Top 10 South African batsmen since re-admission.
First topic message reminder :
Seeing that the cricket season is upon us, I thought it would be interesting to see who the top ten batsmen have been for South Africa since their re-admission.

It is clear from these match averages that Jacques Kallis has not only been our most valuable player as a batsman, but taking into consideration that he has taken close to 300 wickets as well most definitely our most valued player.
I once read in Alan Donald's autobiography where he said, Kallis is not the sharpest tool in the shed. Perhaps it has more to do with his sigleminded dogged determination to focus on the job at hand that makes him percieved as a little blunt.
It is also quite scary to think we don't have 10 batsman in the modern era that acerages more than 40, let alone 45 per innings.
What is very encouraging to see though, is that our top four modern day bastman are all currently still playing for the Proteas. Question remains how long will Kallis still continue?

Lets not get too wound up about this.
We have all shown why AB >>>> KP.
The only English Saffer who could probably stake for a place in the SA side IMO would be Prior

I would think that English cricket fans must have an affinity for SA cricket, seeing that our players could almost be related.

TBH I'm very surprised that SA aren't ODI and Test world leaders. Your side is immense!

We always seem to threaten at the top, but rarely break through to number one. I am OK with that, as long as we always remain competitive against all opponents.

I would think Prior most definitely yes, but once again depends what Gary Kirsten would do, de Villiers will most likely become our fulltime wicketkeeper once boucher retires, but having a wicket keeper batsman with Prior's record sure is a benefit, also whoooooooooooooo's that spinner you guys have again? wouldn't mind having him though, even if there is no bloodline linking him to SA.

Re: Top 10 South African batsmen since re-admission.
dont you think there is a danger of making abdv the full-time wicketkeeper in tests ?
look at the huge difference in sangakarra's figures between tests where he was also keeper and those he played purely as a batsman

Hopefully not, there is a new guy in the squad Heino Kuhn, has a solid average of 44 with the bat at first class level and a very good keeper. I would think kirsten is looking at him to grow into the squad.

Yeah, but would you really want him any other way?
for me he was a great entertainer, if it was his day he would slap the toffee out of anyone.
I'll never forget his 175 of 109 balls or whatever it was against australia inthe famous ODI.

No need for that DR, gregers loves KP!, and he won't mind saying Chris Martin is a better bat than Pietersen!!!!!.

Is Cronje not there because of what he did off the field?
Is average the only way to assess the best 10?

Cronje for me, is anyday, a better bat than say someone like Brian McMillencricketfan90 wrote:msp83 wrote:Is Cronje not there because of what he did off the field?

I was just ignoring him TBH Fists.
wow, honest question for you: imagine you were born say in Germany (why not?) but then moved to France aged three, so that you barely even remember Germany if at all. Would you consider yourself German or French? If you were very talented at a given sport (maybe football), good enough to play at international level, would you most likely be representing Germany or France? Considering of course that you were brought up in France, learned to play football in France, played football in France your whole life.
Hypothetical of course...
