163-4 at Worcester, with Mo Ali reaching a half century. Judging by the scoring rate batting seems to be something of a battle at the moment. Moeen and Pardoe at the crease currently.

Slightly disappointing end to the day for Worcs as they finish on 231-7 with a bit of a collapse towards the end. It'll be up to Ben Scott and the tail to drag us nearer to parity.

123 batting at No 7. Looks like he's recapturing some of his youthful batting form. When he first started with Surrey his batting was excellent and it was the bowling that was not quite up to genuine all rounder standard.

Clarke is passed the England stage now. Just a shame that he didn't produce for whatever reason in what theoretically should have been his best years as a cricketer.

We have Derbyshire thrashing Glamorgan, Northants-Kent not really progressed, Leics-Essex quite tight, Somerset well on top of Surrey, Warwicks hammering woeful Lancs, Sussex narrowly ahead against Worcs and Hants-Yorks yet to develop.

Lancs look to be heading for relegation! There's time to turn their season round - but not for all that much longer...

Why? Why do new players in the England set up have to be 21? Surely we should pick players on form?

Form, yes, but it has to be sustained over a number of seasons rather than a few weeks. I would champion a Carberry call up if Strauss or Cook went down, but I think the selection of a Clarke who averages 35 with bat and ball would be going back to the way we picked the team in the '90s.

How long till Gary Ballance's name starts being mentioned as an England candidate?

39 FC matches, 12 100s and an average of 54, though some of that has been in Zimbabwean domestic cricket. 65 not out today.

Is he qualified for England?

Somerset Surrey is setting up tantalisingly. Somerset bowled Surrey out for 388 in their first innings to lead by 124, and they are now 104-3 with Kieswetter 33* off 36 looking likt he wants to set a score. That's a lead of 228 with 4 sessions to go. If we can get another 100 tonight, maybe more that sets us up for half an hour tomorrow morning and then a declaration and a bowl. Draw is still favourite, but it could get fun!

I think so. He has played over here since he was 16 and, as far as I'm aware, isn't a Kolpak. Also, I'd have thought Zimbabwe would have picked him by now if he wanted to play for them.

Fair point about Zimbabwe picking him by now although he has played for the U-19s. Last season was his first real permanent breakthrough and have Zimbabwe had much cricket?

Onto the game, seems Yorkshire are hoping that they'll bowl Hampshire out cheaply and chase down a low total. Unlikely but you never know!

Final day permutations:

Surrey v Somerset - Somerset need to add a few runs and then bowl Surrey out; Surrey win very unlikely
Warks v Lancs - Warks all set to complete victory
Worcs v Sussex - Sussex need to bat for another hour or so, then declare and bowl Worcs out; Worcs can't win

Kent v Northants - Likely draw
Essex v Leics - Likely draw
Yorks v Hants - Likely draw

The game at Canterbury looks fairly tedious. Somerset favourites to win at the Oval but there could be a few twists before that one is settled.
