Yup, my first effort included D4S, my re-post seems to have edited him out - sorry mate.
LJ posted a 606 thread once, "Who is kwini?'! Not sure he ever found out.
Still miss roderickslyme and johnfromlondonmbe (or whatever he called himself), plus kirky of course.

Re: what would you do if......
John from London Town was a professional snooker player from Ireland - he wrote a fascinating blog from one of the competitions he was in. Sounds like the nicest guy in the world.
London Johnny offered clues about his heritage but am loth to suggest them here.
MPB: That's the one! Amazing paths cross when you get on a board like this. Hsayston, venice and Shotrock all had ties to the part of Central New York that I lived in, Digs used to have a ski lodge, or similar, north of here, while D4S and Davie must have mutual friends of mine at the very least.
And then there's "turnip" who kindly sent me a t-shirt from a street festival on the street I grew up on.
goldwolf worked for a company I had extensive dealings with, and then there's puligny, once apparently of Macclesfield, who shares my love for some of the journalism of bygone eras.
Plus there's Yads, Yadsandew or something like that, Welsh, and always very interesting and perceptive. And BeTheBall from Wexford, equal nicest guy in the world.
rodders and I used to be therapists for an inveterate gambler, somewhere in Ireland, called 150 yards to the pin, probably had the 606 record for being banned. Used to slag off Robert Allenby something rotten.
But the Beeb used to disaffect some of the most knowledgeable posters, like chili, the anti-super_realist from Carnoustie. Very interesting feller.

Re: what would you do if......
I'd probably do nothing/let it go, though depending on the strength of the comment, I may feel uncomfortable. My personality tends towards anti-confrontational and I usually just accept things as being what they may be, even if I disagree with what is being said.
The same would extend to sports as well. I'd lean towards accepting that my opponent was cheating rather than confront them about it.

Oldshanker
Thank you for the response, although it is sad to read about the treatment of your friend.
This is not to say letting it go is the wrong response to the comments rather a hypothetical about how your friend would react if he felt more supported by the club as a whole. Do you think that with no risk of backlash he would like to see something done about having to deal with racism during his rounds?
Davie
As you know I tweeted you even when you were gone to ask if you wold come back, so I clearly hold nothing against you. But it would be nice to have the old davie back, and I don't suppose posting in your current mode is much fun. It is not like anyone on the golf board forced you out, and showing you can return to the ways of old might be the best way to get one over on those who did force you out?

I'd like to build the world a home
And furnish it with love
Grow apple trees and honey bees and snow-white turtle doves
I'd like to teach the world to sing
In perfect harmony
I'd like to hold it in my arms and keep it company
I'd like to see the world for once
All standing hand in hand
And hear them echo through the hills "Ah, peace throughout the land"
(That's the song I hear)
I'd like to teach the world to sing (that the world sings today)
In perfect harmony

I have on occasions seen him - if the perpetrator is an opponent - take note of the insult, take the big dog out, smash the ball 50 yards past their best shot, turn around and with a smile say 'not bad for a little brown boy wouldn't you say?'
He does get upset however if the P word is used, because of course he is Indian - I have been known to use that fact in my opponent management tactics and have even given him golf balls printed with the Pakistan flag on them. He loves those, they seem to go quite far!
I am not at all surprised at racism in golf when it is prevelent everywhere and I voted 'Let it go', because that is what Gerry would have voted.
Interesting bunch of people the Sikhs. Love a drink and a fight but also very religious. I've never been to one but a friend of mine, who happens to be from Pakistan descent , said Sikh weddings are crazy affairs with bottles of whisky on the table instead of wine.
It's a good point re why he didn't like the term person of Asian descent. Clearly there is huge animosity between India and Pakistan, if you were an Indian and randomly addressed as a Pakki you are not likely to be very impressed Id guess.

Re: what would you do if......
To join in the game, I went for 'Other'.
If it was a 'Williams' comment, depending on my mood that day, I'd in all likelihood make some sort of accidentally on purpose overly loud sarcastic comment about the standard of declining membership standards. Or something like that. I imagine the situation might develop from there.
If it was a 'Garcia', I might have problems as that requires me to have known the historical relevance of the 'fried chicken' remark.
If it was an 'Elkington', I'd probably think 'Perhaps not the best terminology there mate!' but don't think I'd be doing anything more except, as JAS mentioned, making a mental note about it.
If there was a/were member(s) who repeatedly made genuinely racist remarks in the clubhouse, I'd probably bring it to the Committee's attention.
Happy?

Hi Kwini,
noticed you mentioned me amongst many others I remember from 606.
I still read the posts on here but the unseemly aggression as seen in this current thread is not for me...
Still enjoy your 'letter from America' posts and also enjoy Golf Monthly Forum, still get a few WUM's but a pretty civilised forum.
Why is it so hard to debate rather than than argue and insult???
Other names you mention,Yads,Ladyputt,Londonjohnny ,are they on another forum, seem to recall, way back the great split after 606 closed The dark side mentioned a lot?
Anyway still enjoying some of the more moderate posters but I shan't post at all on this forum life is too short for mindless
arguement

Good to hear from you dewsweeper,
It is what it is, isn't it? Everyone wants something just slightly different, whatever the forum.
I enjoy most of the competitive golf discussions, usually very respectful, and try to be constructive elsewhere. Ignore most of the bickering though, what's the point.
Anyway, excellent to hear from you,
