Liverpool 1 - 1 Juventus
Huntelaar ----- Elia

Boring scorecard but enthralling game as both sides looked for a win but for some last ditch tackling, the goals didn't tell the story of the game. Liverpool went ahead after Gerrard burst through and his shot rattled the bar and from the rebound, Huntelaar was the quickest to react. Liverpool let Juve come on to them and Cavani's strong header was saved superbly by Friedel and moments later Enrique cleared off the line from Wallcott's tame finish. It looked like Liverpool will take all three points but when Del Piero came on, he found a stunning pass to Elia who took Anyukov with easy and buried it low and hard for a dramatic equaliser. Both teams looked for the winner but unsucceeded. Both teams deserved something from this game.
--------------
Inter Milan 0 - 2 Real Madrid
-------------------- Ronaldo, Mata

Madrid were second best early on as Inter tried to dominate and take the initiative to attack Madrid from the start with the crowd behind them. However, Madrid's defence were strong and gave no easy pickings to the Inter attack. Inter get to 1 vs 1 when Hazard was put through but Tevez and his shot was superbly tipped ove the bar by Cudicini. Madrid then started to pass the ball quicker and it was Torres' fantastic run and pass to Ronaldo that broke the deadlock. Ronaldo with an easy tap-in after Torres raced past Samuel. De Rossi and Alonso exerted their dominance in midfield as they made Inter chase the ball and with that Ronaldo started the counter and assisted for Mata's powerful volley. However, Madrid sat back and was content with that result because Inter found it hard to break their midfield and defence.
----------------
Bayern Munich 1 - 1 Arsenal
Ribery ---------------- Benzema

Arsenal lost out on a victory due to not shutting the game out when they were ahead and seemed to attack with their personnel. Arsenal started the brighter with Ozil finding Benzema and he cooly finished past Neuer. Arsenal were frustrating Bayern by passing the ball quicker and not letting Bayen near the ball. Arsenal midfield suddenly lost their position as a crunching tackle by Schweinstiger egged the crowd on and from that tackle he released Ribery who went past Song and unleashed a vicious shot for an equaliser. Bayern were in control now but had only a few mins to find a goal. However, Arsenal made changes to their midfield so that they could hold on. They should have brought them on earlier on when winning to be honest.
--------------
Man City 2 - 2 Man Utd
Di Maria --------- Ibrahimovic, Wellbeck
Van Persie

Fantastic game and pity both sides could not take three points before they all produced a sensational game of football. Di Maria opened the scoring with a cheeky chip over De Gea. Utd equalised with Ibrahomovic finishing off a great passing display. Both posts were rattled and it seemed Van Persie's bullet shot would be the match-winner but Utd true to their tradition scored in the 95th minute when Kaka put through Nani and he looked up to see Wellbeck in the far post and Wellbeck nodded home. City were gutted and Utd celebrated like they won. Fantastic game
----------------
AC Milan 1 - 2 Tottenham
Drogba -------- Robben (2)

Spurs had to thank Robben who produced to wonder goals against a well organised Milan defence. Milan took the lead as Drogba muscled his way past Ekotto and toe-poked his shot for the lead. Milan were hard to break down as Ramires and Van Bommel helped the Milan defence from attacks. It was a solo run by Robben who flew past Van Bommel and then Zambrotta and walked around the keeper for a fantastic equaliser. Milan then decided to attack and annoyed that the ref didnt award a pen after Pato was clearly tripped by Busquets but the ref played on. Robben then produced another marvellous goal when VDV flew over a great cross and Robben from 15 yards volleyed home an unstoppable shot for the winner.

Chelsea 3-1 Barcelona

Rooney x 3; Alves

It's not often I'm going to say this but I honestly think this Chelsea team is more than a match for the Barcelona team. They're set up well although they could do with a top class CB. I think for Barcelona Xavi is wasted in a DM role and they don't have any game changers on the bench. Chelsea take the lead and never look back in this game.

Liverpool 2-1 Juventus

Huntelaar x 2; Cavani

This is a good, solid Liverpool side with good attacking talent. Juventus definitely have to play Krasic on the wing and not in the centre of the park. I think the strength of the Juve defence keeps the score down but Cavani nicks a consolation.

Inter 0-0 Madrid

It's a game evenly balanced. Madrid are lacking a bit up front with Mata on the wing and Torres actually playing and Inter a bit short at the back but do have more up front. My advice for Real is to dump Torres on the bench, play Mata as an AM and get a LW. My advice for Inter is to play Hazard on the wing and get a couple of good defenders. The Inter defence is good but if they go up against serious pace they will be torn apart.

Man City 2-3 Man Utd

Di Maria, Van Persie; Nani x2, Valencia

Two superteams here. City have a decent set up but I think De Jong is better than Toulalan so that's something to think about. I like the set up of the Man Utd side too. Essien and Lampard remain a bit of a mystery as they have been lacking recently for different reasons but they're enough to see this game through. Utd's wingers win this match for me.

Spurs 2-0 AC

Bale, Robben

This is a good Spurs team against an old AC team. Gaitan has to be played out on the wing and not in the centre of the park. I think the AC team is quite old at the back and the pace of the Spurs wingers win the day.

Chelsea 2-2 Barcelona
Ivanovic, Aguero: Messi (2)

Home side will be desperately unlucky not to have won the game but a team with Messi in their side is always dangerous. Adriano did well to keep Silva quiet for the first half an hour but the Spaniard had the last laugh as he played a terrific reverse ball on the right flank into Ivanovic who's effort flew in at the near post much to Valdes' disappointment. Silva then assisted Aguero for the second goal as it was his lofted ball that was helped on into the net by Aguero for 2-0. However, as the second half ensued, Barca were seeing more of the ball and Messi soon drew them level by the hour mark with 2 trademark runs and neat finishes. Chelsea however, hit the bar twice late on through Rooney which would have sealed a top notch win. As it was, a draw was the outcome.

===
Liverpool 2-0 Juventus
Huntelaar (2)

The home side had the better of things from start to finish in this one. The experience of Stankovic and the composure of M'Vila meant that they were able to dictate play and put the team on their way to creating chances for the front men. Huntelaar grabbed the opening goal with a powerful effort which bounced off the inside of both posts before finding its way over the line. The dutchman doubled the home sides lead in the second half heading home a Gerrard free kick. Late on, Juve's Marchisio thought he had pulled one back but his effort was ruled out for handball in the build up and as it was, 2-0 was the final score.

===
Bayern 1-0 Arsenal
Kroos

Difficult to assess Arsenal's formation with Goetze for me playing out of position. However, both teams made for an entertaining game with chances a plenty. Mario Gomez was the man outlet for the home side and should have put them 1 up but when 1 on 1, his effort rolled just past the post. Down the other end, Ozil almost found the net but for the brilliance of Neuer. The only goal of the game came early in the second half via Toni Kroos. Despite a period of pressure in the second half, Arsenal couldn't find the break through and the score remained 1-0 till the end.

===
Man City 0-0 Man United

A game that offered so much on paper delivered so little. The game was much about the midfield meaning chances were few and far between. Ibrahimovic had a shout for a penalty but nothing else was of major interest in the match.

===
AC Milan 1-2 Tottenham
Pato: VDV, Falcao

A terrific win for the away side against a tricky opponent. VDV put the home side ahead with a deflected drive from 25 yards which left Abbiati stranded. From this, the home side began to take control of the match and Pato levelled matters from a tight angle. However, Tottenham were not dead and buried. As the game was petering out into what was to be a draw, an AC Milan corner was cleared and the ball fell to Robben who along with Falcao began a counter attack running the length of the pitch before the Dutchman squared the ball to Falcao who put his laces through the ball and scored the winner.

Post by Hodgey Wed Feb 29, 2012 12:33 pm

Chelsea 1-2 Barcelona
Aguero
Iniesta, Villa

Barcelona had just about enough to overcome Chelsea despite playing below par. It is a strange time for the Catalans as manager Fluxy seems reluctant to improve his side, the loss of captain Puyol for Albiol particularly mystifying. Barca's midfield were still strong but Xavi looked extremely frustrated with his holding midfield role, whilst Yaya was wasteful with his advanced position. Luiz simply couldn't deal with Villa's threat and the Spanish striker had a great game. Ivanovic struggled with Messi too, although the Argentine staggeringly failed to score.

=====

Liverpool 3-1 Juventus
Gerrard, Kuyt, M'Vila
Cavani

Cherries persists with his attacking formation away from home and his side were comfortably beaten yet again. This time, though, their opponents were significantly weaker than Barcelona which just indicates the mountain Juventus have to overcome in order to improve. The defence looks vulnerable, particularly the left-hand side, whilst the midfield is worryingly bare. Liverpool have a tenacious midfield and easily dominated that battle today. Owing to their offensive formation, Juventus were bound to score and got a consolation late on through good work from Cavani, but goals from Gerrard, M'Vila and Kuyt already killed the tie.

=====

Inter Milan 1-2 Real Madrid
Hazard
Ronaldo, Mata

Guv has a good side here but Real Madrid's side is exceptional, even in the absence of their captain Iker Casillas. Madrid will more than likely push Barcelona all the way this season in the title-race as their midfield is particularly strong. Their wingers, Ronaldo and Mata, are amongst the best in the world and would cause any side problems, never mind Inter Milan's experienced yet slow defence. Inter's midfield is a strong outfit, although Lucho sticks out like a sore thumb. Real Madrid's defence though is very tight and they were unfortunate to concede, Hazard's strike slipping through Cudicini's grasp. The young marvel revelled in his central role.

=====

Bayern Munich 1-1 Arsenal
Kroos
Benzema

Two evenly matched teams deservedly drew at the Allianz. Both teams have strong midfields leading to an intriguing battle, but the home side prevailed considering the world-class sitting partnership they have. Despite this, they showed the risk of no tackling defensive midfielder as they were sometimes exposed by Vidal's persistence and Gotze's creativity. Macclads got his formation spot-on today to combat Bayern's threat and exploit their weaknesses, namely their defence. The front-three the Gunners boast would frighten most defences, and, despite Bayern's strength in this department, they conceded late-on. Boateng is the weakness and he particularly struggled to deal with Benzema, who equalised after an early Kroos header broke the deadlock.

=====

AC Milan 0-1 Tottenham
Robben

Spurs' midfield is formidable and YI Man owes a lot of gratitude to their performance today as they were instrumental in overcoming a spirited, yet not particularly strong, Milan side. At the back, the hosts were firm and gave little away. However, the midfield is their vulnerability as I'm sure Fisher is aware. Arguably, all of Spurs' midfield are stronger than their counter-parts. Milan approached the game in the right manner, attacking from the off. However, Spurs defence looked resolute and let nothing pass. Ledley King looked to be struggling slightly with the pace of the game and could perhaps be an area for improvement. Radamel Falcao also made no impression on the game. As for the hosts, it is vital Fisher adds steel and creativity to his midfield.

Fantasy European League™ - Round 2 Empty Re: Fantasy European League™ - Round 2

Post by Cor Blimey Guvnor Wed Feb 29, 2012 6:39 pm

Chelsea 1 - 1 Barcelona
Rooney ------ Villa

Very tight between these two. Barca have the edge overall, just, but being at home helped Chelsea grab a point. They have the marginally stronger defence which kept the potent Barca attack quiet for the most part. The midfield shield in front of the back 4 was crucial as well.

Liverpool 0 - 0 Juventus

Both sides have good players but both have weaker areas as well. Against the top teams these weaknesses may get exploited but neither had quite enough to do so here resulting in a stalemate.

Bayern 1 - 1 Arsenal
Feud --------- Neymar

These are two good looking sides. Bayern were stronger defensively, Arsenal offensively although the Gunners were forced to field a makeshift back 4. The two sides strengths and weaknesses evened out to result in s point each.

Man City 1 - 0 Man Utd
RvP

Not much between these two sides. Both have excellent defences which made life tough for the respective attacks but City edge this in midfield and a more consistent goal scored in van Persie who nicked the points today.

AC Milan 0 - 1 Tottenham
-------------------- Falcao

An ever improving Spurs side proved too good for their hosts who struggled to match the London club in midfield and this wad where the game was won. If Spurs continue to improve they will be the surprise package.

chelsea 1-1 barca
rooney
sanchez

an even game with both sides having equal amount of chances

inter 1-1 real
hazard
ronaldo

similar formations from both sides and inter's experienced back 4 coped well with real's forwards

bayern 1-2 arsenal
reus
ozil x 2

arsenal's attack got the better of bayern in this match. arsenal's midfield had enough in it to contain the bayern midfield and their forwards but bayern did get a consolation late on when reus pounced on a mistake by song who was filling in at CB

mancity 1-1 manutd
sneijder
nani

both very strong teams cancel each other out

milan 0-1 spurs
bale

spurs' wingers gave milan's fullbacks a torrid time. also spurs dominated the game in the center of the park and were unlucky that they only scored 1 goal

Chelsea 1 - 1 Barcelona
Aguero : Messi

Depends how you look at this one - will it be the Chelsea from that epic Champions League final or the Chelsea of present? The way they are set up, I like their balance and I think they could potentially match Barca in midfield.

It would be a dogged display but I reckon Chelsea could go ahead from a set piece. Barca will keep knocking though and the little magician does enough to get the draw.

Liverpool 2 - 1 Juventus
Gerrard, Kuyt : Cavani

The visitors threatened through their pacey attack but were found wanting at the back through two fantastic counter attacks from Liverpool. Juve were unable to find any rhythm down the left flank which halted their influence on the game. Pretty structured performance from the home side who looked comfortable throughout.

Inter 1 - 2 Madrid
Cazorla : Ronaldo (2)

A decent battle in midfield which kept the sides even at half time. Inter threatened and Hazard looked decent throughout. Madrid's defence seemed to cope with the attacks though.

The main difference was Madrid's attack against the tired legs of Inter, and they were able to carve holes in their defence. Ronaldo started to drift inside a lot more and picked up both the goals for the visitors, one of them an absolute worldy from 30 yards.

Bayern 1 - 2 Arsenal
Modric : Gotze, Neymar

Strong performance from the away side. I think they'd be able to cope with Bayern's midfield, with Ozil especially getting back to help out. Whilst Arsenal's defence isn't brilliant, it's experienced enough to cope with Bayern's threats. A disaster from 'flappy handski' gave Bayern a lifeline, but they couldn't get the extra goal needed for the draw.

Milan 2 - 3 Spurs
Pato, Ferdinand : Falcao, Robben, Bale

Goals, goals, goals! Both attacks look dangerous, but perhaps lack a bit at the back. The Spurs wingers, in particular, would have a field day against the AC full backs. Pato has the ability to cause disruption and Sturridge against tired legs would threaten. Spurs, in the end though, do just enough to snatch the win - Bale popping up from nowhere to fire it in.

Chelsea 3 v 1 Barca
Rooney, Podolski, Silva - Villa

There’s the sayings like ‘don’t rock the boat’ or ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ which seems to be the philosophy at the Nou Camp at present. But as shown in real life there are still weakenesses in what many feel is the greatest club side to have ever existed. Their first line of defence is attack because they’re so comfortable on the ball but the teams that have been assembled like Chelsea I believe have it in them to both unsettle the players and take the game to them.

Liverpool 2 v 0 Juve
Hunterlaar x2
Feel a bit sorry for FC the manager of Liverpool as he’s go a team that no-one wants to deal with but he has quietly brought in some quality players like M’Vila, Hunterlaar & Lavezzi and there’s certainly the making of a decent side building there. Juve need some steel still in the middle of the park and Marchisio will get overrun.

Inter Milan 0 v 0 Real Madrid
Two very strong teams in certain areas but both certainly have weakenesses, Madrid have 2 or 3 players that are in the squad on name alone rather than form and that costs them a victory against an old Inter defence (youngest defender is 31).

Man City 1 v 0 Man Utd
RVP
The defensive partnership at the back for Utd is for me the strongest in the league. Ahead of that though I’m less keen with again players that seem to be judged on name rather than form. City too have a player badly out of form in Sneijder but I see them picking up a win through Di Maria.

AC Milan 0 v 2 Tottenham
Falcao, Robben
Tottenham have vastly improved their squad since the season began whilst AC have perhaps slipped behind losing their star defender and main striker whilst replacing them with the aging Ferdinand and Drogba. The main concern I’d have for Spurs is that both of their holding midfielders are temperamental under pressure and I can see a few games where one of them gets an early bath.

Fantasy European League™ - Round 2 Empty Re: Fantasy European League™ - Round 2

Liverpool 2 - 0 Juventus
Huntelaar, Gerard

I like the way Liverpool team are set out, and is built from the back to the front, which gives them a very solid spine through the team. This in turn allows the team from Merseyside a good amount of possession and overwhelm Marchisio who is in a losing battle on his own in the centre of the Juventus midfield. In the end two well created goals from the Liverpool midfield win this one for the team in front of the Kop.

Inter Milan 1 - 2 Real Madrid
Hazard - Ronaldo, De Rossi

A good game here which was interesting when both managers went for very similar tactics. The Inter Milan team took an early lead, through the precocious Hazard - as he bent an effort home from the edge of the box. However as the game wore on you could see the quality of the Madrid come through, firstly a long range effort from Ronaldo to equalise. Then as the momentum turned De Rossi rose above the rest at corner and stole all three points for a well earned result at the cost of Inter

Bayern Munich 1 - 2 Arsenal
Gomez - Benzema, Oxlade Chamberlain

I love the back four of the Bayern side, and the midfield sat in front of them complement each other well. From that solid base the Bayern side create some very telling chances early on but can't capitalise. But it is in fact Arsenal who strikes first through Benzema, with a trademark powerful finish just outside the box. But as the game wears on, the Bayern midfield dominate and steal an equaliser from Gomez as Ribery whips in a wicked in swinging free kick. But in the end Arsenal steal a winner as the limited bench from Bayern doesn't allow them to change the game much when needed. So as Oxlade Chamberlain comes on to change the pace of the game, Arsenal hit Bayern on the break with a smash and grab effort from Neymar.

Man City 2 - 1 Man Utd
Van Persie, Sneijder - Ibrahimovic

A brilliant game in the city of Manchester, but it's the noisy neighbours who come away with the bragging rights from this battle. The City midfield gets a stranglehold on the game and boss the possession for the home side. They take an early lead through the creativity of Sniejder and Fabregas as the put Van Persie through in space in the box, we he would find it more difficult to miss in his current run of form. United manage to grab a leveller with a spectacular solo effort from Ibrahimovic, but the sky blues pull ahead with a Sneijder free kick in the last quarter of the game.

AC Milan 2 - 1 Tottenham
Drogba, Pato - Robben

A tough one here as I like the Tottenham team, but a short bench hurts them here as when the game gets into the late stages, they struggle to make any game changing substitutes. However saying that they show themselves well in this game, but I can't see past a strong Milan team at home. Drogba gives them an early lead with a powerful finish from within the box, and then Pato follows up with a quick double as he went on a mazy run and slotted home. Spurs managed to grab one back but in vein as Robben picked the ball up just in the Milan half played a sublime one-two with Van Der Vaart and slotted home in the far corner.

Chelsea 1-1 Barcelona
Rooney-----Sanchez

A good match and the home side managed to match Barcelona. Adriano was given a tough time on the left for Barcelona. Chelsea defended surprsignly well, but Messi at times, obviously troubled them. Goals from Rooney and Sanchez meant this was a deserved draw.

Liverpool 2-0 Juventus
Lavezzi, Huntelaar

A comfortable win here. The attacking class of Liverpool was just too much for Juve and with the open attacking formation they played, they were cut open. Juventus created chances themselves, but Liverpool always looked the better team and Lavezzi and Huntelaar scored the goals.

Inter 0-1 Real Madrid
Ronaldo

A good win away for Real Madrid. Inter looked a bit slow and sluggish and although their defence is experience, it was outclassed really. It was a tight game, but Ronaldo won the game with a great strike.

Bayern 1-1 Arsenal
Ribery-----Benzema

An entertaining match, and a draw a fair result. The midfield battle was interesting and some of the football played was sublime at times. Ribery put the home side ahead but Benzema equalised.

Man City 2-1 Man Utd
Van Persie----Nani
Forlan

A great Manchester derby and the home advantage told in the end. Van Persie put City ahead before a resurgent United levelled. It was end to end and could have gone either way, but City finished the game stringer and sub, and former United old boy Diego Forlan hit the winner.
