Interesting point. I would imagine probably not on this occasion, but in the past they have been. Durham and Middx don't have a game anyway, but if Bresnan doesn't play I guess he could join Yorks.

Unbeaten in div 2 clap, Leics haven't been dire (much better than last year) and Essex have a habit of slipping up against supposedly easier opponents which is the reason you've never won the T20 cup!

fair point gregers, however if the weather is set fair it really should be a routine victory for essex.

Thats the point tho CF, routen victory is the sort of time when Essex slip up. Hence I went for Leics on a gut feeling that it could be this match.

Essex side for game against Leics

Godleman, Petersen, Westley, Pettini, Wheater, Foakes, Foster, Napier, Masters, Mills, Willoughby

still no genuine spinner which is silly IMO....however should be a routine victory for essex.

Worcester side at Sussex;

Mitchell, Klinger, Solanki, Mo Ali, Cameron, Pardoe, Andrew, Scott (W), Jones, Lucas, Shantry.

Fantastic to have Gareth Andrew back in the side after a significant knee operation over the winter. He is roughly two months ahead of schedule in his recovery by being available now, so hats off to the lad. The bad news of course, is that Alan Richardson misses out with the shoulder injury he picked up last week against Surrey. He is expected to be out for around 3 weeks.

Currently Sussex are 30-0

He did get a golden duck for Shropshire on Sunday though, which is clearly more important and a more pressured game than for Hants! Whistle

Good start by Somerset, 80-1. Barrow made 47 off 48 and is the man out, but he is in some good touch after getting runs against Durham in the CB40 on Sunday. I can see Surrey winning this one though. Unless we can score very, very big first innnings their batting line up will score runs and fast against our bowling line up at the moment, bar Philander.

Sussex 81-1 off 25 overs at New Road. Richard Jones picking up the only wicket, that of Joyce for 6 from 50 balls. Jones has 1-22 from 9 overs. Gareth Andrew is currently in the 5th over of his first CC spell of bowling this season. Bowling very well he is too.

Wicket at New Road!

Gareth Andrew, who has bowled a very impressive spell since lunch, has had Chris Nash caught at slip by the skipper Mitchell for 84 (116b, 11x4).

109-2. Goodwin joins the ever so scratchy Wells at the crease.

For those that asked earlier, Tim Bresnan will be allowed to play for Yorks if not selected by England.

Yorks had to nominate a player which will be replaced at the toss. That player is Iain Wardlaw.

Somerset are doing surprisingly well. 242-2 off 52 overs. Suppiah run out by Maynard just after passing his ton, and Compton (63*) and Hildreth at the crease now.

One brings two and two brings three!

Jack Shantry claims two wickets in an over. First, he pins Luke Wells lbw for 37(127, 4x4) and then he has Joe Gatting caught at extra cover by Pardoe for 5(16).
Shantry now has 3-37 from 16 overs. Sussex 167-6. Alan Richardson doing an excellent job of cursing the Sussex batters in the commentary box with Dave Bradley.

He's going to be out for 3-4 weeks Guildford, which is a shame, and a huge blow to us as you say. He's hoping to be available for the final round of CC matches before the T20 break. On the plus side, Gareth Andrew made his comeback for us today, and bowled like a dream considering he has been out for several months after a knee op. His figures of 1-41 from 19 overs don't do him justice. Now if the can get them both fit at the same time we might be on to something good....!

I see your boys took a bit of a bludgeoning down at Taunton. Unlucky to be the first side so far this year to meet the killer combo of clear skies and the Taunton road.

Cheers, Pack.

Your current game seems interestingly poised. As I've suggested before, Lucas isn't the best bowler in the world. However, he certainly seems prepared to put in a shift which is just as well with Ricco out.

Our bludgeoning was actually at the Oval. I'm going tomorrow - I'll try and post any views in the evening.

Ah, my mistake! In all fairness, it isn't unknown for the Oval to be slightly on the flat side either! I look forward to your round up!

Hmm, yeah Lucas is certainly willing. During the afternoon session he disappeared from the field for a while. When asked by Dave Bradley why this was likely to be, Rico replied "well, he's probably had to go to the loo. It gets hard to hold it at his age.". I wish he was in the comms box more regularly when not playing!

I don't think he will, due to the talented keepers around who bat better than he does - Prior, Davies, Bairstow, Kieswetter, Buttler. But he will be a very good asset for Hampshire.

'Who bat better than he does' - he just got a 100 Erm He has worked on his batting alot, he is a brilliant keeper, if he gets his batting consistently good, i dont see why he cant play for England one day. He is only 21

I just don't think it will ever improve that much that he is competing with similarly young guys averaging 40-50 in FC cricket. How good you are as a 'keeper is relevant, though most FC 'keepers are superb anyway. Just a personal view, and happy to be proven wrong.
