A glimpse into the golden age

It was a dry hot day that day , and I was sweating my guts out before even start walking, while he appeared fresh and relaxed on the opposite side of the net. He didn't really stop talking; in my recollections, not even during the rallies.

It felt like I was getting shorter by the minute and needed to climb on a stair to get those bloody balls back on court. When I was on the verge of giving it all up, and calling a MTO, I saw Alexandre coming back to his chair: "mucho bravo amigo, muchos valente".

It was at this very moment that it finally downed on me: what he really wanted was a good sparring partner for the day, that 's why he didn't stop playing at the end of the set: he wasn't bothering about the score.
