surrey vs durham clydesdale bank 40
First topic message reminder :
Pragyan Ojha has been included in the fourteen man squad to face the Durham Dynamos in the Clydesdale Bank 40 at the Kia Oval on Monday 29th September.
Ojha's inclusion means that Yasir Arafat does not feature in the squad, as Surrey can only name one of their two registered overseas players at any one time. Chris Jordan is also included in the fourteen, and replaces Jade Dernbach, who has been selected in both of England's limited overs squads to face India.
Victory for Surrey will see the side equal the club's record of eleven successive wins in domestic List A competition, a record set between the 2002 and 2003 seasons.
The full Surrey Lions squad to face Durham at the Kia Oval on Bank Holiday Monday 29th August is:
Rory Hamilton-Brown (Captain) Steven Davies (Wicket Keeper) Jason Roy, Tom Maynard, Zander de Bruyn, Matthew Spriegel, Zafar Ansari,Pragyan Ojha, Gareth Batty, Stuart Meaker, Tim Linley, Chris Jordan, Chris Schofield, Gary Wilson
for me river and the drink carrier are two to miss out not sure on the 3rd one
and has arafat played his last game for surrey?

Batty gets Stoneman lbw
Looks like the only way we can peg them back is to get wickets.

Do Venuto run out - if we get Collingwood, then we could apply some real pressure.

It was very close. doesn't help that there is no line left to judge it by!

Yep, it did look out. The only thing I would say in defence of the third umpire is that the line didn't appear to be that clearly marked and visible ....

Exactly! If in doubt, not out - unfortunately for us!

Happens a lot, guildford. I don't really see how it is allowed for the line to be completely scratched away.

Decent return from Nora in the context of the game and our bowling performance.
Nora
8 - 0 - 42 - 1
Combo So Far (Hyphen, River, Spriegs, Meaker)
8 - 0 - 94 - 0

Probably yes but not that easy to make out the line which presumably created some doubt for the third umpire and lost Schoey/Davies the decision.

Since Meaker has returned, he has not bowled badly, his figures are hurt though by edges and his terrible first spell where he seemed to be targeting leg stump.

With the exception of Nora that was shocking wides, no balls and sloppy fielding galore I'm sorry but to leave the viscount out of this team is disgraceful

It was pointed out on the Wallpaper site the other day that in the County Championship River has bowled twice as many no balls as Viscount despite bowling around 300 overs less!

74 off 45 needed now, only 3 wickets left though. Spriegel playing a blinder but it won't be enough. The loss of Roy and Davies early did it for us tbh, well that and the awful bowling!

Re: surrey vs durham clydesdale bank 40
Spriegel out for a career best 86, played really really well and proved a few of us Surrey fans wrong about him. So unlucky to be dismissed back off his leg onto the stumps.
In other news, Mitch Claydon seems to have one of the most annoying faces I've ever seen....

Re: surrey vs durham clydesdale bank 40
Just come back in - fantastic knock by Spriegel.
If this was an audition for the semi finals will either or both of River and Meaker have played themselves out of contention? Perhaps for the Semi we should have today's team minus Jordan and Meaker, with Ansari and the Viscount added back in? And simply rely almost entirely on spin plus Viscount and the Brain?

Re: surrey vs durham clydesdale bank 40
I'd actually prefer Arafat to Ohja as well, Corporal.
Hyphen
Davies
Le Roi
Wine Gums
The Brain
Gollum (geddit? Smeagel/Spriegel?)
Schofield
Gaffer
Arafat
Nora
Viscount
That would be my team for the semi. We are playing Sussex, which I think is a good thing as I wouldn't have like to play Durham again after they have just beaten us. I think today you could tell one side needed to win and the other didn't, I hope for a much improved bowling and fielding effort in the semi final.

I think it's a real shame that Dernbach cannot play in the semi final as he has been a big part of us getting there.

Not sure that he's available - being "rested" by England from the ODIs.
If he was played I imagine that he would be swopped for Wine Gums. Difficult to see that Spriegel could be dropped given his recent contributions....
I would, tho, go with the team suggested by Carrot.

Pietersen won't play. Not sure he's even eligible having not played at all in the group stage.
Really annoyed about Dernbach, I know Stokes will be missing for Durham also but it would be nice if the ECB would allow players to play a semi final for their counties unless it's on the same day as one of the international matches.

Re: surrey vs durham clydesdale bank 40
I go along with Carrot's team for the semi and his comments on today.
In particular, a great innings from Spriegel but too much to do after a generally very poor bowling performance. The loss of two early Surrey wickets only made matters worse and the later tragi-comic dismissals of Batty (run out due to not grounding either his foot or bat which were both over the line) and Jordan (caught off a ball which would have been a wide) put the tinhat on things.
On Sky it was mentioned that Ojha had been picked in preference to Arafat because he (Ojha) would be unable to play in place of Arafat in the semi or final if he (Ojha) had not played in any of the qualifying matches. Sky suggested Ojha's selection was a safety first option in case Arafat should be injured for the later games and that Arafat was definitely our preferred option. I never heard them properly expand on this (the apparent regulation or how they understood Arafat was the preferred ''overseas'') although I did only see bits of the game.
Meanwhile, Northants easily beat Warwicks despite resting most of their regulars for their CC game against us this week. Dave Burton, ex Surrey second eleven seamer, took the first three wickets including Trott and Bell.
Corporal / Chichester / Goochie - when asked if he ever kept a scorebook as a schoolboy, Nick Knight replied ''No but I played Owzat!''

If that is the rule then Pieterson will definitely not be able to play as he hasn't featured in the CB40.
