606 Old and New
First topic message reminder :
Well the old 606 is about to close, and thankfully most of us moved over here to carry on with some decent debate, and of course a bit of banter and fun. I believe we've also got plenty more new contributors since this site opened and have only seen a couple of wum posts, so all in all a much better place to be.
There are still a few of the guy's on 606 who are packing their bags, but have still not opted to transfer over here, YET. I would imagine that most of them will, and people like Diggers for example have said they'll be looking in here from time to time etc, and of course Kwini is still playing hard ball.
So what are people's views so far? is this a better place to be or do you prefer the old place where there's no organisation, wums posting, mods who don't have a clue, and an a massive amount of posts all about the same subject, for example there are at least 10 posts about Seve which makes no sense.

Nowhere near as entertaining. This one is clearly far too conservative. Anymore right wing and i'd think it was baroness thatcher

I would rather play a chipper from just off the 18th green of the belfry than think any right wing thoughts made even the minutiae of sense.

Just that statement there says it all.
The real Mac - the one not abducted by aliens and experimented on, would never be 'touchy feely' like that. He would be much more likely to say 'to be honest LJ and OS, I couldn't give a flying f**k at the moon what you think!'
Remember, that was the guy who was nearly banned on here before more than a handful had moved over!
What do you think LJ, do you reckon he has converted to secret moderatorism?

Guys I know this is all intended as light hearted banter but just tread carefully. Both sides seem to be taking it in good heart at the moment so lets try to keep it tht way. I only wanted to butt in to say that no one has "nearly been banned" (yet)

Re: 606 Old and New
True no one was nearly banned, I actually was banned.
Oldshanker have no fear, should the mods get lippy again a ban will probably be on the cards for me.
Maybe the topics have not been controversial enough on here or have you all lost the will to battle my plans to set golf back 100 years?

It's really odd that he's so quiet. I always though Mac was the basis for Ade Edmonsons Eddie character.

In relation to another thread on older clubs I do wonder how 80's tour balata's would do as an alternate to really old balls.

Re: 606 Old and New
Oldshanker gave me a Balata ball that he had so that I could test it. Having never used one of these spongy feeling pieces of spin generating hell it was interesting that I found it a lot harder off the putter face than my bridgestone.
I imagine that the windings inside the thing must have made it a different thing off a full shot... But I think they could potentially cause damage to something as delicate as hickory shafts.
I think that if you want something to use a commando would be best. It's just rubber after all.

Mac we prefer the version with betablockers, as it can get deafening on here when you have none, and without even trying theres a certain gentleman from down sarf wearing lime green, that bites at every post of yours

the matter is now dropped, Mac.
All I ask is that you follow the golden rule in the future - treat others in a way you would want to be treated.
Actually for you the rule should be "treat people in a way that you would want a normal person to be treated and not the anarchist that has reared its head today"

I like her with that haircut. Your banned!

No response from Mac. Perhaps saying that Emma Watson now resembles a boy is grounds for being banned.

I seem to rember a photo of a rather unsightly golf bag, you were very proud of So I'm guessing you have a nice new shiny bag to match those fetching colours

Re: 606 Old and New
If you are referring to the monstrosity of a Dunlop bag then D4S owned up to that in the end.
My new bag is a nice Nike cart bag in very reserved colours.

I have the black and silver model.

Re: 606 Old and New
Surprisingly subdued it is.
I suspect that balata ball I gave you may well have a perished rubber windings issue LJ.
And Mac - there are glimpses of the old Mac emerging. Maybe the conditioning is wearing off.
Davie - the trick is to know the person you are ribbing will not be upset at your 'light hearted banter', which probably describes it quite well, gentle as it was.

Is this the post that makes you think someones hackles have been raised?
If so, you are being seriously naive, I believe that is Mac having a bit of fun. I have watched him give as good as he got from a much more serious ragging and on some occasions has managed with a great deal of flair to give back much better than he got!
Are we in danger of bordering on a nanny state here?
