Champions Trophy - England and Wales 2013

We have had a few prediction/ speculation type threads but this will be the discussion thread for matches in the Champions Trophy which starts this morning.

The first game is India v South Africa at the Swalec Stadium, Cardiff.

No Steyn, Ingram opening.

I would've liked Alviro opening

This chap Dhawan seems keen on trying to run himself out

Tsotsobe and Kleinvelt have been rubbish so far I have to say. Mistaking back of a length for halfway down is not a recipe for success.

The pitch should favour SA more, a bit of pace and bounce and some zip off the wicket, but SA have gotten overexcited...

They have both been very inconsistent, hence I have little faith in our ODI team.

Man! this is a poor bowling attack.

Pathetic bowling thus far.

Morne was impressive.

Tsotsobe, McLaren and Kleinveldt have been pathetic.

Looks like we'll be chasing a big total...

Poor bowling but also a good start by India, fantastic foundation laid by the openers. Is it too early to talk about 300+?

Dhawan pulls the ball to deep fine leg, Morne runs in and the ball sails over his head...

I'm not finding this lacklustre effort amusing...

No I'd say 300-340 is on the cards here.

Proteas don't seem to understand how to pitch the ball up.

Gee Whiz Dhawan is taking Robbie Peterson apart here...

I have said so many times that robin Petersen won't make any other international team and I stick by it, I also don't believe McLaren and Rory Kleinveldt are of international quality.

How is it possible to have this much poor bowling in our ODI team, they all average 30 plus with the ball, they have no significant batting nous and concede on average 5 runs per over.

That is three players of non international standard in the team.

What am I missing?

This isn't a case of having three all rounders in your team, you can't call them bowling all rounders, neither can you call them batting all rounders, they are three guys who can bat a bit and bowl a bit.

Collectively they will concede at least 150 runs In their 30 overs for 4 wickets. Pathetic.

Politics?

Tsotsobe, Morkel, Kleinvelt, McLaren has to be one of the worse South African pace bowling attacks in recent years surely?

The Indian batsmen have played well, but apart from 3 cover drives from Dhawan they've just put away the bad balls. That there have been so many of them tells you how SA have bowled.

I think injuries are to blame BB.

Philander is injury prone so he's saved only for Tests.

De Lange, baby Steyn for me, still not back to 100%.

I like Chris Morris. Tall, aggressive and quick.

Tsotsobe, Kleinveldt and McLaren should be axed.

McLaren continues to test the middle of the pitch and Dhawan cops a mighty hit on the side of the head!

India on for 350+ unless South Africa get some wickets pronto.

The bowling of SA does make a bit of humorous reading though.

Removing all the OAPs, they seem a lot more agile and mobile. Taking quick singles, 1s into 2s etc.

The change is mindset in refreshing.

Now we're supposed to double the score at 30 overs aren't we? There's an outside possibility, growing all the time, of India getting 375+.

The guy has an economy rate of 4.76, was the quickest South African to 50 wickets, and takes a wicket every twenty-nine balls. Why on Earth should he be dropped because of one bad game??

Kleinveldt on the other hand needs a freaking fat camp!! Then he needs to use that inspiration to retire from cricket and become a personal trainer.

Lightning can strike twice yes, but not in the same spot. We're in for a hiding here, by memory I heard commentators in Sa say sometime earlier in the year that our success rate when chasing 250 plus has been very poor of late, to lazy to check it out.

It will be another disappointing ICC tournament for us with a bowling attack this incompetent. Just remember none of these guys know how to bowl at the death, so we are only seeing the appetizer at the moment, the main dish will still be served by India in the form of a HOT, HOt, Curry in the last 10 overs.

Tsotsobe has struggled since march mate. But I agree it isn't him that should be dropped, they must drop Peterson, McClaren and Kleinveldt.

Tsotsobe is actually get worst by each match that passes

When he reached 50 wickets, he averaged 19

His average is now 24, he's been figured out.

First ODI ton of his career for him, well played.

He wasnt going to average 19 in ODI cricket forever, and this is what? his 10th ODI back from injury? On the list players facing the chop, he would be pretty far down. Kleinveldt needs to go.

Great innings so far from Dhawan, and you still feel as if he's got another couple of gears to move up. Scary

ABDV fluffs a stumping of Dhawan, that might be very expensive...

The average is irrelevant at present

It's the lack of pace.

Before he got injured he was around 129-133kph

Now he's 120-125kph most of the time

That's cannon fodder to high class batsmen

This is why I never watch Sa in any ICC tournament, they WILL disappoint you.

Now Morne gets injured

India might get 400 now

Morkel limping off now with 3 overs to go. Must be a nightmare, nothing this bad can happen in reality.

That is pretty much the worst case scenario for South Africa.
