SURREY VS LANCASHIRE LV= COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE 2023

Surrey have named a 14 man squad for the LV=Insurance County Championship game against Lancashire at the kia Oval starting on Sunday 25th June.
Sam Curran is named in a red ball squad for the first time this season.
Dan Moriarty has gone on loan to Yorkshire until the end of July and Connor McKerr has also gone on loan an initial 14 days to Derbyshire.
Yet again there is no place in the squad for Ben Geddes or Amir Virdi.

Patel and Steel pick themselves for drink duties, so the final position will probably come down to either Atkinson or Lawes
Maybe Lawes is chosen having missed out last time.

My guess is that Atkinson will win the shootout with Lawes. Agree with you about the other two to miss out.

Lancs are a decent team and even though they are some way below us in the table, it won’t be a cakewalk. We’ll need to be on the money throughout - something we haven’t always done this season. We’ve got away with it so far in the Championship although faltered disastrously twice in the last week in the Blast - hopefully that will be a wake up call.

Good call Jimbob! I think I'd have chosen Atkinson over Lawes for his pace especially on this supposed helpful pitch, but Surrey certainly not making the most of it after having Lancs 46-3

27/3 as Latham goes. I guess he would have preferred us to use a night watchman as there were less than 19 overs to go!! (Memory of the Kent game for you there!).

Once more, we are playing catch up. That is a game we won't win every time ....

Captain Clueless surely can't keep his position for much longer, after tea puts Jacks on to make sure Lancs get a bonus point, just like he did in the 1st game when he put Sibley on, and his batting is even worse...thought out bowling was average at best, and the batting was even worse, still need over 50 to avoid the follow on

All that hard work undone in the last over before lunch, and to 2 long hops, let's hope the tail can get us up to a rare batting bonus point, perhaps Lancs might put on a part time spinner!

At the ground. You, Olly, would have just loved and laughed at that partnership! We keep getting into trouble of our own making - the first 3 dismissals today were appalling- and then somehow getting out of it.

Don’t think the umpires did us any favours by deciding on an early tea and giving us 44 overs to bowl in the final session after their opening bats had 20 minutes for a shower and cup of tea.

More tonight.

Those 4 wickets either side of lunch saw us looking at no points and a deficit, but what a 10th wicket stand between Abbott and Worrall, 3 points and a very healthy lead, and Jennings already back in the hutch!

We got away with it again yesterday thanks to Abbott & Worrall's last wicket partnership and looked set for a stress free win.

Trying to get away with it twice in the same match after throwing away 5 top order wickets second dig is very probably going to be too much and bring about a defeat we have been asking for.

Only fair to add that my dislike of using a night watchman is regularly posted on this forum. However, Williams played that role to perfection for Lancs and showed what could be achieved through determination and a cool head. An example to all batsmen in this game.

Absolutely pathetic, the same pitch and conditions that Lancs no 11 batted for 220 balls, but unless it's a road these Surrey imposters have no application. We've somehow stiil got a sizeable lead at the top, let's see if we can keep it

The only thing anywhere near to a positive for me today was that Lawes showed what I say normally happens whenever a night watchman is used.

Congratulations to Lancs who deserved their victory. An extremely poor showing from Surrey and a stark reminder that talent won't always triumph without thought and application.
