Frank Warren Announcement!!
First topic message reminder :
Hey lads!!
A friend has just got word that Frank Warren has called a Press Conference for all his fighters to attend in London.
Rumour has it, its going to be an annoucement that he will be withdrawing all his future fights from Sky and moving to BoxNation (Channel: 456 of Sky Platform).
More to follow......

Re: Frank Warren Announcement!!
Coxy am really loath to do it as I genuinely don't agree with it but think as I pay my license fee and have a full sky package am doing my bit to follow the sport. Do find it really annoying that had a fan of pretty much any other major sport spent what I am currently spending they would be able to see everything worth seeing within their chosen sport yet for me it looks like it won't come close. Given that principles may have to be damned and streams may well be the answer because a Sky bill that averages out in excess of £80 a month just isn't going to get past the sainted Mrs Rowley.

It would actually be £12m. Throw in advertising revenue on top and you suddenly have a serious contender
Point taken if it focus's on just one sport. UFC would garner more subs but then you're diluting the product.

I also have Sky Sports because of Fight Night and footy.
I would like to continue watching all 3 sports but dont want to pay for all 3 channels. My Sky bill is horrendous as it is!
I'm the same mate I've got Premier Sports as well because it had a few Celtic games on it. As much as the idea of a boxing channel is good I'm not givng up Sky and ESPN because of the football.

Cotto-Margarito was watched by 14k on Setanta, 100k tops watch the Saturday fight nights, Mayweather-Ortiz did 40k, you think 200k would subscribe to this channel?

Has any one read Boxing news today. They are saying the Cleverly vs Bellew fight and DeGales Euro strap fight will be on boxnation. Along with some amateur tournaments, a weekly boxing news show and cards from the States. It will be free to air until the turn of the year apparently.

Suprised it's the Kelvin Hall it only hold 2,500. Chuffed to bits though great boxing venue.

Balls to this!!!
I thought he would have put it on the 17th Dec card with Groves v Smith.
I am going to make the trek to Liverpool for that one, wouldn't be able to make it to Scotland in November but really wanted to see Katsidas live.
Burns to get stopped late on.

Burns v Kats with Groves and presumably Mitchell on the undercard? Not bad, quite fancy going to that.

Wembley? Isn't there a Tube Station there as well? Seems more fitting for a Warren promotion.Scottrf wrote:Oh really? Wembley Arena I presume?prettyboykev wrote:Warren just said Burns vs Katsidis will be at Wembley.

to be fair these are decent fights but he will need a miracle if he thinks hes getting 100k subs.

Haha I doubt he'll be getting that. Depends how it takes off really. If its anything like Primetime I can't see it lasting too long.
Do you think sky will keep shows like Ringside on etc...
The much touted season of boxing will be diluted aswell. How many Warren bills was there?

Re: Frank Warren Announcement!!
SOF suspect Hearn will become the promoter of choice with Sky, to be fair to him given he now has Brook, Barker and Froch he has some decent names and Eddie seems a genuinely ambitious kid so hopefully if fighters know they can secure Sky dates their stable will swell.

Re: Frank Warren Announcement!!
I hope so cos I do like the coverage from Sky and when your watching the fight on other platforms it doesn't seem the same.
As you say Matchroom will probs be the main promoter on Sky with Hatton pitching in aswell so maybe all is not lost. They will probably attract some good boxers aswell with the proposition of Sky exposure, especially the dropouts from 2012 Olympics.

Re: Frank Warren Announcement!!
Don't see how anyone can say this is good for boxing or the fans.
At the moment you already get to see FW cards/fighters for the cost of your sky sports subscription. When BoxNation is up and running the field will be split up even further, with less fights on SS and an extra tenner (on top of a not cheap package as it is - my Sky bill is usually about £70 a month) to watch whatever Warrens offering. Then you've got PrimeTime putting GBP cards on PPV that Sky wouldve shown for nothing. Where does it all end? This has occurred because of greedy fighters like Khan and greedy promotors like Warren wanting to maintain a PPV platform regardless of whether the quality on offer justifies it. The odd fight from the US and a bit of cack MMA is hardly a sweetener, as the bigger picture is that subscribers will now be paying the same for less, and if they want what they used to get theyll have to fork out more. This is no good for the sport long term, the clear focus is to exploit existing hardcore fans, but this system will never attract newcomers to the sport, which is another nail in it's coffin. Warren and PrimeTime can eff off if they think they're getting a penny from me, unless fish face secures the right to manny v PBF.

So, I have to have a Sky subscription, Box Nation, Primetime AND Sky PPV if I want to see everything.
So that's Bellew/Cleverly off my screen too?
Thanks a lot Frank!

Completely agree. Well done to the boxing community for diminishing an already marginalised sport. Say what you like about the UFC, but Dana White was right when he said that guys like Arum (or Warren, King, Khan whoever) have given nothing to the sport of boxing. They've made the great matches, taken the money but have given nothing to secure it, or improve it's future... I really wonder why I bother with it sometimes.

Hopefully some younger promoters can come through soon and we won't have to put up with such greed, i can't see his channel becoming a success. I hope Sky make an announcement at some point and don't just continue like nothings happenend.
