Piri Weepu tap tackle Empty Piri Weepu tap tackle

Post by Guest Sun 23 Oct 2011, 10:21 pm

I can't believe nobody has talked about this and just stuck to slating the ref,
I love the massive bone crunching tackles and i love the heavy handed nature in the ruck but Weepu's tap tackle today was in it's own right just as good as any massive hit,
because it made a statement.
He stopped a clear run in,it was timed to perfection and just said "not today lad,not today, this cup is mine"

Well done to NewZealand a nation who lives and plays real rugby the rightful world champions. thumbsup

It was a outstanding tap tackle and stopped a great try. Weepu may look like an incestuous inbred but he's been good at filling in Dan Carters hole and the gap left by his injury.

Pity for him he kicked like Hook today ....

I have always had concerns about how tap tackles fit within the laws of the game.

I am unable to find a defintition of what is a tackle under the current laws, but they always stated that you had to be making an attempt to hold the man. Tap tackles are effectively a slap often with a stiff arm, and often just as dangerous as a trip.

However yes, of it's kind, this was a good one.

Ankle taps arent illegal but they bleedin hurt when you are at full flight and you fall after one. I would prefer a crunching tackle because you at least see them coming and can prepare domewhat. Taps you dont see coming and you always seem to fall awkwardly.

It was a great tap from hime and really stopped what could have been a try.

Great, there'll be red cards for tap tackles next, but a fist and knee to the head is fine.

There were actually three other defenders in front of Trinh-Duc when weepu tap tackled him, not sure he would have evaded their tackles on his way to a "clear run in"

Leaving aside the 'Pre-Madonna' bit, which is actually quite funny, it shows wilful myopia to deny that France were excellent yesterday, a credit to their country and to northern hemisphere rugby.

To be honest, i only saw 2 although they were closing in on Trinh-Duc. If the Ankle tap wasnt made Trinh-Duc had enough time to asses his options and France also had two attackers following up. It may or may not have been a certain try but it was a very dangerous situation for the AB's and Weepu's ankle tap diffused it very well.

It was a great tap tackle. I know getting tap tackled unexpectedly can hurt, but I played in a game when the tap tackler himself almost died. He was our wing who got accidentally hit hard in the throat by the flying heel of the tackled player's boot. Fortunately a doctor on the touchline got him breathing normally.

I remember Halfpenny about to race down the line for a sure try against France in the last six nations but was stopped by a tap tackle,

Surprised he made the tackle to be fair. Someone must have put a cream cake at the corner flag, and Trinh-Duc just got in the way....

I think not view, it has been quoted Pre Madonna, a syntactical master strike if you ask me, and so it should remain...there is BC and AD and now there is PM and PM, Pre Madonna and Post Maradona.

Superbe!!

Prima Donna - a leading lady in Italian opera. A diva, drama queen, spoilt brat. Literally, first lady.

Madonna - another name for the virgin Mary, meaning my Lady. Adopted by la Ciccione as spiky ironic dig at Catholicism in America. She's nothing like a virgin, geddit?
