The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
First topic message reminder :
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

Bore da pawb / good morning all, welcome to Monday!
I was really enjoying the women's World Cup final yesterday, then the USA finally converted one of their many chances and despite wanting Japan to win, I thought that would be that and turned over to watch the Apprentice. Then I find this morning that Japan won on penalties! It was a great game (the 70 or so minutes I saw of it anyway) and I don't think there was one dive to win a free kick. Not one. No dissent towards the referee, either.

Morning All
Been on the phone this morning to NHS Direct. They're really helpful actually, but I still have to go to the doctors anyway, but it's handy to check these things first.
I also read this today:
http://www.independent.ie/national-news/lucky-escape-after-planes-nose-wheel-collapses-on-landing-2824056.html
Now given what happened when I flew back from Dublin last time it doesn't bode well for their aircraft does it?

It would take longer but you could take the ferry, Cari. I prefer travelling by boat than by plane - you can walk around and do different things. I remember getting the ferry from Swansea to Cork (well, Ringaskiddy) and having a great chat with a woman from Mallow in the ferry's pub. The barman was Greek and at last orders he put up a Jolly Roger flag for some reason.

It's not actually my back apparently, it's "plurisitic inflammation" - which is something to do with the lungs, hence I have to go to the quacks on Friday. I've got a bad eye too. Right bloody state, me!

Lucky - I'll probably do the Swansea to Cork ferry if I get to see the O's at Thomond. I haven't been on the ferry before so I fancy a go at that.

You need to careful flying with pleuristic inflammation Cari... you don't want a collapsed lung - check with your doctor. (I know the cabins are pressurised)
Might be safer to go by ferry. Also, no climbing Mt Everest or deep sea diving!

Well I hope it gets better soon.I guess you've checked it up on the Internet ? Hopefully you've just got a viral infection that should clear up in a couple of days. I'm surprised you have to wait so long for an appointment.
What's wrong with the eye ?

Linebreaker - I was giving my symptoms over the phone, hence I have to get checked out. It could be something completely different as the doctor will be able to listen to my breathing and give a proper diagnosis.
nottins - I could've had an appointment this afternoon but I asked for Friday. I'm not dying. I think I've possibly scratched the surface of my eye or something. Don't know until he looks at it.

Yeh cari, although I didn't get to watch any of it at all over the weekend.
When I got back from a band competition yesterday he had signed his card and was accepting his trophy. Delighted for him and for Northern Ireland.
it's playing devils advocate and offers some jurisdictional issues but the Last 17 golf major winners:
(Island of Ireland) : 6, US: 5, S. Africa: 3, Rest of the world 3.
interesting and don't mean to take anything away from Northern Ireland's achievements because it's class for a country that small to produce 3 major winners in a year.
I hear Tiger Woods is looking for a house up there.

I'll sell Tiger a house...
I think Clarkes winning the open is fantastic for Irish golf and NI specifically given the bad press recently. On top of McIlroy and Gmac it's incredible for NI and when you take Harrington's achievements into account it's amazing for the whole Island.
Clarke's victory is an amazing personal triumph too given what he's been through, his age and the fact that he's been in the wilderness for a while. He seems like a really nice guy too and apparantly he bought the whole flight a round of drinks on the way back from spain last month when he won in Majorca.

Possibly
Like all Northern Irish/Irish sporting successes everyone is determined to enjoy it while it lasts!
Even though young McIlroy will be around competing at the top level for years, we should probably make the best of our 'golf superpower' status right now

This phone hacking business really won't go away...they're calling it Britain's Watergate now. The PM is under huge pressure, and he's had to cut short a visit to South Africa to answer questions in Parliament.

Afternoon all, I painted a house in a day and a half over the weekend and also went swimming out the country. I also saw the Americans bottle it and was gutted by it. Think Hope Solo (American goalkeeper) could have done with some Hans.

It's a revolution, in some ways. Take Rebekah Brooks- direct line to the PMs office, one of the most powerful people in the UK reporting the news but also making it. Shaping the government's agenda- it having been said no political party wins a Westminster election without News Internationals support. Now placed under arrest.
It's not even journalistic ethics anymore, not even about phone hacking- the people at the heart of it are/were connected to the the very top of political life and the police. It's like pulling a thread and suddenly everything unravels. It's a complete sea change in UK politics.
That said, by the next general election, the fallout from this will be a lot less significant than the economy and all the other usual things for voters over there in Britain.
But if the influence of the Murdoch media cartel is broken up in the UK, the terms of engagement will be radically different.

Notch, it's laughable that Ed Milliband's calling for new regulations to limit any one group's share of the newspaper market when presumably a few weeks ago he thought everything was fine.
