Re: County Championship Round 2 Discussion Thread
Durham-Notts looks like the pick of the round. Durham starting there campaign in decent form after skittling the MCCU for 18, but Notts are coming of the back of a good win against Worcs but their batting still looked frail and Onions et al. could take advantage.
Somerset have a tough trip to Warks aswell, which will really be a test of their 4 day credentials. Hopefully some of their big names in the batting line up will step up and get some big runs, whilst it will be interesting to see if Dockrell can continue his form from the first game and if Vernon can continue his wonderful form. A Woakes-less Warks should be a side that we should aim to beat if we want to compete for this title.

Somerset being outclassed by a far superior side. Simple.

Overall, the batsmen fared very poorly today. Only one side reached 200, and the best performance, remarkably, from Gloucs at 195 - 4.

Close of play scores updated in the opening post. A truly dreadful day for the batsmen - no 100s, hardly any 50s, one total over 200.

Re the "weak-looking Gloucestershire outfit" mentioned here last week scoring 180 and 146.
Before you condemn us totally, perhaps you may like to consider the following all out (or "for 10 declared" as the BBC recently called it) scores so far this season:
Gla 95, Lei 110, Not 118, Gla 124, Lan 124, Dur 129, Der 130, Wor 130, Nor 132, Nor 134, Som 147, Not 161, Mid 175, Gla 183, Sus 196.
Pah!! Maybe not so weak after all. (Though we did lose by an innings and some.....)

I feel you are very reliant on unproven players. Your key man, Will Gidman, would struggle to get into many First Division sides and you haven't strengthened from last year. I don't think you'll finish dead bottom but can't revoke my 'weak-looking' comment.

Scores updated in the opening post
Notts and Sussex well on top in their games, Warks ahead against Somerset but reasonably close. Still honours even at Lord's.
Glamorgan and Northants look headed for defeat in Division Two, whilst Gloucs are in a strong position in a (relative to this week's games) high-scoring match at the Rose Bowl.

With only 1 wicket left, Glam about to fall to Derbys.
Unless Wales is bathed in sunshine, it seems mighty odd that Glam persist in playing their experienced slowies Croft and Cosker.

Couldn't believe the score. I left them 80 odd-2, thinking they had a decent chance, especially after the openers had given them a good platofrm. I next see the score at 93-9, I had to check twice because I thought they got the score from the 1st innings when bowled out for 95, then realised that was not the case. My word what a dreadful batting display. Its overcast here in Cardiff so i'm assuming that the bowl was moving about a bit. Still no excuse for that batting display.
I bet Marcus North cannot wait to join the team. Although my feeling this year is Glammy are prioritising the 20/20, keeping Simon Jones away from county games for example. Makes sense, keep best players fresh and try and get to finals day which is, you guessed it, Cardiff this year. More money for the county but they haven't got the side to get to finals day anyway. Good idea but Its not going to happen. These youngsters need to start producing with the bat otherwise it could be a fight out with Glos for bottom spot, although Glos' young batsmen haven't done too bad this year.

Martyr - sorry to add to your gloom but with so many CC games crammed into April and May, Glam are going to be well adrift at the bottom if they don't get their act together soon.

A really dramatic days cricket today, with wins for Sussex, Derbyshire and Kent and Notts just one wicket away. Particularly impressive performances from Jon Clare, Steve Maggofin and Mat Coles though I can't help but feel that some of the batting must be very poor for so many wickets to go down.
Close of play scores in the opening post.

Somerset Warks is coming down to a dramatic finish. If my maths is right, Warks need 259 to win and are currently 216-8 at lunch after a collapse today!

Average from Somerset. Warks need 2 to win with 2 wickets left still. Patel, from 10, has got 42 off 35. Distinctly average from us.

Three exciting finishes today - As well as Middx-Surrey, we've had Jeetan Patel getting Warks over the line with some big-hitting against Somerset and Gloucs bowling out Hampshire with 14 balls to spare.

Here's a brief summary of mine on the Warks v Somerset match.
http://andy-bloxham.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/warwickshire-v-somerset-edgbaston-day_15.html
A bit of a thriller in the end, though Warks didn't half make hard work of it after manoeuvring themselves in to a strong position. Somerset will be disappointed that they let Warks off the hook after that middle order collapse, but Patel's innings was quite superb.
