The Lost Art of Tag Team Wrestling
By Todd Roberg
Forward by Legendary Memphis Wrestling Promoter: Jerry Jarrett

Tag Team Wrestling matches have been an integral part of the sport since it's inception. An exciting division that has created many top stars, as well as drawn huge gates around the world. Yet for some reason it's a dying art form, as evidenced by the lack of interest that the big wrestling promotions appear to have in promoting it.
Here author Todd Roberg examines the psychology of tag team wrestling and looks back on the last great decade of tag team wrestling, the 1980s.
World renowned wrestling photographer Mike Lano's pictures help to illustrate the story that is told by Roberg along with contributors Les Thatcher, James J Dillon, James Beard, Smith Hart, Bryan Alvarez, Dr. Luther and others, a story of the Lost Art of Tag Team Wrestling.

I've wrote so much about the decline in Tag Team Wrestling in the last 4/5 years that I find it hard to write anything now that feels original, I believe there is a place for Tag Team Wrestling in 2012 and feel it could re-capture its former glory if genuine long term teams where assembled and they truly believed that being a World Tag Team Champion was the peak of their business, not just a quick fix avenue to a singles push

Tag-team wrestling used to follow the same tried and tested forumla time and time again. Match begins, a little back and forth, heel team gains upper hand and beats on weaker face member, stronger face eventually gets the hot tag after many near misses, cleans house and faces win clean/heels sneak one.

No matter how many matches you watched, this never seemed to get old. But for it to work, you have to create tag-teams that people care about, else the hot-tag, well, isn't hot. And that's really the crux of the matter. WWE have no appetite for it.
