Tale end of his career is a difficult watch especially watching some of his earlier fights as comparison.

Someone from the admin team should email Coxy and let him know.

Joking aside, good work again, Union. Great collection for an outstanding fighter. I doubt there's anyone amongst us who hasn't watched Jones-Toney at least once, but if there is, then they should take this opportunity.

One of those gyys I could watch over and over again. A man who would have been a great fighter in any era and would have gave any top fighter around 160-175lbs a real headache.

As great as a talent Roy was thats not in doubt, however whenever I look at Roys resume I always feel disappointed, it could have been so much better, some many great fights missed out on.

I always felt the problem with Jones is that there wasnt enough great fights there for him.

Although maybes not Roys fault, Michaelswki (excuse the spelling), Calzaghe, Eubank, Benn, McClellan etc.. Surely shove been addressed at some point rather than a lot of non entities in his pomp.

Actually there was talk of a eubank and benn vs roy jones - if I remember correctly - Benns destruction of gman put roy off - Roy was good friends with mclellan and surprisingly enough Jones said something about Eubank beating him - he might beat me but I would take nearly everything he got for the price of beating me. we both would never be the same. Either that or the giddiness i'm feeling now its time to go home is making me make stuff up Laugh. Can anyone confirm?

In fairness to Jones, there wasn't much of a time frame in which a McClellan fight could take place given how things unfolded for him. Not sure we can really hold that against Roy too much, although I agree it would have been an interesting match up.

Michaelczewski, for me, is the only real big blotch on his copy book, and even then I'd say that Dariusz shoulders more of the blame for that one never happening. Although given the glass half empty routine so many seem to play when it comes to Jones, I half suspect that had he totally dominated Michalczewski before knocking him out late, his critics would still dismiss it as just another case of Jones feasting on an overmatched 'bum.'

A decade-long run as a generally accepted and widely acclaimed top two / three (at worst) pound for pound fighter, with many seeing him as number one for the duration - pretty unique in the modern era, I'd say.

Don't want to derail things but have always placed the blame at Jones' for the DM fight not happening but much of that is done to the disgraceful way in which the governing bodies treated the pole, could never agree with them taking his claim to the 175lb division away from him.

Only Michaelsewski and Calzaghe were around when Jones was at his best really. Eubank, Benn and McClellan were more or less on the way out once Jones had beaten Toney and really emerged as a top pound for pound talent.

Would tend to blame the other two more than Jones for those fights not happening, or in Calzaghes case happening sooner.

I think he should have probably should tried to pull out the stops more for the Michaelswecki fight but I get the feeling if Jones won as I would expect him to that Darius would have become seen as pretty ordinary. He also semed pretty content to stay in Europe fighting lesser opposition for the most part. Was never too fussed about that fight myself because I think its only really a fight to satisfy the critics, rather than an actual 50/50 fight.

Calzaghe is kind of an odd one because its really only in hindsight that this fight made great sense. It was really only the Lacy fight in 2005/6 that propelled Calzaghe as a big name by which time Jones was pretty shot.

Hopkins II would have been the fight I would have liked to see in 2002/3.

What's interesting is that two of the better fighters Jones faced were before he even won a title in Castro and Vaca, was fairly ambitious matchmaking for a relatively unproven young pro.

He only ever reached the later rounds once if I remember rightly but agree fully, past 4/5 rounds he was there for the taking by any of the top middleweights of the time.

Updated with the disgraceful split decision win against Glazewski.

I get a feeling that this thread is going to end badly.
