Re: US Open Day 10
More bad weather and they will have to, like last year, push the men's final back to Monday. In fact it would be in the interest of the players if there was more rain. Otherwise they might have to face an even more ridiculous scheduling than normal at the US (if that's possible).

Re: US Open Day 10
Got to with Sharapova. In 3 set matches this year she hasn't lost.
I expect the usual Williams steamroller performance.
Roddick/Del Potro is beautifully poised. Expect Del Potro to come through in 4.
Tipsy is 5-2 up in the first against Kohlschreiber. Hard to see him losing it from that position. Tipsy in 3.
Murray to roll Cilic in 3. Andy has upped his game and it will need something quite special from Cilic to stand a chance.
Eranni to defeat compatriot Vinci in 3.
Now to the big 2.
Djokovic/Wawrinka. Djokovic hasn't given gotten out of first gear yet. Stan is serving very well. Djokovic in 3.
Federer/Berdych. Federer again is looking quite masterful. I don't expect the w/o to have affected him that match. Berdych has been a bit hit and miss. Had Maggy not folded in the manner he did may have taken Berdy close. Federer in 3.

I have looked at the weather forecast and it looks cloudy with a bit of sun at times. I don't think the threat of rain is too high but I wouldn't be surprised if there was a bit.

I will stick by my prediction of yesterday For Del Potro to have too many weapons for Roddick. Del Potro to win in straight sets. I expect Andy Murray to win in similar fashion to Raonic match or perhaps in four sets. Cilic may not have the serve of Raonic but he has an all-round better game than Raonic in my opinion. Roger Federer to win in three or at a push four sets. Djokovic to win in straight sets.

Re: US Open Day 10
Is there anybody who is predicting a Berdych win v Fed? He beat Rog at Wimbledon in 2010 and appears to be playing better. At his best Berdbrain can be a real handful.
Difference this year is that Fed has won the tight matches, including one against Berdych, that in previous years he was losing.

Berdych may get a set off of Federer, IMVHO.
Djokovic in 3 close sets. Ivanovic to surprise, perhaps?
DelPo-Roddick is very much dependent on the TB.
Kohli may be helped a bit by the rain break, perhaps in five.

The forecasts I have seen are for thunderstorms and 80% chance of precipitation, which is what they said yesterday.
David Ferrer is the only player of the remaining 11 who can put his feet up today - pitty the winner of DelPo and Roddick playing a refreshed duracell bunny.
If there's enough clear for a few hours play the big loser of today may be Fed, especially if Murray vs. Cilic plays to a finish. If storms are scattered they'll spend most of the day wiping the Courts down....
Day Sep 5
84°F
High
T-Storms
Chance of rain:80%
Thunderstorms likely this morning. Then the chance of scattered thunderstorms this afternoon. Humid. High 84F. Winds SW at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 80%.

Well the weather forecast I looked at was very wrong. Thanks, The Fed may well miss out hugely today if, as you say, Murray's match is completed. And if the whole day is rained off, Djokovic really suffers. Ferrer must be laughing.

Re: US Open Day 10
Fed could be on a no-play run such as the one he had at a very wet Wimbledon in 07.
Many may recall that Tommy Haas had to withdraw giving Rog a w/o. With the Swiss putting his feet up for something like six days, Rafa and Nole were struggling to finish their matches - Rafa having a particularly prolonged, and surly, contest with the Sod.
The schedule certainly did for Djoko who had to retire against Rafa in the S-F. I also reckon that Rafa was very tired towards the end of a long final with Rog who, after a very close match, ran away with the 5th set 6-2.

Perhaps I'm reading it wrong, but it doesn't say prolonged deluge - it says thunder storms which tend to be shorter duration ... it sounds more like interrupted matches and some delays than no play.

I've looked at several and they all say torrential rain during their morning and then getting lighter and clearing up for the night

Spot on - hence my comment that if the storms come and go they'll spend the afternoon mopping down Courts because they prefer not to use covers at the good old USO. That will lose them some important time no doubt.

IIRC, Federer-Monaco was a quick affair with the threat of rain.

And the fact that they didn't get onto court until about midnight after long match between Fish and Tsonga (I seem to recall).
Fed in definite hurry to get off!

I'm watching a repeat of the Del Potro-Roddick match from yesterday. What's Roddick averaging on his serve these days? And Roddick not afraid to hit a volley directly at Del Potro.

It's fair rattling along, is this match. I wouldn't want to get on Del Potro's bad side. Not only is he tall but he's solid too.

Enjoyable match!
The Azarenka vs Stosur match that they showed earlier was the most exciting women's match that I have seen for ages - impossible to see a clear winner until the last point.

It is indeed. It's nice to see a bit of serve/volley for a change and some delightful passing shots instead of two people bludgeoning each other off the court. I like both styles but this match is nostalgic.

The Dutch are the tallest? That's a real surprise, I thought it would be Russia or America, although I suppose with having a huge population the height mjst vary a lot.
On another note, Sharapova does my head in. Grunting, "Come On!"ing and fist pumping are 3 of the most irritating things about her.

Djokovic serves for the first set v Stan... and throws in a stinker and gets broken.
Just as I was beginning to think these wobbles might have been tidied up.

The dutch are tall because they have so much calcium in their diet when they are young - all that milk and cheese!

YAWN. Delpo hit a big return to win the tie break. Must have been 210 mph. Otherwise very little happening... or atmosphere.

Absolutely unbelievable isn't it? It's not a tennis tournament first and foremost. They are also apologetically pushing out the Mixed Final first thing in the morning.

That first break of serve has thrown him LF. He is rushing and trying to hit a harder serve and Cilic is reading it all day.

Big let off there on that point.
I think Murray is shocked by the fact that Cilic is not spraying the ball and his length has been spot on.
