Regional Prospects Empty Regional Prospects

Post by welsh-matfield Wed 26 Oct 2011 - 12:14

Reading this blog http://di-enw.blogspot.com/2011/10/5-to-watch-scarlets.html it talked about 5 up and coming prospects for the scarlets. If you were to list the top 5 prospects in the other 3 regions, hears what i'd go for.

Scarlets - as suggested on the blog
1. Jordan Williams
2. Aled Davies
3. Adam Warren
4. Liam Williams
5. Kirby Myhill

Blues
1. Harry Robinson
2. Macauley Cook
3. Alex Cuthbert
4. Lewis Jones
5. Luke Hamilton

Ospreys
1. Matthew Morgan
2. Hanno Dirksen
3. Tom Prydrie
4. Ben John
5. Jack Jones

Dragons
1. Steffan Jones
2. Hallam Amos
3. Jonathan Evans
4. Lewis Robling
5. Sam Parry

I'll do a top 2 Wink

1. Lloyd Williams - Will probably be first choice for the blues by the end of the season, if not before.

2. Alex Cuthbert - As above

He may be number 6 As. There's still definitely a lot of players coming through the O's academy Smile

I reckon Kirby for the Scarlets could turn out to be very good. But with Smiler, Ken Owens and Emyr Phillips to compete with, not sure how we're going to hold on to all of them!

Adam Warren has had an absolute stormer to his start of the season, in his forst game he started , because Gareth Maule twisted his ankle during the warm up, he had man of the match scored two tries and set up one against Edinburgh. He looks the real deal to me anyway. The Scarlets have an abundence of riches in the center though, so when John Davies, Scott Williams, Gareth Maule et al come back he might struggle for some game time.

I think Steffan Jones will be the one to make big impact down at Dave this season.

A lot of our regulars are still young but have quite lot of Regional experience now but I would like to see the likes of Price, Lewis Evans, Wayne Evans, Tovey, Hughes all make impcat into Welsh set up sooner rather than later.

matfield, could you bracket the players positions next to their names? I am unfamiliar with a few. You could also add number eight Morgan Allen to the Ospreys list. Really suprised to see Jon Thomas made the European squad ahead of this guy.

I must be in a minority as I don't think Steffan Jones had a great game against Wasps, he cracked under a bit of pressure when Wasps were going forward by slicing his kicks and missed a tackle on their scrum half who went over for a try. He's no Tovey yet but I would much prefer him to be back-up 10 than Jones!

I think Gareth Davies (and has been said above Warren) look very exciting - further down the list I'd have Emyr Phillips, Kieran Murphy and Liam Williams.

(The futures bright, the futures Scarlet)

4. Lewis Jones

*Try Rhys Downes - He has been playing much better this season and its strange he has been dropped and didnt really get a chance last season

I do agree morgannwg in that he's a much, much better option that M Jones as back up to Tovey. It always depressed me when the Dragons put him in the team (unless they were playing the Scarlets)

Scarlets
1. Rhodri Jones - 20
2. Ken Owens - 24 (don't know if thats too old for youngster), Emyr Phillips - 24 , Kirby Myhill - 19
3. Gardiner - 21
4. Dom Day - 24
5. Aaron Shingler - 24
6.
7. Josh Turnbull - 23
8. Ben Morgan - 22, Kieran Murphy - 23
9. Gareth Davies - 21, Tavis Knoyle - 21
10. Jordan Williams - 18, Owen Williams - 19, Dan Newton - 23 (not sure if he'll make it) & of course Rhys Priestland - 24
11. Liam Williams - 20
12. Jon Davies - 23, Adam Warren - 20,
13. Scott Williams - 21, Nic Reynolds - 22
14. George North - 19, Viliame Iongi - 22
15. Dale Ford - 20

Feel free to ammend, and not sure if 24 is too old, but couldn't think of many fowards younger, and I think 24 is very young for an experienced front row. Also couldn't think of a blindside.

I'm not impressed with Rhodri Williams yet, he may develop into a quality SH, but I ain't seen it yet. Didn't think Avies had played that much.

Hadn't heard of D Thomas.

Cheers
