Alberto Davila - A tribute!!!
Not sure you guys are too aware of Alberto.......A 5ft 2 inch bantamweight who was always a pleasure to watch.....Poor old Alberto never had any luck though!!!
Most of his big fights were bloody wars (most of the blood was his)..but he was the ultimate warrior....
Fought for the title six times against...Zarate, Lujan, Pintor and Lora twice!! (some guys have all the luck)....Only Lujan I believe stopped him....He also had two wars with the irrepressable Duarte.....splitting them 1-1.......
When he won the wbc belt his opponent Kiko Bejines unfortunately passed away soon after....After one defence injury forced him to vacate..
Pintor a great great fighter... was in a lot of eyes lucky to have won the decision in his fight with Alberto....
It was split I believe and old Alberto was unlucky again...
Lovely guy Alberto...modest....always gave his all.....The kind of guy KO once described "Who gets his nose broken trying to break up a fight!!"
Alberto's first and last title fights were ten years apart...and though he did deserve better he always accepted his fate graciously.....always fought the best!!
Think Alberto would be as surprised as any he's getting a heads up on here...
But whatever you are doing Alberto remember some of us appreciated you!!........and here is a heads up!!
You deserve it Mate..

this is a tribute to a top quality bantamweight who I enjoyed immensely....
Tough, courageous fighter....full of heart.
Take your wise-cracks elsewhere.

Re: Alberto Davila - A tribute!!!
Davide, doubt truss got his info from wiki, If he did he'd probably have got more of his facts right!
Davila was stopped on cuts a few times, including by zarate, but the only guy to stop him (not on cuts) was gomez. Davila got his stroke of luck (if you can call it that), when he won the wbc bantamweight title after pintor vacated. Even then it was sadly tainted when kiko bejines, the opponent he had just knocked out died a few days later from injuries sustained in the fight. This coming only 3 years after Johnny Owen died in similar tragic circumstances after a fight with Pintor for the same belt. Davila defended once, then lost his belt when injury stopped him from defending it.
I think we can safely assume that truss was going from memory and that with advancing years that memory is a little rusty, like mine!
Happy to admit I got my info from a little desk research about a name that held only a vague passing memory for me, so thanks for the tribute Truss... he certainly fought some quality and some big big punchers.
