Amir Khans latest diary entry

Hey guys,

So fight week is well and truly upon us and I just can't wait for the big night now! Fighting in the capital of the USA is something I'm really excited about.

I flew into Washington from LA on Sunday in the early hours just in time for Monday's photo tour of all the famous landmarks in the city. I'm a regular visitor to the USA and have been to Washington before, it's a great city, but this time it feels different - the place is buzzing because it's been such a long time since there's been such a huge fight here.

The Convention Center has sold out and a lot of my fans are already here. It's going to get a lot more hectic near the end of the week as more and more arrive.

I visited the Capitol Building, the Martin Luther King Jr memorial, the Lincoln memorial and finished off by posing for some pictures out the White House. I enjoyed it, there was a lot of media there from both the US and UK and it was nice getting an insight into Washington and its history.

Peak

One thing that has surprised me is the weather here. A lot of people were telling me that it snows at this time of year but so far it hasn't. It has rained a few times and the temperature is more like Bolton weather rather than LA where the sun is constantly out.

I also did a media roundtable with all the UK press on Monday at my hotel, and it was nice to see all the familiar faces out here again to cover my fight. A lot of them were interested in how I'm going to deal with a guy like Peterson in his hometown but to me it doesn't matter where I fight because the ring is always home to me!

I've just been doing some light training during fight week because it's important to look after yourself at this stage and make sure you are at your peak when you enter the ring. My morning sessions have been with Alex where I go for a run on the track or go swimming. Freddie has been overlooking the sessions whilst me and Alex get on with our work. Then in the afternoon I hit the pads with Freddie and go through the game plan for Saturday night.

We know how we're going to approach this fight and what strategy we are going to use. Freddie has studied tapes on Peterson and we've been working on some things I'm sure will catch him by surprise.

Fight week involves a lot of promotion ahead of battle so I've got a packed schedule. The media workout is tonight and it gives them the chance to see first-hand what sort of shape I'm in and how dangerous I look. Believe me when I say this won't be a fight to miss because I feel so strong and quick that I know Peterson will have a hard time dealing with what's coming his way.
