Novak is just too consistent in his ground strokes. The only chance Roger has is to have a first serve percentage in high eighties for the remainder of the match.

Is it me or does Djokovic enjoying playing while Federer enjoys winning? At least, on the big points. Or Djokovic enjoys the heat of the battle whereas Federer enjoys seeing the winner zoom past the opponent.

After the 6-6 point, that was classic reaction from Djokovic, reminiscent of when about to return 40-15 2 MP down at the US Open. He was enjoying the moment, even though it could have been the moment of defeat or the match turning against him.

After the 6-6 point, Federer is thinking "f~ck yeah" and Djokovic is thinking "hehe, that was a cool point"?

If this was a 5-set match on clay against Djoker or Rafa, physical might count against Federer. But for a 3 set indoor match a comeback is more realistic. Maybe a 1 in 4 chance for Federer now.

What a difference a year and a player makes. Roger's backhand was a potent weapon last year against Rafa. Now, it is breaking down with regularity.

Great to hear the crowd being shut up.

What a 1st set of tennis that was; one of the best this year. So many twists and turns that I'm surprised Novak wasn't in knots. They need to bring out a Novak Djokovic-style Stretch Armstrong this Christmas.

not sure I agree with the comment about Roger's backhand---seems to have been at a similar level to me since 2009. Maybe lower in 2008.

Hit and miss today on the BH, but some beautiful shots in there, a great one in the tiebreak for instance.

What a first game of the set. Rog really has belief and strong tactical feel in this game and surely is targeting the deep backhand esp with slice, but then he gets tired at break point and plays a bad fhe. Poopie. Still wins it though. What a match.

I dunno. Over a BO5 on this surface then yes, probably, but a BO3.... It will be a long match though. I think Fed had to do it in 2 if he was going to have a realistic chance, but he isn't out of it yet by any means.

I really don't think Federer looks any more tired than Djokovic. If anything he looks the fresher of the two to me... though that was a poor DF, so maybe I'm reading it wrong. Really doesn't want to let Djokovic back in here.

Last thing you want before serving it out is to be wiping sweat off your brow and trying to get your breath back. I think he fancied a rest before serving it out. Not saying he was giving it up the game, he could have won it that way, but he was focused on short and relaxing.

When FEd lost serving against 5-4 at US Open, he admitted the momentum change and went on to lose it 7-5. Hm.

Bit of a nervy serve for the set there.
