Really hope this isn't true because it'll be just another incident where boxing gets dragged through the mud.

Or consider Yuriorkis Gamboa, a rising boxing star who won a gold medal for Cuba in the 2004 Athens Olympics before defecting to Miami two years later. Gamboa has compiled a 22-0 record and has won WBA and IBF featherweight titles since coming to the States.

In the 2009 notebook, Bosch outlines an extensive program he was shipping to Gamboa. In addition to protein powders and calcium/magnesium/zinc compounds, he included a six-day-a-week HGH regime, IGF-1, and a cream with 20 percent testosterone.

What's more, Bosch even notes that Gamboa's next bout is scheduled against Brandon Rios the following April and writes, "Start clean-up Dec. 1" — presumably giving the boxer enough time to pass doping tests. (The fight against Rios was later canceled, but Gamboa won two other fights by TKO and KO that January and February.)

I might just stop watching modern boxing and start backtracking through video pre-1990ish. Should be enough to keep me going...

There was probably doping in that period aswell.

Pretty strong evidence against Gamboa there. Sport, in general, is a mess with PEDs.

This will be brushed under the carpet and forgotten about for his next fight.

I do hope we see more of these stories about PEDS in boxing because it may lead to somebody or a body taking serious steps to get rid of it.

Defo, cynical is usually right these days. And if we can expose them all that be great. I think a lot of the boxers now think, "F it, they'll be on it, so why shouldn't I?"

Berto and Peterson are just two more examples of how little is done. Andre Berto especially. He looks like a PED user for god sake! See what happens when he comes off them. He gets the sh** knocked out of him by a lessor guy, bullied, and puffs up like a marsh mellow! Drugs please!

The genie is out of the bottle. PEDs are here to stay especially as the chemists are often one step ahead of the testers. In boxing it is probably worse seeing at the governing bodies can be bought out to protect a named fighter.

Yep Berto is a disgrace. Traded on his explosivness and speed which were most prob enhanced by PEDS and when he is off them he gets exposed as a fighter with a very poor skill set.

Thats how damaging these things can be for the sport. PED takers opt for power and endurance and forsake skill.

Defo, becomes a sting contest. PED's just get their name changed and chemicals are mixed differently so that they are no longer called whatever the banned ones are. There are scientists employed as 'nutritionists' to do this ****.

It's a sad state of affairs when there is only 1 fighter in the world that we "know" isn't on PEDs because he's the only guy who is on all year random testing

PEDs is a problem for all types of sport but for a contact sport where people's lives are at risk it just cannot be allowed

3 articles today about problems in boxing. PEDs (Gamboa), weigh divisions/hydrating (Matthysse) and crooked/egotistical promoters (Arum)

Sad thing is I doubt that in 5 years time anything will be better. As people have said the people who administer the drugs are always a step ahead of the testers and promoters aren't really fans but business men

Berto had a trace amount in his system - billionth of a part - probably from trace contamination - thats from Vada not from him. Stupid and he ought to be punished but that doesnt put him on the same level as mosely for example.

You can be that more than half of professional boxers would all get banned

There is not 1 single reason (ok maybe it's expensive that the journeymen of this world cant afford) for a clean fighter not to subject themselves to tests like this, ergo the boxers do not want these tests as they are (or have) or most likely using some sort of substance

Haven't read through the story yet... But I'm just shocked that a PED story wasn't posted by me haha. Good find Paul!

The drug problem could easily be lessened if the governing bodies wanted it to be. If you want a top ten ranking you have to submit to all year random testing, it can't be that expensive to keep tabs on and randomly test 10 people from each weight class. I would love to see which boxers would opt out of a top ten ranking because they don't want to be tested.
