Robert Kearney
Well it has been a while since i have been on here
Busy since after christmas, i peeked in every now and again.
Before i left around the world cup and before it, the detractors for rob kearney were out in force.
Apparantly the game had changed so much that he would not be able to do anything.
These were irish posters saying he wouldnt play in the wc, he shouldnt play.
He wont play for leinster, he can only catch and kick.
Well i told the posters then he was a brilliant runner ball in hand and would return better then ever
and become the best full back in europe again.
i would now like to see if these posters are man enough to admit that they were wrong about rob.
i wont name names they can come forward themselves.

Re: Robert Kearney
Yup hands up from me, I was one who thought he'd been left behind a bit by the law interpretation changes and that he would struggle to be effective on his return.
I am very happy to have been proved wrong. Kearney has been exceptional..no sensational, since his return last season.
He's been Irelands best player along with Ferris and was a well deserving IRFU player of the season and would be a well deserving ERC player of the year too.
Not only has he proved himself peerless under the high ball again hes been a revelation with his attacking play with Leinster too.
He's also shown real leadership and is probably a front runner to be the next Ireland captain too.
Well done Rob, have a on me....
P.S. I hope you have a shocker on Saturday.....

Re: Robert Kearney
I remember there being a few who said that the way the game is moving Kearny will need to do more than just put boot to ball. But to be perfectly honest his form was not the most impressive post Lions tour, like many of the other returning Lions.

Re: Robert Kearney
Well before you start pointing the fingers (I don't know if I am one of the names or not) Kearney was in ridiculously bad form before the world cup, so the people saying he wasn't good enough were hardly wrong for saying so.. it just so happens that he has returned better than ever, which is great. Nobody was wrong about him when he was out of form though, so I have no idea what point you are trying to make.

I think that is far enough before the World Cup he was in poor form.
I would have said so myself but that is very different from claiming that he could not adapt his game which I did not say.

My observation is merely that D24tress is possibly confusing people who critised him form of which there were many with those who said he could adapt who were very very few in number.

Rodders, there is no point trying to reason with him. All 21 of his posts have been disrespectful rubbish. And for some very strange reason the moderators are telling us all to lighten up, as if this is just a bit of banter. Yes mods, please read this and take note.

Re: Robert Kearney
sorry geoff i should have explained better, his form at the time wasnt bad he was back from injury, but what people were saying was his game wasnt suited to the new laws and they didnt think he could join the line well or counter with any conviction.
i wont name names rodders has come forward and admitted the error of his ways.
Althought i do remember questioning rory best at the time and will hold my hands up to that one.

Thats for the response - one thing is for sure he has been outstanding this year and deserves his European player of the year nomination.

Yup I'm sure I've mentioned it before but I've no problem with it
I've never had anything against Rob but my views last year, in my defence, need to be taken in context. Rob hadn't played well since 2009, Earls had given a superb performance against England and Felix Jones was in excellent form for Munster.
I didn't think the Rob could give us the attacking dimension we needed or could recapture his Lions form.
I'm delighted to be wrong on both accounts. Hes been fantastic and has surpassed his form in 2009 by some distance and has added a new dimension to his attack.

That is so true rodders. Remember how everyone was so impressed with him in 2009? He was one of the best fullbacks in the world. Yet now he is even BETTER than he was then, and he is an absolute danger man on the counter attack, something I had never seen him do on the world stage. Teams fear him now, he is a huge threat. Surely he is the best fullback in the world right now. May his form continue.

Happy days. I knew Kearney would come good again, but even I didn’t expect him to be this good. Effin delighted with his form, long may it continue.

He's amazing under a high ball and a great strike runner, a shoe in for the Lions tour IF his defense improves.

Rob's mum and dad were interviewed yesterday on the radio. Rob's dad said that when at a match he concentrated on the tackles the boys miss, and Rob's mum concentrated on the knocks and bangs they got
Rob's being playing great, but he was poor after the Lions Tour/pre injury. I think everyone worried that he would have the same problem getting back to the player he was as Luke has had such difficulties - mainly with confidence.

I just remember some of the Welsh boys running through him during the 6N/WC and him being clattered 1 on 1 during a few Rabbo games I've seen.

It's funny that guys like him look great playing for wales, whereas in the club game, most of them look very, very ordinary....

George hasn't really played the regional game this season, he has either been with Wales or injured. The season before last though he was a real force in the regional game.
