Olympic Gold Medal Empty Olympic Gold Medal

Post by dancingweeman Wed 25 Jul 2012, 1:05 pm

Just wondered who people were tipping for the mens Olympic Gold?

There's some interesting odds floating around. I quite the look of Belarus e/w @ 66/1.

I know its a bit out there, but they finished 3rd in the Euro U21's last summer to qualify, narrowly losing to Spain aet in their semi final. And their squad this summer is essentially the same. I don't think they'll be a push over for anyone (except perhaps brazil on Sunday).

To reach the final might be a bit beyond them, but I'm tipping them as a dark horse to get a medal.

I think it's between Brazil, Uruguay and Spain.

I'm going for Ghana or another west african country. They traditionally do well at junior and Olympic tournaments. Plus competitive games suit them as the ACON is held every 2 years and are used to group formats.

You're picking Gabon or Senegal then - Ghana didn't qualify.

I reckon Uruguay.

Didn't even realise. I'll stick with Senegal then. They must be good to overcome Ghana, Nigeria and Cameroon.

Brazil are here on a marketing exercise.

As a matter of interest, why is your question related specifically to the men's tournament only..? I'm not attempting to sidetrack the thread, I'd simply appreciate some feedback on this as I am having a similiar debate on this topic in another discussion forum.

For what it's worth, I think Brazil and Spain look the strongest teams in the men's tournament, and USA and Brazil in the women's.

The GBR men's team may very well not progress beyond the group stage, but the women's team have already gained a significant win against New Zealand and if they beat Cameroon, should make the Quarter Finals at least.
