Post by Blanko Thu 06 Feb 2014, 10:50 am

Was it just me or did the Irish crowd appear very quiet during the Scotland game? Only coming alive when Ireland were close the Scottish line and even there it was muted. IMO.

Conversely the Welsh crowd was on fire from the start and that was against Italy!

Is the Aviva stadium design poor for crowd noise / acoustics or is there not the same crowd passion? Did no one else get same sense?

Hope the noise will be better this weekend  Cool

They'll be plenty of noise when a penalty decision doesn't go their way - from the crowd and the players to the ref  Wink

The roof at the MS was closed which amplifies the noise there. There were moments where the irish crowd were quiet but it was a very stop start game. Srum resets hampered any continuity and Scotland came to spoil. As a result the game lacked pace. In any case you cant expect any crowd to get excited if the spectacle isnt exciting.

Too right. Is a fair ref too much to ask? There have been too many botched calls in Ireland Wales games of late and with Barnes on the whistle I cant see this game being much different.

I thought the Irish were pretty quiet as well, but any game with Craig Joubert in charge is going to struggle for atmosphere. Always stop and start, with no control over the scrum.

He needs lessons from Nigel Owen.

It was fairly quiet during Kidneys reign, I thought the stadium design may havhe been an issue back then but then the New Zealand game happened. Some of the players said theyd never heard a stadium as loud. So could be just a matter of the team giving them something to shout about.

I hear the New Zealanders are another lot that get it hard to let their hair down and go mad. So we got something in common with their politeness Wink
