Gloucs Thread
Don't like the new set-up - all done without much consultation over a couple of days of a holiday weekend.
Well thought out.
So just starting a Gloucs thread within the County Cricket section.
There, that's the dullest topic I have ever posted.
(Please don't disagree.)
But further postings in this thread may be more interesting...

OK.
Sorry, but I try my best.
For example, see my other thread in county cricket "Snell Likes Team Spirit".
Not much to say, but I liked the title....
(... which won't mean a thing to those not familiar with popular grunge combos of the early 90's.)

Re: Gloucs Thread
Bracewell hasn't really delivered anything these last two years, apart from some P45s to some undeserving recipients.

Might he be in the market for another wicket keeper? For example Surrey's Gary Wilson - known as the drinks carrier......?

Decent performance by Gloucs today - looks like their match with Glam could go the distance.

Oh, no-one in particular...
Mind you, we might want JimBob and TheGooch too; I had no idea that they were held in such high regard.
And, based on today's selfless performance, maybe Guildford as well.

Tense finish likely.... Gloucs reached 101 for 3. Taylor 6 runs off 44 balls so far....

Which tense?
I'll go for 'future perfect'.
Our much maligned (by me) nightwatchman Payne is 40 n.o. so far!
What do I know.

Gloucs win -
Highly unlikely, but not impossible that they could gain promotion.

Re: Gloucs Thread
Thanks, Corporal.
Nightwatchman (average 15, highest score 46) top scored with 62!!
It's all to play for now.
But I think Surrey have been cheating by hiding this Ojha guy up their sleeve all season...

Gloucs next up - home to Leics
Then away to a demoralised Northants side
.....
It must have been an elaborate disguise for Surrey to conceal Ojha. This season we've tried the following "spinners" before getting to Ojha
Batty
Schofield
Hamilton-Brown
Ansari
Spriegel
Pieterson

Well, that's 48 points for us then...
How many wickets did KP get for you this season?

Well, it should certainly be 24 points against Hoggy's boys! We'll settle for you holding Northants to a draw.
Pietersen has one wicket (in his only CC match against Essex). In his other first class match for us this season he didn't take a wicket from his one over when he captained us to a 10 wicket defeat against the students of Cambridge.

Gloucs on target for the obligatory win against Leics. Keeps them in with a significant chance of promotion if they then beat Northants in the final match....

Re: Gloucs Thread
Corporal - that's a very valid comment and not good news for us (Surrey - sorry to hijack your thread, Chris!) as it increases the likelihood of 16 winning points going to one of these teams in their final match; neither Gloucs or Northants will want to settle for a draw ....

Re: Gloucs Thread
Gloucs never "settle" for anything! Stuff just happens to us.
Here's a reminder of September 2010, for those foreigners who might not be familiar:
Derbyshire 44 & 236; Gloucestershire 156 & 70; Derby win by 54 runs.
Even if we (Gloucs - sorry hijacker) win both, it could still be the Boat Race stations that go up.
Incidentally, hands up all those who would have selected Jordan...

.... only to crumble after lunch. Well done to your boys, Chris!

On the entirely reasonable assumption that only a couple of half fit Middlesex players need to turn up next week to thrash Leics, Middlesex can be regarded as promoted.
That leaves Gloucs still in the mix with Northants and Surrey for the final ticket to the promised land of Division One ....

Well, that's it then. A much better CC season than I expected.
Main grouse - we had about five minutes real cricket at Bristol in the Summer. All the rest was hit and giggle. Most of the real cricket here was in Spring and Autumn.
Makes me wonder why I took out Life Membership.

Are we comparing my optimism with your pessimism?
Bye bye from The Glosters to Corporal & The Surrey Regiment.

But it's been fun.

Good luck "up there"!
Meanwhile, we'll have to rely on the Somerset Yokels to uphold West Country pride.

Thanks, Chris. We''ll probably need a bit of luck when we find we no longer have any banker fixtures, like Leics. I'll be watching with keen interest news of any changes to the Gloucs squad.
